Chapter 22: P-pervert!
I really hadn't expected it, but here we are; this world's magic system is a poor, hacked-together version of the Nasuverse's magic system...or something like that.
I mean, I highly doubt that in Nasuland humans had Spirits growing inside them and being “born” after the death of the human itself, or anything like that… but, in general, it was similar enough to connect the dots.
While I'm not a fan of Fate and such, as someone who really liked worlds with complex magic systems (Though not as much as Rofan stories, cough) I had checked the Typemoon wiki several times and searched for information to understand it when I was bored.
As such, I was pretty sure of my thoughts…mostly, Mother Earth Gaia granting Spirits to humans to grow through?
While I don't think it's something that happens in Fate or anything like that, I can't help but think of a grinning Gaia using humans as free nutrition for her extensions until they die...
The only reason this game wasn't sued was probably because they hid it so well. I can't help but be amazed at the audacity of the company... company... whatever the hell they call themselves.
Anyway, according to this magic price (DX) book, humans and their Spirits are connected by magic circuits, so activating and controlling them is the best way to use Magic; only for beginners, it's better to simply use a specific image to awaken their spirits and tap into their powers than to simply attempt something even vaguer than "almost imperceptible soul channels."
How is that any less vague? I had no plans to reflect on that, of course not. Whatever, such things will be questions to be resolved for the future Maru.
The important thing here is that this book has just provided me with some interesting information.
For example, the Elemental Aura. It's a type of spiritual essence released by the Inherent Spirits of the Mage and Warrior through magical energy, which can serve to demonstrate that you are a spirit user, rather than another Species or even a Warlock.
It is now, under the meticulous control of a warrior, able to be used to deploy a wide variety of elemental damage combat techniques, something that made me remember many of the skills that the Hero Thadeus and his physical combat heroines used in battles against Monsters and Demons.
There were simple skills like [Heavy Wind Slash] that clearly lacked good naming, but had useful effects like 'Knockback' and 'Stun' against enemies naturally weak to the wind element, or [Burning Pierce] that allowed for greater armor penetration and burning damage.
Everything, according to this, is possible due to the Elemental Aura.
There were also Auras that accelerated the natural healing process, as well as those that allowed one to blend into the darkness and become invisible. Of course, many of these effects paled in comparison to what could be achieved with conventional spellcasting through magic, but their cost was significantly lower and they could be used for extended periods with sufficient mental fortitude.
Though the drawback of Elemental Aura was that it could be noticed by anyone with superior magical senses such as Warlocks and Half-elves, who could employ magical abilities without imbuing their magical energy with Elemental Aura, interfering with nature not unlike a Nasuverse Magus.
Although I'd still have to see if they used magical foundations or something like that. This book didn't cover Witchcraft, and there were barely any records on Alchemy. However, it could give me an idea of why.
Witchcraft is the Magical Art developed by Warlocks using their natural ability to control internal Mana directly (A clear difference with the Nasuverse now that I think about it) as a means to touch mystical forces that are different from the Spirits, considered sacred by the Church of the Dawn.
Because of this, along with the fact that they carry demonic blood, of course, Witches are objects of religious hatred. As such, no one was crazy enough to openly investigate their secrets without expecting to be hunted all night until dawn... haha.
On the other hand, researching alchemy isn't prohibited. However, human mages who are particularly religious (most, actually) are quite proud of their spirits and won't readily use a magical art developed solely for the unblessed.
That's why there are so few Alchemy users among humans. Honestly? It was a total waste.
These Alchemists, especially if they were Elves or Half-Elves, were great allies of the Hero within the game with their potions and strange equipment that could make Elemental Magic permanently stealthier... while used, of course.
I started to consider whether I should find a way to learn Alchemy, not for anything else, but to see how good I would be at it. Either way, it would be a concern for the future Maru!
While I was thinking about all those things while lying in bed, a low voice echoed in my room. “Hey…eh…..Maru?”
“Thadeus-Kun?” I turned around in surprise, frowning.
Didn't mom kick you out?
With an awkward expression and a red face as he stared at something I couldn’t see, Thadeus shook his head and pulled something out of his pockets to throw it at me, saying in a somewhat guilty and nervous, but also strangely excited voice, “I came to return this to you…I’m sorry…uh, about this and that…”
“Ah…” I blinked as Aragon’s magic brooch fell onto the bed without fail, and looked at him to try and say something, but Thadeus-Kun stepped forward and ran off with an awkward and embarrassed expression before I could say anything, almost looking like he was going to have smoke coming out of his ears.
What was all that about?
I was confused… it was definitely a really dumb mistake to have carried my family heraldry (ugh) around with him after he got kicked out, but was it really that big of a deal? Blushing like that… it's kind of cute… no, dumb.
As I pondered with my head tilted, I picked up the magic brooch and realized something. Why didn't this thing have a Magic Aura anymore?
Confused by this phenomenon, which contradicted my previous experience, I raised my upper body higher in an attempt to examine it more closely. I felt the dress slide down my back… I froze; a thought suddenly came to me, that of Thadeus Soronajdo, and the thought horrified me.
I immediately turn my head towards my bottom…..and see an adorable butt with nice and tender panties exposed, with a beautiful milky white and delicate skin color that was very different from what I had in my previous life!
I could feel my face burning brightly. Even though I've only recently become accustomed to this body and haven't fully grown accustomed to it, this...this is unexpectedly embarrassing...
Of course, I mean that... Thadeus-Kun saw my damn white buttocks!
“P-pervert!”
Holding my burning cheeks with both hands after fixing my dress, I had to restrain myself from screaming that!
Still...that was still embarrassing!
(Meanwhile, with Thadeus, the future Playboy hero of the world….)
Thadeus ran home with a red face, thinking to himself with a strange emotion in his chest, “S-so this is what a girl’s butt looks like… it’s very pretty…”
He himself had no idea why that image remained engraved in his memory or why it mattered in particular….
