Chapter 56: Stopping Chen Yin for Some Torment
Chapter 56: Stopping Chen Yin for Some Torment
As the evening settled in, Luo Luo sat at the edge of the bed in the inn, nibbling on a piece of pastry while her tail swayed eagerly with anticipation.
Chen Yin, however, had been staring at the book Luo Luo mentioned earlier in silence for a long while. Finally, he struggled to force out a few words:
“...This is the story you want me to read to you?”
“Yes!” Luo Luo’s ears twitched with delight. “This book is so interesting! The stories in it are absolutely amazing. Just reading a little bit made me fall in love with it.”
“But it’s no fun to read alone. I’d much rather have Young Master read it to me!”
Chen Yin let out a sigh, his expression a mix of awkwardness and bewilderment.
—Reading a story aloud wasn’t the problem.
The problem was—
This was a porn book.
The title of the book was Tales of the Rouge Pavilion, and the Rouge Pavilion was a well-known brothel in Xiang City.
As the name suggested, the book was a collection of stories about the women and their clients at the Rouge Pavilion. While the prose wasn’t overtly crude or vulgar, it was elegantly suggestive. Still, for anyone remotely experienced, it wouldn’t take more than a few lines to realize just how fast this "car" was speeding.
And Chen Yin? Before his rebirth, he could’ve been considered a semi-professional writer of such "romantic literature."
After skimming through a few chapters, he already felt more than a little embarrassed. He couldn’t fathom how Luo Luo could read this book so enthusiastically.
Did she understand it, or didn’t she?
Luo Luo, growing impatient, clung to Chen Yin’s shoulder eagerly. “Young Master~ Are you ready yet?”
“Uh… Ahem.”
Clearing his throat, Chen Yin put on a serious face. “Luo Luo, be honest with me. Who gave you this book?”
“Why are you asking, Young Master?”
“...Because this will determine whether or not I need to help the authorities deal with a few scumbags.”
“No one gave it to me! I found it in the western part of the city.”
Luo Luo grinned, showing her little tiger-like teeth. “I was wandering around the streets at night when I saw this brand-new book lying on the ground outside the brightest tavern. It looked interesting, so I picked it up.”
“While I was waiting for you to return, I started reading it to pass the time. It’s really fascinating!”
Chen Yin buried his face in his hands, utterly dismayed.
Seriously? No matter how down on your luck you are, there’s no need to pick up random trash from the streets! I hired a maid, not a beggar!
“Luo Luo, listen to me.”
Chen Yin spoke earnestly, trying to reason with her. “This book… it’s not interesting at all. The stories in it are completely dull and boring.”
“How about this? Tomorrow, I’ll go to the bookstore and pick out a few fun historical tales or ghost stories. I’ll read them to you in the evening. How about that?”
Luo Luo’s ears, which had been perked up with excitement, immediately drooped like withered leaves. Her adorable little face was filled with disappointment.
“Ugh… Young Master doesn’t keep his word,” she pouted, her lips quivering as tears welled up in her eyes.
Chen Yin had absolutely no resistance to this pitiful expression. His heart softened instantly, and he gave in: “Alright, alright! I’ll read it, okay? I’ll read it!”
Reluctantly, he picked up the porn book with painstaking slowness, his expression a masterpiece of awkwardness as he flipped to the first story.
After clearing his throat, Chen Yin began reading with great difficulty:
“Ahem. ‘It is said that a merchant from the Southern Kingdom, weary from his travels, sought lodging at the Rouge Pavilion. There, he found a night of joy and ease to relieve his journey’s fatigue.’
‘The merchant, bringing with him a trove of rare Southern goods, was in high spirits as he sipped tea that evening. He then took out a small, bean-shaped powder ball and placed it into the tea… tea…’”
Chen Yin’s expression grew more strained with every word, as though he was moments away from grinding his teeth to dust.
Luo Luo, noticing his peculiar reaction, tilted her head curiously and asked, “Young Master, why aren’t you continuing? Isn’t the next part the exciting part?”
Suppressing a sigh, Chen Yin begrudgingly read on:
“‘The tea instantly bubbled like a tidal wave, its color deepened to a vibrant red, and it grew increasingly smooth and soft. The teapot’s boiling song echoed through the night, lingering like a melody in the air.’
‘One pot of tea, one night of savoring. By the next morning, the tea was gone, the guests had left, and the merchant gifted the powdered ball… as a keepsake.’”
Finishing the first story felt like a Herculean task. Chen Yin slumped back as though he had just fought a top-tier cultivator from the Taiqing Realm, completely drained.
“See, Young Master? Isn’t it fascinating?”
Luo Luo’s small face was flushed with excitement, her eyes sparkling as she exclaimed, “I can’t believe the mortal world has such interesting little things! A single bean can make tea boil instantly and make the flavor richer and more aromatic.”
“That merchant was so dashing, too, leaving behind such a treasure at the tavern as a souvenir. Do you think the innkeeper will use it as a surprise for the next guest?”
Hearing this, Chen Yin could no longer hold back.
“...Luo Luo, how about this? I’ll go out and buy you some supper.”
“Huh?” Luo Luo blinked in confusion, twiddling her fingers. “But I’m not hungry… I just want to hear Young Master continue the story.”
“I’m afraid if I keep reading, I might lose my composure and flip that Rouge Pavilion upside down,” Chen Yin said with utter seriousness.
Luo Luo: “...?”
Seeing her puzzled expression, Chen Yin struggled internally about how to explain the story’s true meaning to this innocent little fox girl.
“Ahem. Luo Luo, listen carefully. This story isn’t really about tea.”
Taking a deep breath, Chen Yin decided to educate her properly. “This ‘tea-tasting’ isn’t about drinking tea.”
“The tea… it refers to…”
Luo Luo watched as Chen Yin, a grown man, scratched his head awkwardly, fumbling for the right words. Gradually, her face turned beet red as she began to grasp the implications.
“‘Tea-tasting’ actually means… that kind of thing?”
Chen Yin nodded solemnly.
“And… and that small object the merchant took out…” Luo Luo’s voice was barely audible, almost too soft to hear.
Chen Yin’s expression shifted multiple times, yet he still couldn’t muster the courage to say the words “vibrating toy.”
As Luo Luo slowly pieced things together, she suddenly realized why the book had seemed so odd—why people always drank tea at night, and why they would drink tea all night long.
Sometimes, multiple people drank tea together, or one person would drink several pots of tea.
Now that she understood, Luo Luo wanted nothing more than to crawl into a hole and never come out.
The two sat stiffly, neither daring to speak.
The flickering candlelight cast wavering shadows on their awkward faces, filling the room with an unbearable tension.
Chen Yin coughed lightly and started, “Well—”
Before he could finish, Luo Luo turned to him with tearful, reddened eyes.
“I… I can’t believe I brought Young Master such a terrible book…”
“Now it’s over. Young Master must think I’m a shameless and indecent woman.”
“Uh, not exactly—” Chen Yin began to explain, but before he could finish, Luo Luo let out a shrill cry, “I’m so embarrassed, I can’t live anymore!”
With that, she vanished into thin air, leaving no trace behind.
Chen Yin stared awkwardly at the copy of Tales of the Rouge Pavilion in his hands. After a long pause, he let out a heavy sigh.
—It seems that comprehensive sex education is an urgent matter, even in this world.
