Volume 1 Chapter 43: Early Morning
Volume 1 Chapter 43: Early Morning
"Hm? Ning Chu? You are already up?"
When Wen Yang stretched and got up, the first thing he saw was that thin figure sitting in front of the computer.
He rubbed his sore shoulders and stood, his gaze sweeping the room—then stopping on the bed beside his own, still neat and tidy, clearly untouched.
“You didn’t sleep all night?”
“Why are you ignoring me?”
He muttered as he walked over to the computer and looked down, only to see Ning Chu’s pale, slender feet tucked up on the rattan chair. His body was curled into a ball, head drooping—he’d fallen asleep sitting there.
Judging by the slightly reddened circles under his eyes, he must have stayed up until at least late last night.
Wen Yang glanced at the computer screen. An old-fashioned romance movie was playing on autoplay—perfectly proper.
“So you’re actually into this kind of thing.”
He looked again at the desk. Scattered across it were seven or eight small cards, each printed with heart-fluttering images and lines of text.
He casually gathered the cards and tossed them into the trash, then knocked at his aching head and turned toward the bathroom to wash up.
Falling asleep after drinking was easy enough, but the sleep was anything but restful. Waking up meant a headache, a sore body—and if you weren’t careful, maybe even a sore ass.
It was only six in the morning. After washing up, Wen Yang had nothing to do. He turned on the TV and lowered the volume to the minimum, though his eyes kept drifting toward that petite figure.
He hesitated, unsure whether he should carry Ning Chu back to bed. Did it really matter?
Felt kind of… gay.
What if it led to some misunderstanding?
But they were both men—what was there to misunderstand?
Wen Yang scratched his messy hair. Thinking back on how Ning Chu had taken care of him these past days, he stood up. First he gently nudged Ning Chu’s shoulder and softly called out, “Wake up. Go sleep on the bed.”
“Hey, wake up?”
No response.
Left with no choice, Wen Yang had to do it himself. He slipped one arm behind Ning Chu’s head, the other carefully under his folded legs, hoping to move him to the bed without waking him.
Wen Yang applied a bit of strength—and was surprised by how light Ning Chu was.
“He’s probably not even a hundred pounds.”
Ning Chu looked thin, but his body was soft. His skin was slightly cool to the touch, fine and smooth like flour.
Wen Yang gave him a quick glance from close range—he could barely even see the hair on Ning Chu arms. Afraid of waking him, he moved lightly and swiftly, setting him down on the bed in just a few seconds and pulling a blanket over him.
“Time to enjoy the computer,” Wen Yang said, immediately turning around and sitting at the desk. He wasn’t in the mood for games, but anime or TV shows he liked would be fine—anything was better than the morning news on TV.
After finding an anime, he still felt a bit guilty and glanced back. Seeing that Ning Chu hadn’t moved at all, he finally relaxed.
After watching a few episodes, there was a light knock at the door. Wang Jie’s voice came from outside.
“Up yet?”
Wen Yang quickly got up and opened the door, seeing Wang Jie holding two bags of breakfast.
“I woke up too early and had nothing to do, so I went out and bought you guys something to eat.” Wang Jie handed him one of the bags and
continued, “Meat buns, soy milk, and a youtiao. You and Ning Chu can share.”
“Alright, thanks.”
“Is Ning Chu up yet?”
“Not yet. He probably slept really late last night—might not wake up until noon.”
“Same with Shaoqing. First time I’ve ever heard him snore.”
Wen Yang suddenly had a thought. “You think the two of them might’ve snuck out to have some fun last night while we were drunk?”
“No way. I got woken up by a really sharp noise last night. And when I woke up, Shaoqing was still playing a mobile game.”
“Who was it?”
From inside the room came a soft, lazy, slightly hoarse voice. Wen Yang turned his head and saw Ning Chu crawling to the foot of the bed, his misty, tear-filled eyes half open as he stuck his butt up and peeked toward the door.
“So noisy…”
“Wang Jie brought us food,” Wen Yang said, shaking the plastic bag in his hand. “Meat buns, soy milk, youtiao. Want some?”
“I’m sleepy…”
That voice was so soft it almost sounded like a girl’s, which made Wen Yang feel a little uncomfortable.
He was just about to say something when Ning Chu suddenly let out a sharp cry.
“Why did I fall asleep?!”
“Yes, yes! That’s exactly the sound that woke me up last night!” Wang Jie said from outside, nodding vigorously as he leaned in to look inside the room.
Sitting at the foot of the bed, Ning Chu had startled himself fully awake. He first lowered his head to check his clothes, then looked around to both sides.
All good. All good~
He let out a small sigh of relief, then looked up at his two roommates who had come in. Catching the scent of meat buns, his stomach immediately protested with a growl.
“Let’s eat first. You can sleep after you’re full.” Wen Yang put the breakfast on the table and asked, a little puzzled, “What time did you go to bed last night? Was my snoring too loud?”
“Not really.”
Ning Chu rubbed his sore eyes and yawned as he put on his shoes and got off the bed. “I’ll go wash my face first— Wait! Why am I sleeping on the bed?!”
“When I woke up, you were already sleeping on the bed.”
Of course, Wen Yang couldn’t say that he’d deliberately moved Ning Chu there just so he could use the computer.
He’d already been suspecting that Ning Chu might lean a bit that way—always trailing after him like a shadow—so it wasn’t easy for him to bring up something like worrying about Ning Chu catching a cold.
“Really?”
His memory from before falling asleep was already hazy. Ning Chu thought about it for a bit but couldn’t recall anything, so he accepted Wen Yang’s explanation and headed to the bathroom with a face full of doubt.
“I kinda want to go back to the dorm to use the computer,” Wang Jie muttered while drinking soy milk and eating breakfast. “The bar wasn’t even that fun. Why did Shaoqing insist on dragging us there? Might as well play a few games and rank up.”
“What if you rank down?” Wen Yang asked.
“Then the bar’s a bit more fun.”
Less than two minutes later, Ning Chu finished washing up and trotted back to the table. He reached out, grabbed a meat bun, and looked at the two sitting on the chairs, a thought suddenly forming in his mind.
“How about we take the bus back first?”
Last night, Zhang Shaoqing had said he was taking them to get massages today… and that was basically a disaster zone for smut novels. Who knew whether it’d be a proper massage or something else entirely?
“Is that really okay?” Wang Jie asked.
“He has a car anyway, and who knows what time he’ll wake up. We can just send him a message explaining things.” Ning Chu tried to coax Wang Jie onto his side. “Otherwise the three of us have nothing to do this early—won’t we be bored? Going back to the dorm to use the computer is way more comfortable than staying here, right?”
Wang Jie scratched his head in mild distress and looked toward Wen Yang.
Wen Yang wasn’t too keen on this kind of “betrayal” either. He frowned. “If you just want to play games, we could find an internet café nearby, right?”
An internet café…
The real point is not letting that guy Shaoqing lead you astray!
Seeing both of them hesitating, Ning Chu decided to go all in. He grabbed Wen Yang’s wrist with one hand and Wang Jie’s sleeve with the other, tugging them toward the door.
“Let’s go, let’s go back! If Shaoqing gets mad, I’ll take responsibility, okay?”
For once, he showed an unusually firm attitude. “I still need to catch up on sleep. I can’t sleep properly here at all!”
“But—”
“No buts!”
