Chapter 8: How do I look?

The Sword of Salvation was not an item obtained after a long quest….

It was a divine weapon, purely conceptual, which materialized in reality by the elemental reaction of four spirits Fire, Water, Earth and Air, which supposedly make up everything that exists, which awaken in an individual with the heart and determination to save the world.

The Sword manifests before the hero and takes a portion of the spirits' power for itself, materializing completely, and it is then that the Hero takes the sword of salvation to save humanity.

That's what Thadeus-kun did in the game.

In any case, the power of the spirits was the main source of power for both humanity and most intelligent species, except for the Demons and their Kings who worship the Calamity Dragon.

While I was recalling in detail about the magic system of this world, I inadvertently entered a slightly familiar room, picked up a slightly thick book, and started reading on a specific page out of pure instinct… wow, it’s literally engraved on this body, right?

And she did it so obediently, even though she was scolded for not studying well… Does Mom take notes on the progress in learning Magic?

That's how it should be, I suppose. And she's probably pretty serious about it, making sure to punish me if I can't even do this unsupervised... I can only imagine how serious. She's a busy mother, so she can't keep an eye on me all the time, so of course there has to be a punishment for disobedience.

Anyway…. I quickly started reading the book in my hands.

It was in a language completely unfamiliar to me, though it looked similar to French writing I'd seen elsewhere. The book cover wasn't of the highest quality, but I think it was pretty good that a commoner family could afford that kind of thing, and its pages weren't bad at all.

There, written with a certain elegance... were basic and practical knowledge for understanding spirits and how to make the most of their magical powers for the benefit of the magician; just as you say, the title, "Basic Knowledge for Magic Apprentices."

Hmm? I know all this…

Rather, I learned it from the game, so it wasn't exactly detailed. However, with the sudden addition of knowledge from the previous original coming to me immediately, I can safely say that the contents of this book are no longer useful in supplementing my knowledge of magic.

Feeling the Spirit within you, communicating with it through your soul, and guiding its energy to express itself externally using spells as a focus and channel… I understand all that now.

Not only that, whether through the game or through Maru's own knowledge, he even knows what basic materials to use to create simple runes.

In fact, I even feel like I can use a spell right now.

Encouraged by that thought, I quickly threw the book aside, stood up from the bed I was sitting on, looked out the window and… Wait, what was my Spirit again?

Even with the Awakening of the Spirit's power, without a clear picture of what you're dealing with, it's difficult to connect with the Inherent Spirit within and harness its power. Especially in the beginning, where Spirits are nothing more than weakly sentient masses of energy without independent thought until they can develop sapiens with human help.

Knowing what kind of spirit I have is very important, as is having an idea of what it might look like. Although that was pretty much a piece of cake, if you ignore certain issues.

Spirits born from the mystical egg often share similar characteristics with the humans who carry them. But generally, there are also unusual features like wings, horns, tails, etc. If you manage to evoke a spirit's spiritual projection, it's possible to see a version of yourself with strange features.

Although they could also manifest themselves as animals of some kind….

Well, I'd have to see how I look first before doing anything else.

I'm also curious about my own appearance, since Mom and Lily could be considered beauties in their own right... What would Maru look like?

It can't be inferior, right?

With that thought, which, shamefully, became my main motivation, I looked around me—noting that, as expected, my room was quite simple—and managed to see a small, relatively dirty metal mirror on a table that was quite decent for the lower class of the Kingdom.

I reached out to grab it and took a quick look at myself.

...I froze.
