Chapter 131: The Exclusive Interview!
Chapter 131: The Exclusive Interview!
April 20th.
After work, Ma Yiqun quietly slipped into a small café near the company to meet with Hu Yue for the interview.
Hu Yue pulled out a well-prepared notebook.
They had already agreed—no video or audio recordings would be made, and Ma Yiqun's real name wouldn't be disclosed.
Although this would somewhat undermine the credibility of the article, Hu Yue was still deeply satisfied to get even a glimpse beneath the surface of Tengda, the rapidly rising game company, through an interview with one of its employees.
To her surprise, Hu Yue found herself a little nervous.
She took a moment to calm down, reviewing the key questions she had finalized only after much deliberation late into the previous night.
They had already reached a consensus on two points:
First, no revealing the identity of the company's boss.
Second, no asking about specific salaries or benefits.
So all of Hu Yue’s prepared questions carefully avoided those topics.
“Please don’t be nervous,” she said. “I’m a professional journalist—you can trust my integrity.”
“One of the essential qualities of a good reporter is to guide the conversation smoothly and naturally, without the interviewee even noticing a shift in the rhythm. All I ask is that you follow along with me.”
Hu Yue spoke with confidence.
Ma Yiqun nodded.
“Alright, let’s begin.”
“First, may I ask—how long have you been with Tengda, and what kind of work do you do?”
“Don’t worry, your specific job title won’t be included in the article. I just need to know the general scope of your responsibilities so I can frame more relevant follow-up questions.”
She held her pen ready above the notebook.
Ma Yiqun thought for a moment and answered honestly, “I’ve been at Tengda for about a month. My main job is... studying.”
Hu Yue scribbled the answer quickly, then paused.
Wait, studying?
“Could you elaborate?”
Ma Yiqun nodded. “Tengda is very different from other game companies. Here, all the work is of such a high standard that new hires aren’t allowed to work or do overtime. All we’re permitted to do is study—and the learning period lasts a long time.”
“I feel a lot of pressure every day. I have to study President Pei’s advanced design philosophy and learn from my seniors how to interpret his vision. Honestly, my progress has been quite slow.”
“Even now, I’ve only grasped a tiny fraction of President Pei’s thinking. I still have to consult more experienced colleagues just to begin to understand him.”
Hu Yue was mildly shocked and quickly jotted it all down.
An employee who had worked at other companies for six months comes here—and can only study?
It really underscored how insanely high the standards must be at Tengda!
Still, hiring employees, paying them monthly wages, and asking them to only study for a month—that took a kind of boldness most bosses didn’t have.
And this was only the beginning—there was so much juicy content already!
‘Stay calm, I’m a professional journalist!’
Hu Yue reined in her excitement and moved on to the next question.
“Let’s talk about the recent hit game Game Producer. It adopted a ‘performance art-style’ promotional strategy. Was that something your company planned from the start?”
Ma Yiqun shook his head. “No, in fact, all of us were kept in the dark.”
“Right up until the team dinner, we were convinced the game was going to flop.”
“It was President Pei who had already decided on this performance art-style promotional strategy from the very beginning. He kept it a secret from everyone in the company, then launched a sudden counterattack when the game’s release hit rock bottom—completely turning the situation around!”
“Honestly, we were of no help at all.”
Hu Yue’s eyes lit up.
This really was a treasure of a company—and a treasure of a boss!
“Could you tell me more about your President Pei?” Hu Yue asked, scribbling furiously in her notebook.
Ma Yiqun’s expression turned reverent.
“President Pei is a genius designer. Sometimes, he just gives a few simple directions, and if we follow them, we end up making a high-quality game—like Ocean Fortress.”
“Other times, President Pei gets hands-on, obsessing over every detail and personally polishing the game to perfection—like Game Producer.”
“And he has a unique charisma. Countless talented individuals are naturally drawn to him and want to work with him.”
“Top-tier artist Ruan Guangjian, and the renowned video creator ‘Teacher Qiao’—they’re both close friends of President Pei. Their friendship is completely free of personal gain!”
“President Pei is a solitary genius. His ideas are far ahead of their time, which often leads to misunderstandings. But President Pei doesn’t mind. He just keeps surpassing himself, again and again.”
Hu Yue wrote rapidly.
While Ma Yiqun’s words were full of glowing praise—almost like empty flattery—Hu Yue knew better.
This was an anonymous interview.
They had agreed at the start that Hu Yue wouldn’t disclose Ma Yiqun’s identity or position in her article.
So even if President Pei saw this praise, he’d never know Ma Yiqun was the one who said it.
There was no motive to suck up, meaning this must truly be what Ma Yiqun believed from the bottom of his heart.
Hu Yue couldn’t help but be moved.
A relationship this harmonious between employees and their boss—she had never seen anything like it.
“If you were to rate President Pei as a boss out of 100,” she asked, “how many points would you give him?”
Ma Yiqun answered without hesitation: “200 points!”
“There might be bosses out there who score 90 out of 100—maybe they offer overtime pay, great benefits, and so on.”
“But President Pei deserves 200!”
“He’s incredibly generous to every employee. He cares deeply about our health and never hesitates to spend money on us.”
“But according to the senior employees, President Pei is extremely strict with himself, even to the point of being frugal!”
“All I can say is, before joining Tengda, if someone told me a boss like President Pei existed, I wouldn’t have believed it.”
“And even now, if someone told me there was a second boss like him in the world, I still wouldn’t believe it!”
Hu Yue scribbled at lightning speed. Just listening to all this, she could hardly contain her excitement.
She felt like she was getting swept up in Ma Yiqun’s passion.
From his words, she could clearly sense how much the employees at Tengda admired and appreciated President Pei. She could vaguely picture that awe-inspiring, radiant figure they all looked up to.
Looking at the dense notes in her notebook, Hu Yue felt she had struck gold with this interview.
This article would be explosive once published!
“Alright, for our final question, let’s talk a bit more about President Pei.”
“Game Producer has deeply resonated with a lot of people. Do you think that’s because the game reflects President Pei’s personal experiences?”
“Maybe as a game producer, President Pei once suffered the same setbacks and hardships—so he was able to create such a rich and meaningful work?”
