Chapter 6: You were so dense as a child, hero?

While I was hesitating where to sit, I finally chose a spot by the counter, at Thadeus's urging…next to him, yes.

The bread and soup were served promptly, and Lily immediately placed a wooden cup filled with water next to our plates. I, having already found several objectionable points in this fantasy world, decided to reflect on them while I ate.

Come to think of it, when was the last time I ate using my own hands of my own free will, instead of someone else forcing me to eat…?

With those thoughts in mind, he tore off a slightly hard piece of bread and dipped it into the stew-like soup…At once, I realized that my long-dead sense of taste was now active, and the taste of the soup made my thoughts verbalize before I could comprehend them.

"…Delicious…"

“Really..? It’s weird that you act so moved by a homemade breakfast you eat every day, Maru.”

That's right...this is normal.

Apparently, my face lit up unwittingly at the taste of the food. Only after Thadeus-kun pointed it out did I realize I had a smile on my face.

Reflecting on my past meals…which consisted solely of water, intravenous feedings, and the occasional oral pill since a certain accident, I could only recall my poor nutrition as a human, with a feeling of emptiness.

When you put it like that...this life sounds even better.

A healthy body, a new family that certainly doesn't think of me as a money-consuming burden, something to maintain for the sake of social image... sounds good.

If it weren't for the gender and mission change, it would be...perfect.

“What are you thinking so much about?”

“Huh?…Nothing”

I shook my head at Thadeus, turning my attention back to the food in front of me.

As I savored the flavors I had been deprived of experiencing for the past two and a half years—while also reflecting on the fact that I can move around more freely than ever, now that I think about it—more people started to make their way down the stairs to the upper floor for breakfast, with a cheerful little girl helping out with service and bringing friendly smiles to a few people.

It seemed like Mom's business was going from strength to strength. While it wasn't exceptionally large, it was relatively well-stocked with people who were clearly temporary residents. Come to think of it, in the game, you guided the protagonist to convince adventurers to help him save what remained of the village...

Was there a good hunting ground nearby? They seemed no better than novice adventurers, but... No, more like, when did the attack on the village take place?

I seem to recall there was an introduction that talked about the terrible genocide of an entire village by evil bandits and a savage Orc… What date was mentioned?

Ah…300 years of the New Imperial Dynasty of Neruen. Today was March 31st, in the year 299 of…

…Huh? I was sent a year before that disaster?

Realizing something thanks to the information inside my little brain, the wooden spoon I was holding involuntarily fell from my hands, staining the table and my brown dress with some soup and startling Thadeus beside me.

“Maru, what’s wrong with you?!”

“Ah…it’s nothing,” I replied, a little nervously. I couldn’t just say that the mafia god was generous and sent me, a boy, a year before a village massacre in the body of his girlfriend, right?

Thadeus raised an eyebrow and stared at me, puzzled.

“You’re really acting strange today… Did you have a bad dream or something?”

"….and"

I nodded with a bitter smile, using that as an excuse for my behavior. This immediately made Thadeus a little nervous and worried, and he asked me gently while suddenly holding my hand.

"Are you OK?"

“Y-yes…”

I couldn't help but stutter in response to his sudden action, feeling strangely uneasy. No, why am I blushing about that!?

It's just a simple touch of hands... it seemed this girl was more in love with Thadeus than I thought, for my new body's reactions to be like this. I just wish they didn't have that unpleasant impact on me...

“Children, please don’t flirt while eating breakfast,” Mam suddenly commented loudly while rolling her eyes in our direction, the resident adventurers whistling in response with smirks and Lily and the maid Rose covering their mouths to hold back their own smirks.

“Mom!? What are you saying….!?”

I blushed even more... What the hell!? Stop it...!

Maybe remaining a sick, low-mobility Latino was better than this…

“Flirting? I don’t quite understand what you mean…”

Thadeus tilted his head in confusion, and we all stared at them wordlessly.

No...you were so dense about the game? How come I don't remember...?
