Chapter 121: What Kind of Website is Aili Island?

Chapter 121: What Kind of Website is Aili Island?

Watching President Pei wolfing down his food, Lu Mingliang looked a bit puzzled.

“That's strange. President Pei seems pretty happy today? He’s like a totally different person compared to the last team dinner.”

Something felt off.

According to Bao Xu, President Pei was supposed to be a very lonely person.

So why was he acting like this?

Bao Xu quietly shook his head. “You’ve got it wrong.”

“Hm? Brother Bao, what do you mean?” Lu Mingliang asked, confused.

Bao Xu let out a soft sigh. “Right now, the one person who can’t afford to look downcast… is President Pei himself.”

“Think about it. Game Producer had a cold reception after release—both its reviews and sales fell short of expectations. Everyone’s morale is already low.”

“If President Pei, as our spiritual pillar, also shows signs of worry or despair, how can today’s team-building dinner have any meaning?”

Lu Mingliang suddenly understood.

“So that’s it!”

“President Pei is trying to lift our spirits with his optimism!”

“Exactly.” Bao Xu continued, “A true leader must have a kind of natural charisma—an inner strength.”

“In times of difficulty, he must be the most optimistic one;”

“In times of success, he must be the most cautious one;”

“He not only worries before others do and rejoices after others do, but he also stays hopeful in adversity to inspire everyone.”

“That’s the kind of person President Pei is. He’s a realist who sees through everything with precise judgment and calculation. But at the same time, he’s also an idealist—willing to do things regardless of his own personal gain.”

“So we can’t let President Pei down. We must cheer up and stay optimistic. I believe Tengda will make it through this storm. Everything will turn out okay!”

“What’s more, I have a hunch that someone as confident as President Pei definitely has a backup plan.”

“He hasn’t given up yet—so talking about failure now is way too early!”

Lu Mingliang’s eyes started to shine with determination. “You’re right. If President Pei hasn’t given up, how can we say the game’s already flopped?”

“There’ll be a comeback for sure. We have to believe in President Pei!”

Meanwhile, on the other side of the room, Huang Sibao, Zhu Xiaoce, and the rest of the Feihuang Studio staff were also feasting heartily.

Huang Sibao looked a bit conflicted.

“Is now a good time to tell President Pei about this?”

Zhu Xiaoce thought for a moment, then said seriously, “I think now is the perfect time. Game Producer had a disappointing launch. Even though President Pei isn’t showing it on the outside, deep down he’s probably feeling a little let down.”

“Some good news could lift morale. It’ll give President Pei a bit of confidence—knowing that even if the game flops, there’s still hope for us to turn things around.”

“It might be too early to talk about a turnaround,” Huang Sibao shook his head. “After all, we’re just talking about a new website. It’s a modest bit of good news at best. Let’s not exaggerate.”

Zhu Xiaoce thought it over and agreed. He nodded. “Alright, let’s just report it truthfully.”

The two of them picked up their glasses and walked over to Pei Qian.

“President Pei, here’s to you!”

Pei Qian was in a great mood. He clinked glasses with the two of them and drank it all in one go.

After finishing the drink, Huang Sibao hesitated for a moment before saying, “President Pei, I have some good news.”

Hm?

Good news???

Pei Qian was instantly on alert.

On such a great day, don’t you dare ruin it for me with “good news”!

Pei Qian tried his best to stay calm.

“Mm, go ahead.”

Huang Sibao began explaining:

“President Pei, here’s the deal. A new video platform wants to sign an exclusive streaming agreement with us. From now on, President Pei’s Daily Life will only be available on their site.”

“This platform is still relatively new, but it’s been growing quite well recently. They’ve also launched a new incentive program, where creators get paid based on views.”

“With this exclusive deal, as premium creators, we’ll be eligible for some pretty decent payouts through that program.”

“To put it simply, we’re bringing them traffic with the President Pei’s Daily Life series, and they’ll share revenue with us based on the viewership!”

“And just as you’ve always emphasized—protecting our brand, valuing reputation, building IP—this deal doesn’t involve cash-grab content at all.”

There was a hint of barely contained excitement in Huang Sibao’s tone.

After putting in so much effort out of pure passion, they were finally seeing some returns. Who wouldn’t be excited?

Sure, the earnings might not be huge, but it wouldn’t hurt the series’ reputation either. This wasn’t some low-tier sponsorship—it actually aligned very well with President Pei’s vision of high-end content production. Maybe even exceeded it!

Pei Qian stayed silent for a few seconds.

Something about this didn’t feel quite right.

“A new platform, huh? This site… does it start with an A? Or a B?”

If it was Bilibili or something like that, then we’ve got a serious problem!

But Huang Sibao looked confused.

“No, neither, President Pei. It’s a smaller site. It’s called Aili Island—some people just call it I-site.”

Pei Qian was completely baffled.

I-site? Aili Island?

Never heard of it...

Well, at least it’s not A-site or B-site.

Pei Qian let out a sigh of relief.

He was well aware that in the coming years, Tudou (which in this world was known as Fanshu) would begin an irreversible decline.

Meanwhile, Bilibili—thanks to its bullet comments, ad-free experience, and strong original content—along with a wave of new live-streaming platforms, would steal a huge chunk of viewers away from traditional video sites.

But Aili Island?

What even is that?

Just from the name alone, it sounds like a flop waiting to happen.

Probably just some disposable, soon-to-be-forgotten startup.

If this platform is doomed anyway...

Then sign the deal now!

Wait too long and we might miss the chance to lock this in!

Even better, they’re not offering a flat fee, but instead paying based on viewership—so there’s even less to worry about.

It’s a small site with limited traffic, and President Pei’s Daily Life is about to lose a chunk of core viewers from the move. With such limited reach, how much money could they possibly make?

It won’t be profitable, it’ll reduce exposure, and it’ll block any chance of going viral on bigger platforms—this is a win on multiple fronts!

Pei Qian nodded right away.

“Good. Nicely done!”

It was just a mild, throwaway compliment—but Huang Sibao still lit up with joy.

President Pei rarely praised people.

Getting a compliment from him felt better than winning a 30,000 yuan bonus.

Huang Sibao eagerly nodded.

“Don’t worry, President Pei—we’ll work even harder!”

Pei Qian went back to eating and drinking.

This was turning out to be a double blessing!

But just as he was enjoying himself…

A sudden burst of cheering exploded nearby!

“Holy crap!”

“No way—this is insane!”

“Hahaha! We got an official shoutout and a front-page feature—we’re gonna blow up!”

The piece of bluefin tuna Pei Qian had just picked up almost slipped from his chopsticks.

What the hell!?

Pei Qian was instantly on edge!

Even though he had been trying to lift everyone’s spirits earlier, he could still tell most people were feeling pretty down.

But this cheering—It felt... wrong.

And from the bits and pieces he could overhear, he sensed a deeply ominous undertone.

It made his heart start to race.

Could it be...

Something bad just happened!?
