Chapter 1: : Nightmare on Halkeginia
It was supposed to be a normal day for the students in the academy. Especially for the second year students. One that is nothing but filled with lessons, shenanigans, and a couple of explosions caused by Louise's failed spells.
But today is rather special for them. For they shall summon their familiars. Their "Partners in crime" for the rest of their life. You could say that they'll just summon a soon to be friend and life long partner. But on this special day, of course something was bound to happen, thanks to Zero Louise.
In a world where magic exists, a world where the nobility, like always, is a bitc- Flawed concept, where they have the capabilities to use magic other than having social and political power, not to mention wealth, and world where it is basically in the era of 11th century, not to mention a country themed around France, there is bound to be a revolution down the lines.
But that is not what happens. You could say, a nightmare is about to be unleashed upon this world. A Nightmare that shall last forever not until they decide to tend matters back to where they came from.
Shall their little vacation in a new and foreign world be one of that smooth sailing, or that of countless murders once more under her hands. Does these murders have meanings or is it done just for the pure joy and satisfaction given once the deed has been done.
Two different people, one human, and one spirit. Two different worlds with their own different laws on how life is lived by the creatures and sentient beings that walk upon them. Two different personalities. One is a hothead, yet can be kind, the other an enigma. A personality hidden with layers of facade, hiding that maniacal side of her who drowns in sadistic pleasure.
Two entirely different people. Two opposites. But share the same sentiment. To try and live a normal life among those in their world. One is not accepted for she cannot cast a single spell properly. The other outcast due to her nature as a person entirely.
Shall these two unlikely duos change something within each other's lives, or shall they descend to a hell caused by this day? One shall know as soon, all of their lives would about to change. Their stories bend, and a new one comes out.
A tale of interference and disruption between two universes, matters left unattended, or taken care of by someone else. A clone to be summoned, or the original host of the clones?
Another supposedly ordinary day, that will change the course of events. Either for both worlds, or to only one.
One's actions shall make a permanent mark on Tristain's history, and in the history of Halkeginia. For a being, to be specific, a spirit with powers and abilities unknown to this medieval world of magic shall make their entrance to this new world. A Nightmare upon them.
"Please! Spare me!" Screamed someone in the middle of the night. The scene was bloody, it was enough to make a man scream from insanity and spur out the contents of his stomach. Within the alleyway, blood decorated the walls, along with some chunks of flesh on the floor.
There, one man was cowering in fear. Backed against the wall, still trying to back away in the hopes to get out from his soon to be cruel fate.
On the other side of the alleyway, there stands a girl. Her appearance seems like she is in her teenage years. She's dressed in a gothic dress, that of black and red. Her hair was styled with twin tails with one being shorter than the other. And a net bow that is crimson holding her hair in the way it is.
She was wielding primitive guns, more accurately, a musket on one hand, and a flintlock on the other. She walks ever so slowly towards the man, as if the predator had found its prey.
She gave out small maniacal laughter as she was about to end this man's life, she'd be the one to play the grim reaper before him.
"W-We told you everything! Please!" he pleaded for his dear life, but it fell into deaf ears. No one would save him, and she would definitely not spare him.
"I am grateful for the information you gave me, now the tip of your services." She said and aimed her flintlock at the poor man, still walking towards him.
The man is desperately looking everywhere to see if there's an escape from this mad woman before him. To the point that he failed to notice she was a meter away from him.
If we count in the history and the physics of musket-type of weaponry, it is safe to say that the ball would easily find its mark. And it's his head.
But it was too late for the man. Once he returned his attention to the girl, in the small glimpse of time, as he turned his head towards her to make eye contact, she saw the whites of his eyes. And as soon as he had looked at her for a moment, a second at least, she fired her shot, and just like that, the man had died.
She then proceeds to fire three more shots into his forehead until there was just a big gaping hole on what once was his forehead.
As soon as the deed is done, the girl acted as if killing was not something considered as downright horrible.
"Ara ara, what a mess this whole interrogation made." She shook her head. Then, shadows began to form underneath the crime scene. All the chunks of flesh, blood, and one corpse that only suffered four shots from musket rounds, were all swallowed up by the shadows. And like that, the alleyway was free from the horrific scene caused by the girl.
"Now that that's taken care of, I should probably inform me about the information I got."
She just looks up at the beautifully lit night sky before her. Everything was going according to plan so far. From what she got, DEM was about to send out two personnel after her beloved Shido.
"Looks like we just have the right person to counter that." She mutters to herself, "Afterall, it's about time that we have a date." she added, giving a sinister smile as she said so.
According to her clone or other clones like herself, at this point there's no telling which one is the real one, they had decided to finally make a move.
A bet, more of a game with Shido. Whoever makes the other person's heart skip a beat wins. For the girl, she gets to devour Shido. For Shido, he gets to seal her powers.
'Thanks for the intel, me' One of the others responded. Thanks to their ability, they could communicate telepathically no matter how far they are from one another.
Now with her job done, she decided to return back where she came from. In the dimensional pockets within her shadows. What she had failed to realize is that she isn't going through her shadows. Instead, she was sinking into a portal that appeared underneath her and not her shadow.
Thus, the others felt like they were going through some type of gate way and the feeling disappeared. They lost contact with one of their clones.
But in the end, they shrugged it off. They can always make more of themselves in the process, and one is not that of a big loss. And so, they didn't bother worrying about the clone they had just sent, and went on with the rest of their plans.
If the clone just knew their fate on the other side.
On the other side of things in this foreign world, the scene went like this. Dust and smoke littered the courtyard, students covering their eyes to prevent dust making contact with them, and some people coughing.
Among these people was a pinkette. Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière. The third daughter of the duke who currently is the head of the family. We see her coughing as well.
"Damnit Zero!" Guiche said.
"Probably another fluke." Kirche commented as the smoke finally cleared up a bit.
"She probably summoned something uncool." Another giggles.
Tabitha is just on the side, still reading her book without a care to the world before her.
"Just wait and see!" Louise yells at them as the smoke starts to clear up.
And to everyone's surprise, her familiar seems to be human. Wearing an outfit that was foreign to them. They hadn't seen anything like it. For some of the male students, they were practically attracted to the young lady that was summoned, while the summoner, Louise, was practically confused on how she should feel about this.
"Such odd clothes." Montmorency commented, observing the clothes of the summoned Familiar.
"Is she a plebian?" One of the students whispered.
"What is that on her left eye?" Another student asked, noticing that one of the girl's eyes is red, while the other is yellow, and seems to be a clock. This was the detail that caught most students' attention.
They made various comments about the familiar, but to the familiar, she seems too confused about what's happening. First off, the language is foreign to her but it sounds like something from France.
'Is this some sort of trick?' She thought to herself, but then she noticed she doesn't hear the others.
She then proceeds to observe the surrounding area. As she observes, the architecture and the clothing is nothing like she had seen back in Tengu City, to be more specific, back in the world she knew.
'Where am I?' She continues to observe the place while Louise is currently arguing with Mr. Colbert.
"Do I have to do this Mr. Colbert!?" Louise said, reluctant to even form a contract between her and the person she had summoned. "Can't I just summon another one!?"
"Sorry, Louise, but you have to continue on with the ceremony." Mr. Colbert sternly replied, there is clearly no room for negotiation so she decided to concede and continue on with the ceremony.
Louise then proceeds to continue the ceremony with the girl before her still trying to put the pieces together on where she is.
"Pentagon of the Five Elemental Magics, grant your blessing upon this creature and bind it as my Familiar!" She declared pointing her wand to the girl.
Her magic activated then the girl then felt pain. On her side, she never had felt such pain, but now, it really does hurt for her.
She struggles to hold in her screams, the pain is too much for her. Witnessing this, no one knows what to do with the situation. For everyone else, their familiar hadn't felt pain when they made the contract, but for Louise however she was panicking inside.
'What is this!?' The girl thought while she was going through the pain.
"W-What do I do, Mr. Colbert!?" A panicked Louise asked.
"Seal the contract!" Colbert said as he couldn't take the screaming anymore, covering his ears. Same goes for the rest of the students.
"Damnit! Make it stop, Louise!" The redhead tanned girl, Kirche Zerbst, demanded as she's on the verge of tearing out her ears.
Louise did just that just to make her stop from screaming.
"Just endure it for a second." She muttered to the familiar.
'Why is she getting closer all of a sudden?' the girl asked herself, and then she felt a sensation on her lips.
Louise was kissing the girl in front of everyone. And as the second passes by, the girl calms down, and the pain she felt was gone. As soon as the runes had started appearing on the girl's left hand, the contract was as good as sealed.
"There, done." Louise utters, enduring the embarrassment from the action she took.
Then her familiar passed out from the pain she had to endure and dozed off. She fell to the ground and everyone took notice. Thankfully, Louise caught her, and then Mr. Colbert spoke.
"Louise, bring her to your room. She needs to recover from that… Contract…" With this, Louise earned some small giggles from her classmates, and in response she just gave them the death glare that made them shut their mouths.
She then proceeds to head to her room with her Familiar.
'Why does it have to be human?' She sighed and just went back to her room. She expected something like a dragon or some type of beast, but no. It had to be human. The surprise that is waiting for her in the next few days would not make her regret summoning this girl.
The students' day went on like always, attending classes and such, while the newly summoned girl rested in Louise's room, being cared for by Siesta. Everything seems to be going normal so far.
Yet unknown to them, Zero Louise had summoned a nightmare upon their world. Shall this nightmare be like that of her twisted personality back then, or shall it be striving for a more "normal" life?
It was already night when she had regained her consciousness. She's currently laying on a bed, opening her eyes and seeing the ceiling.
She blinks twice to confirm what she was seeing.
"Huh?" She then proceeds to sit up from the bed and check the room. The room's design was like that of the medieval era for nobles.
"I can't sense any mana interference, looks like this is not an illusion." She utters to herself.
She then stood up from the bed and walked to the window to look outside, what she saw further confirms that she is somehow in a different world.
"Ara ara, what predicament am I in this time?" She utters to herself as she gazes at the beautifully lit sky.
"Even the stars are not the same." She sighs.
"About time you woke up." Someone said, but to her, she didn't understand a thing.
"Who's there?" She asks as she turns around, "Oh it's you."
"What the hell are you saying?" Louise asks her, but then Mr. Colbert came into the room along with Louise.
"Louise, we should probably cast the spell for her to understand us." The man said, now pulling out his wand and began to chant something. The girl was about to pull out her weapons but the chanting stopped and the spell was casted.
"What did you do?" The girl asks.
"There, much better." Mr. Colbert commented. "And to what I did, I just casted a spell so that you can understand us, and we can understand you."
"I see." The girl said her smile was still on. "Now tell me, why am I here?" She said as she manifested her musket and flintlock. Pointing both guns at Louise and Mr. Colbert.
They were taken aback, while Mr. Colbert prepared to fight.
"I'll give you 10 seconds to explain the situation." She said as she readied her guns.
Before Louise could respond, Mr. Colbert answered on her behalf.
"You were summoned here because you are to be a Familiar to Louise." He explained as Louise stepped forward.
"A Familiar?" The girl said, not lowering her guns, not satisfied with the answer she got.
"Yes, a Familiar."
"What do you mean by 'Familiar'?" She asks.
"You'll be serving Louise for the rest of your life, binded by a contract."
"And this contract was made when?"
"Earlier, in the ceremony." He replied.
The girl then looks back from earlier. Remembering what had transpired after she got the intel she needed. The confusion and the pain she felt, flashed back in her mind.
"I see, so the contract is done I assume?" She asks.
"Yes it is." Colbert replied.
"Then let me ask you one more question." She said,
Colbert and Louise looked at each other, and then they nodded, signaling her to ask.
"Is there any way for me to go back to where I came from?" She asked, steadying her grip on her guns.
"Sadly, I don't think so." He replied.
The girl then sighs, and lowers her guns.
"Well, looks like I have no choice but accept this fate." She said, her smile not faltering. Her guns then dissipated into the air.
Both Louise and Colbert sighed in relief as the guns were now not in her presence.
"Ara ara, where are my manners?" She said, gaining the attention of both student and teacher, "I haven't introduced myself." She sighed as if she was disappointed in herself.
She then proceeds to introduce her politely, slightly pulling up the skirt of her dress. "My name's Kurumi Tokisaki. And I'm a spirit. Good to make your acquaintances."
"I am Jean Colbert, a teacher here in Tristain Academy of magic."
"And I'm Louise Françoise le Blanc de la Vallière. Likewise."
"Now that the introductions are out of the way, may I ask you something, Kurumi?"
"Hm, what is it that you wish to know, Colbert-san?"
"When you say you're a spirit, what do you mean by that?" He asked.
"Ah, spirits are beings that would create a spacequake." She explained as if it was basic knowledge.
"Spacequakes?" Louise utters, "What is a 'Spacequake'?"
"Ah right, I am not from this world am I?" She said, "Spacequakes are essentially a powerful explosion, enough to destroy and erase entire cities from the surface of this world." She said so calmly, even as if it was nothing of concern for them.
But to no one's surprise, they were shocked when they heard the information.
"D-Destroy…?" Colbert utters,
"E-entire c-cities?" Louise added.
The shock and fear on their faces were delightful for Kurumi.
"Do you want to see one?" She asks them, her smile not faltering what so ever.
Then at once, they felt a shock wave pass them. Not only them, but everyone within the school premises.
Ms. Longueville and Old Man Osmond were both looking up at the sky with confusion and fear.
"W-What is that?" Longueville asked as she looked at the black orb in the sky that kept growing and coming closer.
"I-I don't know Ms. Longueville…" Old Osmond said as his Familiar rat cowered in fear and hid behind Osmond's head. "I-I haven't seen anything like it." he said as he looked at awe and terror at the mysterious black orb.
Zerbst was in the middle of her sleep when she felt the shockwave. It awoke her to her annoyance.
"Damnit, probably Zero again." She said as she decided to go back to sleep.
The rest on the other hand, were the same as Old Man Osmond and Ms. Longueville. Guiche and Montmorency were outside, in the courtyard, staring at the night sky and then suddenly the dark orb appeared.
Siesta was doing her nightly chores but when she looked up at the sky, she dropped the basket of laundry she was holding at the sight.
"Wh-What is that?" Montmorency asked as her body shook in fear.
"I-I don't know…" Guiche responded.
Tabitha on the other hand just stared at the sky blankly, showing no concern. But for the rest of the students, they witnessed this in shock and everyone went outside including the faculty staff. They treated the event as if they were under attack.
"Everyone get outside, now!" Yelled one of the teachers as they supervised the students that were exiting their rooms.
Same goes to Louise, Colbert and Kurumi. Everyone went outside and they all looked up at the sky, most of them were panicking at the sight.
"What is that!?" Some yelled, while the others were cowering in fear.
When Louise and Colbert first saw that, they felt fear as if death was in front of them, which it is.
"Hehehe~" Kurumi starts to giggle at the sight, her smile growing wider.
Everyone in the immediate area notices Kurumi giggling. Giggling because of her demonstration of power.
"Hahaha~" She now laughs at the sight, both of her eyes glowing their respective colors as she laughed.
Old Osmond was the first one to talk and interrogate the mysterious girl.
"D-Did you do this?" He stutters, but thanks to his perverted antics, he doesn't stutter because of fear, but because of what Kurumi is wearing.
She then proceeds to look at the old man for a couple of seconds in silence. Her smile did not falter and turned into a wicked one.
That was enough to confirm that she did do it, but not only that but then she proceeds to openly declare it.
"Why yes I did." She calmly said.
Everyone looked at her in disbelief, mostly Louise, Colbert, Old Osmond, Kirche, Guiche and Montmorency, and Siesta. Somehow Tabitha gave enough care to the world to even give attention to what Kurumi said.
She then continued to laugh as everyone was accepting their fate in fear. But, the faculty staff decided they'd take action and use their magic against Kurumi. But before they could even do so, the orb had disappeared.
"Wait what?"
"Where did it go?
"What just happened?"
Every student noticed while the teachers then looked up at the sky. The orb was gone.
Once more Kurumi giggles in delight which caught everyone's attention.
"Thank you everyone for letting me demonstrate a spacequake." She said, bowing.
"A S-Space- What?"
"Sp-Spacequake?"
Some students stuttered.
"A phenomenon that happens because of a spirit." Colbert utters in fear. Everyone looked at him when he said that.
"How did you know that Mr. Colbert?" Kirche demanded answers.
"S-She told us…" Louise points at Kurumi in response.
Everyone's attention was now back to the laughing spirit.
"S-So…" Guiche utters.
"S-She's…" Montmorency continues.
"A Spirit…?" Kirche ended.
Everyone was still anticipating what would happen next as Kurumi was still laughing maniacally. Every teacher prepares their wands if things go south.
Kurumi then turned around to face them and said, "Yes, I am." She continued laughing as the teachers were still on guard, prepared to move.
"I look forward to serving you, Louise-sama." Kurumi then bows, "Please take care of me." She added.
Nightmare have been unleashed into the continent of Halkeginia. And she is now a servant of Zero Louise.
