Chapter 309: This Is the Ultimate Humanistic Care

Chapter 309: This Is the Ultimate Humanistic Care

Shangyang Games.

After the mobile version of Blood War Anthem: Enhanced Edition exploded in popularity, Shangyang Games had undergone a complete transformation.

The biggest change was the working environment.

Previously, Shangyang Games was just like most startup game companies—its work environment was far from refined. Workstations were extremely cramped, desks and chairs were cheap, and even the company’s cleanliness relied entirely on employees' self-discipline. Hiring a cleaning lady was simply something they couldn't bear to spend money on.

But now, the office environment has changed drastically!

The original office location had been subleased, and the entire Shangyang Games team had moved into a nearby high-end office building.

Office desks, chairs, and computers were all purchased in bulk, matching the standards of their parent company, Tengda.

Workstations were spacious, computer specs were high, and the office now featured a beverage bar, snack area, fitness equipment, and even a game room.

Lin Wan was extremely proud of this.

All of this was bought with Shangyang Games’ own money!

The mobile version of Blood War Anthem: Enhanced Edition launched on September 20th, and after more than a month of operation, it had already brought in nearly five to six million yuan in net revenue for Shangyang Games.

Although the game had very few monetization points, the sheer number of players and their strong sustained spending made up for it.

Additionally, the Shenhua Mobile App Store gave Shangyang Games extremely favorable terms—a 90/10 revenue split.

So even after deducting taxes, daily operating costs, employee salaries, cloud server rentals, and other expenses, Shangyang Games was still able to net one to two million yuan every week.

Lin Wan originally wanted to hand all this money over to Tengda so Shangyang Games could proudly shine within the Tengda Group, but President Pei rejected the idea on the spot.

“Shangyang Games is at a stage where it needs to spend money. How come none of you have any long-term vision?”

“Is your office environment properly upgraded yet?”

“Have your employee benefits reached Tengda’s standard?”

“Everyone has been working hard for so long—shouldn’t you reward them with bonuses?”

“Spend money on everything Shangyang Games needs first. Only after that should you even consider submitting profits!”

Those were President Pei’s exact words.

Lin Wan had no choice but to drop the idea. For the entire month, she focused all her energy on figuring out how to improve Shangyang Games’ office environment.

Pei Qian had worried at first—he was afraid Lin Wan would be reluctant to spend money. But after discreetly asking around some time later, he realized he had worried unnecessarily.

Worrying that other people might be too frugal was understandable.

But worrying that Lin Wan would be reluctant to spend money?

He must have lost his mind to think that!

Lin Wan truly followed Tengda’s standards to the letter—without cutting a single corner!

Pei Qian watched all this unfold, feeling extremely pleased.

As expected, a rich second-generation heir really was different!

Pei Qian understood well that Lin Wan was currently in a very inflated, energetic phase. She had just created a game that could reliably bring in over five million yuan a month, essentially producing a new cash cow for Tengda.

If it were someone else, they might still be frugal and stash the money away.

But Lin Wan was clearly not that kind of person. She went all out, maxing out employee benefits for Shangyang Games in every area.

After all, even if she spent the money, she could earn it back anyway!

That was Lin Wan’s mindset.

Thus, Shangyang Games’ benefits and treatment in all aspects had already been raised to match Tengda’s.

Shangyang Games employees were finally enjoying the same “favored child” treatment as Tengda employees.

At this moment, Hao Qiong was slumped lazily in a comfortable ergonomic chair, aimlessly browsing the web and slacking off.

He truly had nothing to do!

As an employee who had only recently joined Shangyang Games, Hao Qiong had caught every streak of good fortune—joining the company just in time to participate in the development of the mobile version of Blood War Anthem: Enhanced Edition, then watching the game become a massive hit, getting treated to a company dinner by President Pei, and now enjoying a fully upgraded office environment.

A few months ago, he had still been desperately searching for a job, stressed to the point of collapse. But now, he spends his days looking up online articles about health preservation and wellness.

It’s to the point that he felt guilty every single day.

He often thought about the time he had seen President Pei while dining at the Nameless Restaurant. Back then, he had eaten a bowl of strangely flavored crab roe mixed with black rice—later learning that the “black rice” was actually caviar.

As the saying goes: "Those who are fed are short-mouthed."

Every time he slacked off, Hao Qiong felt like he was letting President Pei down. But if he decided to be serious and try to work for a bit… he simply had nothing to work on.

It was very awkward.

According to Director Lin, Shangyang Games’ next development project would only be finalized after President Pei issued instructions, and the earliest that could happen was mid-November.

The thought of having to slack off for another ten days to half a month made Hao Qiong uncomfortable all over.

He opened the TPDb website again, checking the rating for Blood War Anthem: Enhanced Edition.

From the initial overall rating of 72, then to 84, and now 89—the score had been climbing steadily.

At this rate, breaking 90 next month was practically guaranteed.

A high rating meant a high bonus. The thought of an even larger bonus next month only increased Hao Qiong’s sense of guilt.

He really hadn’t done anything… yet he kept getting paid.

Although that sounded great on paper, he… feared he might turn useless, so he desperately wanted to do some work to prove his worth.

He absentmindedly opened the internal forum.

“After reading two more posts, I’ll start working.” Hao Qiong made up his mind.

“Hm? What’s this pinned post?”

“A public letter from President Pei to all internal employees??”

His heart instantly sank with a heavy thump. A surge of guilt washed over him.

Just imagining what such a letter might contain was enough!

Letters posted on a company intranet were almost always meant to unify employee mindset and encourage hard work.

To say it plainly, it was usually a big bowl of motivational chicken soup from upper management.

In most companies, employees wouldn’t even bother opening it, because what’s the point?

Already exhausted like dogs—who has the mood to drink chicken soup without choking on it?

But seeing a letter from President Pei, Hao Qiong had to click on it.

Because he felt he truly needed some motivational chicken soup. Living like this every day, doing nothing, feeling guilty—it was too much!

He could even imagine President Pei criticizing employees who enjoyed benefits while loafing around, reiterating the need for a hard-working spirit and wolf-like competitiveness, giving a stern wake-up call to those indulging in comfort.

That was exactly the kind of push Hao Qiong felt he needed.

With these expectations, he opened the pinned post and carefully read through it.

After finishing, Hao Qiong frowned deeply, sinking into profound confusion.

Why did this public letter… not match his expectations at all?

Didn’t everything sound… reversed?

He read through the entire letter again, “reviewing” some of the “golden lines” inside.

“When the alarm rang, I turned it off and continued sleeping. Work is work—finishing it after a good rest was the same”?

Personal effort has little to do with a company’s development?

Those who work themselves to the bone are increasing, while those who understand rest are decreasing?

Working overtime means you don’t trust your colleagues’ abilities or Tengda’s company values?

Starting today, refuse overtime???

Hao Qiong carefully and meticulously read the entire open letter again, and the only message he could extract from between the lines was eight characters: “Overtime is a sin; slacking off is justified.”

The whole situation was so darkly humorous that for a moment, Hao Qiong wondered if he was still dreaming.

A moment ago he felt a tiny bit guilty, but now his guilt had been completely replaced by confusion and disbelief.

The boss is ordering me to slack off… what…

Hao Qiong was utterly lost. He checked the date—today wasn’t April Fool’s Day, right?

Still puzzled, he refreshed the page, and immediately seven or eight new replies popped up.

Clearly, he wasn’t the only idle employee browsing the internal forum. Everyone had seen the pinned post and rushed to comment—some just to grab the first reply.

“Front row! I caught President Pei!”

“President Pei is mighty!”

“What is this open letter? Is he testing the posting feature, or trying to create some dramatic effect?”

Evidently, many others were just as confused as he was.

Who gives employees poisoned chicken soup?

Reverse-inspirational speech?

While everyone was struggling to make sense of the situation, the replies under the pinned post continued to grow.

“Got it, President Pei! We’ll be sure to rest well and take care of our health!”

“So heartwarming. Even though it’s written in a humorous, joking tone, you can still feel President Pei’s care for us between the lines!”

“Reading this pinned post sent me into deep thought. While other companies are busy promoting ‘wolf culture’ and ‘fight-to-the-death spirit,’ squeezing employees dry in every way, President Pei goes the opposite direction—fiercely exposing and satirizing that behavior!”

“I’m a little moved. This is the Tengda spirit we’ve always been proud of!”

“Every line of President Pei’s advice is honest and hits right at the heart! So many bosses only look at things from the company’s perspective, from the standpoint of their own profits. All they think about is, ‘If my employees work hard, I can buy a new car at the end of the year!’ They hype up the idea of hustling for the employees’ sake, but in reality, it’s only for themselves!”

“But President Pei is completely different. He speaks purely from the employees’ perspective—caring about our health, family lives, and long-term development. With a leader like this, what more could we ask for?”

“Please rest assured, President Pei! Even without overtime and without overworking ourselves, we will still complete our tasks thoroughly and help the company grow even better!”

“Yes, President Pei has created such excellent working conditions for us and carries the entire burden of the company’s development on his own shoulders. We can’t betray President Pei’s expectations! We must make sure to stay healthy—only with good health can we work better for the company and achieve greater results to repay President Pei!”

One comment after another was rapidly upvoted and floated to the top.

The previously confused Hao Qiong finally understood.

So this internal letter wasn’t meant to fire people up—it was actually the ultimate form of humanistic care!

Whether or not to work overtime was clearly not the real theme of this letter.

On the surface, President Pei was telling everyone to stop striving so hard—but that was obviously an exaggerated way of expressing it.

Anyone with even a bit of ambition knows that hard work benefits their future development.

What President Pei really meant was that while striving and improving themselves, employees should also remember to take care of their health. Only by maintaining good physical condition, having a happy family, and being able to fully enjoy their hobbies could they perform better at work and contribute even more to Tengda’s growth!

From this alone, it was clear that President Pei’s vision was worlds apart from those petty bosses who only care about squeezing out tiny savings from small corners of the company and cutting employee wages.

Thinking of this, Hao Qiong was instantly filled with motivation.

He replied under the post: “Please rest assured, President Pei. We will definitely work hard while maintaining our health. We hope that in the future, we can grow together with Tengda and continue improving alongside it!”
