Chapter 13 : Where is my dog

Shido, Tohka, and Hikaru were making their way back home. As Tohka was munching on her kinako bread, Shido and Hikaru were engaged in a heated discussion. "I am a serious boy!" Hikaru exclaimed. "How does hamburger consider unhealthy food when all of its ingredients are healthy? I mean, look, we got tomatoes, lettuce, beef, cheese, onion, eggs. I don't know if ketchup and mayonnaise are considered unhealthy, but still, how is all of that combined considered unhealthy?" she finished, glancing at Shido. "It doesn't work like that, Hikaru," Shido responded with a sigh. "Oh? And how does it work, Mr. I-am-right-you're-wrong?" Hikaru challenged. "Look, the problem is not in the ingredient itself, but the burgers as a whole," Shido explained patiently. "You see, burgers contain excessive amounts of cholesterol and saturated fat. Meat consists of fat naturally, which increases the cholesterol level. When you have burgers, the cholesterol level rises in the blood, thereby increasing the chances of heart disorders, and that's without even talking about the other ill effects." Hikaru didn't want to accept defeat. "Boy, I am a spirit, not a normal human. That science stuff is not going to work with me, and without talking about my abilities to heal illnesses." "She can heal illnesses, this is really valuable information," Kotori whispered into the communication device. "You may be right, but still, that's going to be a problem for your mental health," Shido added. "My mental health? What does this have to do with eating a simple hamburger?" Hikaru retorted. "It has, you see-" Shido suddenly stopped mid-sentence as he noticed a little girl standing in front of him. "It's just like Tobiichi – I mean, Nee-sama – told me," the little girl said. Shido turned to both Tohka and Hikaru. "Do you know her?" "No," they both said in unison. The little girl then approached Shido. "Nii," she called out. "Nii?" "Nii-sama!" the little girl finished as she jumped at Shido. "What?" all of them exclaimed in confusion. They made their way back home, but with a new addition to their group – Shido's long-lost biological sister, Mana Takamiya. "Oh, so here is where you live," Mana said. 'Wow... what an unexpected plot. I wonder if Shido's mother or someone close to him would suddenly appear later and want him back...' Hikaru thought. Mana then started to argue with Kotori about who is a closer sister to Shido. "Looks like he's got a cute little sister here too," Mana said. "Oh, so you do have some sense in you," Kotori replied. "Thought it's a given that you're no match for his real sister!" "Oh? You think so?" Kotori's tone changed. "Huh. Isn't that obvious? You could never get closer to him than a blood relative!" "You know what they say, 'Better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.'"Mana and Kotori's argument started to feel like it was going to end up in a fight. "Man, I am really happy that there's no one here to rival me for my sister," Hikaru said as she hugged Tohka. The argument ended as Shido intervened and asked Mana where she lived. She answered by Avoiding the question and then leaving. .... Hikaru was sitting at the dinner table with a big smirk on her face while she ate her hamburger. Kotori, who was sitting across from her, looked confused and asked, "I don't understand why you're so proud right now." "Of course, I am. I won the argument, after all," Hikaru answered as she took a bite of her hamburger. Shido was about to explain how he had planned to cook hamburgers from the start, but he didn't want to erase the smile on Hikaru's face. "Yeah, yeah, you win," he said smiling. The dinner continued as normal as ever until something happened and everything changed. "So Kotori-san, how is my dog doing?" she asked while munching on her food. "Dog?" Kotori raised an eyebrow. "Yes, my dog. It's been two days since the last time I saw him. I didn't find him in my room, so I think you took him to the ship, right?" Hikaru continued eating. Kotori exchanged a glance with Shido and then glanced back at Hikaru, confused. "Hikaru, what dog are you talking about?" Kotori asked. Hikaru's face froze as she was about to take another bite from her hamburger. "Stop joking around, Kotori. I asked Shido to inform you to take care of my dog two days ago because I went to Libary," Hikaru started to raise her voice. "Hikaru, I am not joking. I don't remember you having a dog before, let alone taking care of it," Kotori said, looking at Shido. "Bro, do you know what she's talking about?" "No, I don't know. She didn't have a dog in our first meeting in the first place," Shido answered, confused. Hikaru lost it. She stood up from the table. "Stop playing around! If something bad happened to my dog, just tell me, and don't make some bullshit excuse," she shouted in anger. Yochino ran away from the sudden change of events, while Tohka was just as confused as Shido was. Kotori realized the situation was starting to get out of control. "Look, Hikaru. We don't know anything about that dog you're talking about. Just calm down, and we'll figure this out, okay?" she said, trying to calm Hikaru down. "Calm down?! Guys, I am sure you have seen my dog before. Hell, you guys used it as an excuse to make Shido get closer to me, and you tell me now you don't know what I am talking about," she turned her back to them. "I am gonna go and search for my dog alone. If I find out that you guys have anything to do with the missing of my dog, I will... tch," she finished as she slammed the door behind her. "What just happened?" Shido said in confusion. "I don't know, bro. For now, go after Yochino to check on her. I am going to figure out what's with Hikaru...... again," Kotori finished as a blue light appeared and teleported her. Shido was about to leave to check on Yochino but got stopped by Tohka's hand. "Tohka?" "Shido, Hikaru doesn't seem to be lying. Her face is telling everything... please help her," Tohka said, lowering her face. Shido just glanced at her and smiled. "I know, Tohka. Just leave it to me." .... Hikaru soared through the city, her emotions running high. Confusion, anger, and self-blame flooded her mind as she tried to come to terms with the current situation. "I started to lose control of my emotions lately," she muttered to herself. "I should've calmed down and taken their help after all... FUCK!" Her frustration boiled over as she let out a scream. "I was the one to blame. I am not even able to take care of myself, let alone a pet... why am I like that... why am I pathetic like that?" Taking a deep breath, Hikaru tried to calm herself down. "Okay, let's calm down. Anger is not going to solve anything. First, let's review our situation." She paused, collecting her thoughts. "First, my dog is missing. Kotori denied knowing anything about the dog and even lied about me having one. The same thing goes for Shido. That means they're trying to hide something that happened to my dog. But why use this stupid trick? They were probably afraid of me getting angry, but this lie is making the situation worse." Hikaru's eyes narrowed as she spotted a giant invisible ship flying in the sky. She was invisible, and her mana was stocked inside of her, so they couldn't detect her. "Hiding from me is useless... now let's see if he is not there," she said, her eyes glowing with a yellow light that allowed her to see through everything she wanted. "Nothing there," she said, disappointed, as she lowered her head to the city below her. She started to scan the whole city using the light. "Where are you? Please tell me you're okay." Hikaru suddenly stopped scanning. "NO! Why?" Her eyes detected something. "Why there?" It was a place that was familiar to her. She started to fly down. "Why did you go back?" she said as she landed in a dark alleyway. She walked slowly towards the dog. "I thought I saved you?" she said as she fell to her knees beside the dog. The dog was dead. His corpse was already decaying and moldy. The stench of death was already strong from the corpse. Hikaru moved her hand slowly toward her dog's corpse, and a shiny light could be seen. "He died four days ago? The day I saved him... the cause is... beating till death," she said. "... and I kicked him so hard that he started to cry hahahahahaha. Do you believe that?" Suddenly, a man's voice could be heard from a distance, with a mix of laughing voices. Hikaru raised her face to see where the voice was coming from, her eyes widening as she realized who it was. "Oh, what are you doing here, crying little lady?" one of them said, his tone dripping with sarcasm as they approached her. "Shit, dude, it's the dog that we killed by mistake 4 days ago," another added, his words laced with a sense of amusement. "Oh, it was her dog...man, what a tragic end," the first one finished, his laughter echoing through the alley. The darkness of the alley seemed to deepen, the shadows growing longer and more menacing with every passing moment. One of the gang members shivered, hugging himself to keep warm. "Boss, is it me or has the place suddenly become colder?" "Oh, now that you said it, this place is cold. I should've bri-" "You don't remember me?" Hikaru interrupted "Hmm, you? I don't think so, but we can get to know each other n-"Before the guy could finish his sentence. "WHAT THE FUCK!" all of them shouted simultaneously. "His jaw!! She took his jaw!" one of them yelled in horror. Hikaru had grabbed the man's mouth from the inside and removed his jaw from its place. It happened so fast that the man who lost his jaw didn't realize it yet. He tried to speak, but no words came out. She remained calm as she approached the rest of the gang members. They tried to run, but just fell to the ground, paralyzed with fear. "I don't understand why this is happening, does this world want the good to die while the evil to lives" Hikaru's voice was cold and emotionless as she advanced towards them. " if so then fuck this world, i am the one who decides who lives and who's not" Just as Hikaru was about to begin her work, she froze as a familiar voice called out from behind her. "ARA~ I think that would be useless Hikaru-san, they are going to come back after all," the voice said. Hikaru didn't turn around, her eyes fixed on the gang members. "What do you want?" Hikaru asked, her tone cold and emotionless. "I am here to give you what you need, Hikaru-san," the newcomer said. As Hikaru finished her work, she turned to face the newcomer, her hands dripping with blood. "Don't play with your life, little girl," Hikaru warned her. "ARA~ Don't worry, Hikaru-san. No one values their life more than me," the newcomer replied, her smile widening. "There's a close garden from here. What about going there and having a little chat?" she suggested. Hikaru glanced at her for a second, then looked down at her dog's corpse. She made a light surround its corpse before carrying it. "Lead the way," Hikaru said finally, her voice cold and emotionless. "as you wished"
