Chapter 144: Bargaining

Chapter 144: Bargaining

Du Ruijie sat across from him and saw Pei Qian playing the game while showing an expression that screamed “my eyes are bleeding.” His heart skipped a beat—this wasn’t good.

Even Du Ruijie himself didn’t play his company’s games, because he knew all too well what kind of crap they were.

Letting President Pei play such garbage… honestly, it felt a bit cruel.

If President Pei didn’t like these two games, he might use that as leverage to lower the price.

Du Ruijie mentally braced himself.

Pei Qian closed the laptop and handed it back to Wang Xiaobin. “Not bad.”

Not bad?

Du Ruijie’s expression turned solemn with admiration. President Pei is really giving face here. Even trash like this gets a “not bad” from him? That’s too generous!

In truth, Pei Qian genuinely did think these two games were “not bad.”

So bad, in fact, that he admitted to himself he couldn’t even make something this terrible.

In any case, any game that couldn’t make money was a good game in his eyes!

Wang Xiaobin subconsciously asked, “President Pei, do you have any questions about these two games? I can answer them.”

Du Ruijie nearly stomped on Wang Xiaobin’s foot in frustration.

What are you talking about?!

Why aren’t you trying to move on already?!

You’re just asking President Pei to start pointing out flaws!

Pei Qian chuckled. “The design’s very straightforward. Nothing to ask.”

Truthfully, he really did want to ask, How did you manage to make something this garbage…?

But after thinking it over, he realized he probably shouldn’t say that out loud.

Wang Xiaobin took the laptop back and nodded. “True, President Pei is a professional. One look and he gets it—I was overthinking.”

Du Ruijie finally let out a long sigh of relief.

Just muddle through and seal the deal. Take the money and run.

Once the deal was done, the whole mess—those worn-out office desks and chairs, the aging computers, and all those useless employees—would all be dumped on Tengda’s lap. Let President Pei worry about it.

Pei Qian turned slightly and gave Xin Hailu a subtle signal—it was time to start bargaining.

To be honest, Pei Qian didn’t really mind spending an extra three or four hundred thousand, but he suddenly felt it’d be a bit of a waste.

Even if it was system money, giving such a good deal to this Du Ruijie guy just didn’t sit right.

He’d rather use that money to give his own employees a bonus.

So, if they were going to haggle, then they’d haggle properly—drive the price down to Du Ruijie’s absolute bottom line.

Assistant Xin flipped through her little notebook. “Mr. Du, from what I understand, you’re currently behind on paying your staff by at least a month. One of the two games is about to be shut down, and the other’s revenue has plummeted. As it stands, these games can’t really be considered quality assets anymore. The IPs themselves are essentially worthless. The desks and office computers were purchased two or three years ago, and they weren’t expensive even back then. Now, after depreciation, their best destination might be the junkyard. You know very well that with Tengda’s office standards, we wouldn’t be using this stuff at all—”

She spoke quickly and smoothly, and Du Ruijie’s face turned increasingly pale.

It’s over. All the effort I spent sweet-talking earlier… totally wasted.

He had originally thought that Pei Qian, being so young, might lack experience and could be coaxed into paying more. But clearly, he’d picked the wrong target.

President Pei didn’t even handle the acquisition himself—it was all left to this assistant behind him.

And judging from her demeanor, she was clearly very experienced. In every way, she had Du Ruijie completely outclassed.

Forget everything else—even just their aura was worlds apart.

No matter what, Du Ruijie was just a private business owner. Compared to someone like Assistant Xin, a professional from a major corporation, he simply didn’t stand a chance. Before long, she had him tongue-tied.

With a crisp snap, Assistant Xin closed her notebook. “All things considered, our final offer is 550,000.”

Du Ruijie swallowed hard. The offered price was barely acceptable to him—he felt a bit reluctant, but he could live with it.

Pei Qian smiled. “No worries, Mr. Du. I’ll add another 50,000. Let’s call it 600,000 as a friendly price.”

Du Ruijie hesitated for a moment.

He had been hoping to squeeze out a bit more, but after a second thought, he let it go.

Assistant Xin had done her calculations far too thoroughly—he had no solid ground left to argue on.

And if he said the wrong thing, upset President Pei, and the man just walked away from the deal… that would be a total disaster.

Thinking of this, Du Ruijie switched to a smile. “Alright then, President Pei, 600,000 it is! I’m just doing this to give my people a better future…”

Pei Qian couldn’t help but feel speechless. This guy really is used to spouting nonsense. Full of empty words—none of it believable.

“Well then, let’s move on to the paperwork,” Pei Qian said, looking over at Assistant Xin.

Even though they’d reached a verbal agreement, there was still a lot of work to do—thorough due diligence on the company, signing the acquisition contract, and more. This wasn’t like buying something from a store, swiping a card and walking out with it—it’d take time.

Thankfully, Pei Qian didn’t have to worry about any of that himself.

“President Pei is generous! Truly a man destined for great things!” Du Ruijie was overjoyed. Though the final price was lower than he’d hoped for, that last 50,000 bump made the pill a lot easier to swallow.

The most important thing was—he finally got rid of the mess he’d been agonizing over for days. That alone was worth celebrating.

“As for the employees outside,” Du Ruijie said, “let them clock out and take a short break. Once the handover process is complete, we’ll notify them to return.”

“Let’s say… next Monday, May 10th.”

Pei Qian glanced at the date. It was Wednesday today, so they had four days—plenty of time to wrap up most of the process.

After all, this wasn’t some billion-dollar acquisition. Shangyang Games was a small company with only a handful of assets. With Assistant Xin’s professionalism, the timeframe was more than manageable.

Letting the employees take some time off was also a good way to help them adjust to Tengda’s pace and style ahead of time.

From this point on, Shangyang Games would become a subsidiary of Tengda. Their systems, policies, and benefits would all need to align with the parent company.

Wang Xiaobin was momentarily stunned, but quickly nodded. “Understood, President Pei! I’ll go inform everyone right away!”

Pei Qian didn’t leave. He stayed in the office, listening to Assistant Xin and Mr. Du go over the details.

A moment later, murmurs of conversation began to ripple from outside, like a stagnant pond suddenly coming to life.

When Wang Xiaobin announced the time off until next Monday—and that the company was about to change ownership—it instantly stirred up quite the commotion.

Shangyang Games had been on the brink of collapse, and many employees had already started job hunting on their own.

Employees like Old Liu, who had strong résumés, had already landed new positions.

But just yesterday, Du Ruijie suddenly made an announcement: another company was interested in taking over. He asked everyone to spend the whole afternoon cleaning up and tidying their desks, to present the best possible image for the potential new owner.

This caught everyone off guard. Everyone at Shangyang knew what kind of condition the company was in—who in their right mind would want to take over this sinking ship?

But once word got out that it was Tengda Games, everyone was stunned.

This kind of good fortune… It was like winning the lottery out of nowhere!

After all, Tengda Games has been making waves lately. Tons of people were eager to join, but had no way in.

Even if being acquired meant they’d be treated like a “stepchild,” rather than a true core team, it was still a chance to work under Tengda. That alone was a huge step up compared to their current situation.

Most people had assumed negotiations would take at least a week or two—no one expected to get time off, so they’d just been showing up to work and quietly slacking off in the meantime.

But now? Not only had the deal already reached a preliminary agreement, they were getting time off until next Monday?

Right now, the employees of Shangyang Games only had one feeling:

The highs and lows of life… are just way too intense.

Just days ago, they were worrying about unemployment.

Now, in the blink of an eye, they’d become Tengda employees—and they even got a four-day vacation!

It almost felt like a dream.
