Chapter 105: Elf Diplomacy
"Let's form an alliance."
"...Onii-chan, how did you think that would work?"
"Mm."
Top Chat: Elf-san lol
Top Chat: A wise elf countering underhanded tactics with underhanded tactics
Top Chat: Smart move
Top Chat: Didn’t you guys just botch your intelligence check?
"Kirishi-tan, let's form an alliance."
"So you could hear me after all... careless of me to forget that."
"Mmm."
Top Chat: Elf-saaaan lol
Top Chat: Clever elf boldly practicing double-tongued diplomacy
Top Chat: Very clever
Top Chat: Didn’t you guys just fumble your intelligence check?
"Diplomatic defeat."
Top Chat: lmao
Top Chat: Yeah, no way he could’ve won that one
Top Chat: Well, that’s part of the fun of multiplayer
Top Chat: Sometimes even platinum-ranked randoms get ganged up on and crushed
Top Chat: I mean, if you’re blatantly waving around a 'Look at me, I’m strong!' sign…
Top Chat: And yet they still win a lot, that’s what makes rankers scary
"Kyoka."
"What is it, Onii-chan?"
"I’ll give you a barrel?"
"Doesn’t work if you put conditions on it!"
Top Chat: Persistent elf
Top Chat: Hmph, pointless negotiations!
Top Chat: How dare you!
Top Chat: But honestly, if Kyoka-chan says 'I want it,' Elf-san would just hand it over unconditionally
Top Chat: True enough
"I won’t give it to you anymore."
"You won’t?"
"...I’ll only give you one."
Top Chat: Softie lol
Top Chat: Way too lenient lol
"Alright, alright. Elf and Siren, cut it out with that stuff."
"So it’s no good?"
"Victory isn’t something you’re handed. It’s something you take by any means necessary."
Top Chat: Kirishi-tan walking the true gamer’s path
Top Chat: More than just a difference in playstyle, it feels like a difference in philosophy
Top Chat: This kind of clumsy passion is actually pretty great
Top Chat: If you’ve realized that, then it’s time to become a lamb
Top Chat: S-stop, no, aaaaaaaaah (channel subscribed)
Top Chat: Lamb check passed
"You’re right. I’d rather seize victory than be given it."
"That’s exactly what I expected you to say. Alright, shall we start round two?"
"Yeah!"
"Y-yeah!"
Top Chat: Kirishi-tan, who’ll do anything to win VS Elf, who’ll also do anything to win
Top Chat: Looks the same at first glance, but Elf-san’s 'methods' are… different lol
Top Chat: Elf-san always goes for some out-of-left-field approach
Top Chat: Exactly
"So the first round’s another race, huh."
The practice match, then the first round—just like before, forty players lined up in three rows at the starting line.
Top Chat: First round is always a race
Top Chat: Because races allow respawns
Top Chat: The point is every player gets to play until the end in the first round
Top Chat: Oh, so it’s also kind of beginner-friendly
Top Chat: It’s starting, it’s starting!
"Siren! Let’s go!"
"Y-yes!"
The one who shot out first was Kirishi-tan. Kyoka followed right after. Luck put them both in the front row, and they forcefully slipped into the rhythm of the moving lifts.
Top Chat: Whoa, those two completely pulled ahead
Top Chat: The rest, including Elf-san, are stuck waiting for the lift
Top Chat: Kirishi-tan being good isn’t surprising, but Kyoka keeping up is shocking
Top Chat: Kinda… kinda… clumsy image, you know?
Top Chat: Someone please think of a nicer word lol
Top Chat: But what’s the plan, rushing out like that?
Top Chat: Elf-san’s at the very back, but that’s on purpose, right?
"Big crowds are dangerous."
When the lift area got packed, any mistake from someone nearby could drag others down. So, without forcing it, I chose to watch the race unfold from the very back. No problem. Because I had barrels.
Top Chat: This stage does have a barrel spot, so it’ll be fine
Top Chat: With barrels, even starting last is no issue
Top Chat: You can always turn things around
"As I thought. That’s just what Elf would do."
Kirishi-tan, at the lead, was heading for the barrel stash. It didn’t look like the stage had any gimmick that actually required barrels, but—
"Siren! Toss every single barrel!"
"Eh!? Oh, I get it! Right away!"
Top Chat: Ohhh, that’s genius!
Top Chat: They don’t care about being overtaken, just chucking barrels nonstop!
Top Chat: E-Elf-san, hurry! The barrels are disappearing!
"Impossible."
Before I could get there, every barrel from this stage’s only stash had already been hurled into the abyss.
