Chapter 154: Hoshigumi – Sudou Youki

"Last is me. I’m Shutenn Youji of 2.5D—the Drunken Child. It’s written as 『おさなご』(Osanago) but read as 『Youji』. I’ll be battling to become the world’s best in retro game RTA, with a focus on Sky High. At least, that’s the plan."

Top Chat: Loli! Loli!
Top Chat: As a member of the Watanabe household, I’ve been waiting to hear you say those words—"battling to become the world’s best."
Top Chat: Only those of us in the family would get how moving this is.

"But why the heck am I wearing a chemise? And with a yellow helmet too… I don’t dress like this!"

Youki’s avatar was that of a petite young girl. A star-shaped badge could even be seen on her chest.

"That’s a smock."

"So I got judged as a kindergartener!?"

Top Chat: Not a helmet, but a kindergarten cap lol
Top Chat: I thought she was unusually small, and now it makes sense
Top Chat: Even the AI acknowledges her as a loli
Top Chat: Lifetime Honorary Loli
Top Chat: Same with Entarou, these avatars are a bit extreme

"Alright, Kagahara here! Ah, I mean, I’m the person in charge of Iron Cardboard! I heard they made adjustments so traits would stand out more!"

Top Chat: Ohhh
Top Chat: But why go that far?

"I don’t know!"

Top Chat: Hey lol
Top Chat: Who assigned this guy as the contact person? w
Top Chat: It was the only way to get close to Elf-san… probably
Top Chat: If they generated avatars straight from reality, everyone would look too similar, right?
Top Chat: Ahhh
Top Chat: After all, most of us are Japanese
Top Chat: The only real exception is Elf-san

"I’m Japanese, you know."

"Huh, you’re not Western!?"

Top Chat: The Iron Cardboard guy reacted instantly lol
Top Chat: This is their usual back-and-forth

"What does that mean…?"

"Because she’s an elf."

"I see! …I see?"

Top Chat: Feels like they’re just powering through on momentum
Top Chat: Elf-san is her own race, so don’t question it
Top Chat: lol
Top Chat: Anyway, looks like everyone finished introducing themselves

"Mn. Explain the game."

Top Chat: Been waiting for this
Top Chat: So, what kind of game is it?

"Before I explain the rules, how familiar are you all with Werewolf? Let’s go in order starting with Elf-san!"

"I don’t know it."

"I’ve played it at school before. I don’t really know the complicated variants with things like foxes or shared seers, though."

"I’ve played a bit. Did some matches on stream, but only with the basic rules."

"I’ve only seen other streamers play it."

"To add to Misora’s words—she’s watched over a hundred matches. Since we planned videos around it, I’ve also studied the basics."

"Um… I don’t know it."

"I know the rules, but I’ve never actually played."

"I’ve only seen it in videos myself."

So, Kyoka and I didn’t know the game. The rest seemed to have knowledge of at least the basics.

Top Chat: So no real veterans here, huh
Top Chat: I figured Elf-san and Kyoka would be beginners, but I’m surprised some of the more sociable ones don’t know it well either
Top Chat: Well, they’re more into specific games, Reverse God’s crew, and the Elf enthusiasts
Top Chat: Ahh, if it’s Werewolf, then of course that’s the pick
Top Chat: RIP Elf enthusiasts, ignored again

"Alright, we’ll do a practice round later, but first I’ll explain the basics. Werewolf is a game where villagers and werewolves split into sides and aim to win through discussion."

"Hm."

"With some exceptions, no one knows who has which role. The team that fulfills its win condition or wipes out the other side wins together as a group."

Top Chat: Right, the thing about Werewolf is that it produces multiple winners, so it’s hard to crown a single champion
Top Chat: Maybe just don’t focus too much on victory?
Top Chat: Hmmm, but Elf-san not focusing on winning feels off…

"Heheheh. I’ve already thought of a way around that!"

"And how?"

"Every winning side earns one point per player. On top of that, one MVP will be chosen by stream vote for an extra point. After three games, whoever has the most points overall is the champion!"

Top Chat: Feels like it might end in a tie
Top Chat: Still, with each Werewolf match being pretty long, this sounds like a reasonable setup

"Now then, we’ll move into the detailed rules while playing a practice round!"
