Chapter 58: You’ll Need to Spend a Lifetime Paying Me Back
Chapter 58: You’ll Need to Spend a Lifetime Paying Me Back
It was early morning, just as the mortal world was waking up.
Luo Qiaoqiao stormed into the inn where Chen Yin was staying. Without bothering to ask the waiter, she followed Chen Yin’s aura directly to his room upstairs. Without hesitation, she kicked open the door.
"Chen Yin! I found the information you asked me to inquire about! Now hurry up and reward your big sister—"
Her words trailed off as her expression froze in place.
On the bed, two figures were sound asleep—one big, one small. Aside from Chen Yin, there was a fluffy-eared fox girl nestled snugly in his arms.
The girl wore a loose, blue-green dress that had bunched up from her restless sleeping position. Her disheveled appearance left her fair shoulders and a significant portion of her pale collarbone exposed. Her youthful, adorable face still bore traces of innocence. Her rosy lips puckered slightly as she drooled a little, leaving a small damp spot on the pillow.
Chen Yin, on the other hand, appeared entirely unkempt, hugging the little fox girl like a body pillow, snoring unabashedly.
The sudden noise woke Chen Yin. He rubbed his eyes and sat up. When he saw Luo Qiaoqiao, confusion crossed his face as he asked, “Sister Qiaoqiao? What brings you here—”
Then, as realization dawned on him, his expression grew increasingly awkward.
"Chen Yin."
“…Can I explain?” Chen Yin asked seriously.
“And what if I say no?”
“Well… could you not punch me in the face?”
To that, Luo Qiaoqiao thoughtfully planted a kick squarely on his face.
<+>
“…So, that’s the situation.”
Half an hour later, Chen Yin sat at the table, nursing a swollen red cheek, sighing as he explained, “She’s just a Fox Spirit servant I happened to take in. That’s all.”
“It’s not what you’re thinking, and there’s no need to drag me to the authorities. I’m seriously not into little girls.”
Luo Qiaoqiao crossed her legs and casually poured tea from the teapot. After taking a long sip, she wiped her mouth and squinted at him skeptically.
“A Fox Spirit servant? How do you keep stumbling into luck like this? Picking up such a cute little fox girl, just like that?”
“Uh, maybe because I’m handsome?” Chen Yin glanced at her nervously.
The next moment, his other cheek was pinched.
“Ow, ow, ow— Could you go easy on me, Sis?”
Meanwhile, Luo Luo obediently leaned on the edge of the table, her little face turning back and forth to watch the two of them.
Luo Qiaoqiao glared at Chen Yin, then softened her expression as she leaned toward Luo Luo, asking gently, “You’re from the Spirit Clan?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Luo Luo suddenly clung affectionately to Luo Qiaoqiao’s sleeve, swaying it playfully while wagging her tail. Her voice was sweet and coquettish as she said, “Big Sister Qiaoqiao! You’re so pretty!”
“…Huh? You know me?”
“Of course I do! Young Master talks about you all the time on the road.”
Luo Luo’s smile was pure and radiant. “I’ve never seen a girl as beautiful as Big Sister before.”
Her nimble fox ears twitched adorably, her innocent grin lighting up the room, complete with a glimpse of her small sharp teeth. Her fluffy tail swayed behind her as if begging to be petted.
Luo Qiaoqiao’s face immediately softened into a doting smile. “You’re so sweet. Come here, let Big Sister hug you.”
Without hesitation, Luo Luo leaped into Luo Qiaoqiao’s embrace, burying her face into Qiaoqiao’s chest. She let out a soft, playful murmur, “Big Sister Qiaoqiao smells so nice~ Are you wearing the ‘Spring Blossom’ perfume from the Wanxiang Pavilion?”
“Eh? You know about that? I love that scent and its subtle colors.”
The two beauties—one big, one small—hit it off instantly. Holding hands, they sat together chatting warmly, as though they were sisters reunited after years apart.
Especially Luo Qiaoqiao, who seemed utterly charmed by the adorable little fox girl. She couldn’t resist frequently pulling Luo Luo into her arms, one hand idly stroking her soft fur.
Luo Luo would occasionally nuzzle against Luo Qiaoqiao’s chest, then mischievously turn her head and wink at Chen Yin.
—Jealous?
—Not jealous at all.
Sipping his tea, Chen Yin shrugged indifferently from the side.
This must be the natural charm of the Fox Spirit Clan, he mused. Even someone as domineering as Luo Qiaoqiao couldn’t resist Luo Luo’s overwhelmingly cute fox ears.
Clearly, the reason he had ended up cuddling with her while telling bedtime stories last night wasn’t his fault. It was because Luo Luo was simply too soft and comforting to hold. Yep. That must be it.
As the two women’s conversation seemed to stretch endlessly, Chen Yin finally found a chance to interject:
“Alright, alright, you can talk later. Let’s get to business first.”
“Since you came here in such a hurry this morning, I assume there’s progress on the information I asked you to investigate?”
Luo Qiaoqiao finally remembered the purpose of her visit. Her smile faded as she grew serious and said:
"I went back and asked my father. You guessed right—what happened at the Changli Palace years ago was a major incident."
"However, since most of the information was sealed, only top-level cultivators, like my parents, know some scattered clues."
"Do you know who suppressed the information?"
"...It was none other than the Misty Spirit Sect," she said slowly.
Chen Yin fell silent.
As expected.
No surprises here.
This explained everything—why Xiang'er wanted to wipe out the entire Misty Spirit Sect and all the strange happenings at the previous Heavenly Beauty Summit.
"Strictly speaking, this incident counts as a scandal for the Misty Spirit Sect."
Luo Qiaoqiao continued softly, "Back then, the Changli Palace was a mid-sized sect located on an idyllic immortal mountain in the southern regions. They stayed away from worldly disputes."
"It's said they were one of the rare sects with good relations with ordinary people. They often helped the villagers at the foot of the mountain without putting on airs, earning them an excellent reputation in the South."
"However… According to my father, the Changli Palace’s sect leader seemed to have accidentally obtained a rare and valuable treasure—a treasure the Misty Spirit Sect had been searching for, for a long time."
At this point, Luo Qiaoqiao glanced hesitantly at Chen Yin.
Chen Yin, expressionless, said calmly, "Go on."
"Not long after that, the Misty Spirit Sect suddenly received reports of a demonic cultivator causing chaos. Tracing the source, they pinned it on the Changli Palace."
"And then, the rest is what we all know."
Luo Qiaoqiao spread her hands. "The Misty Spirit Sect publicly claimed that the Changli Palace’s leader was secretly practicing demonic cultivation. When his deeds were exposed, he went berserk from inner demon backlash, killing everyone in his sect indiscriminately. It was only after great effort that the Misty Spirit Sect’s elders managed to eliminate him."
"But that was entirely the Misty Spirit Sect's version of the story. After all, the only ones present at the time, besides the exterminated disciples of Changli Palace, were members of the Misty Spirit Sect."
"That's all my father knows." Luo Qiaoqiao, parched, took another sip of tea before curling her lips. "There were so many suspicious points in this incident. At the time, several sects privately questioned the truth behind it."
"But the Misty Spirit Sect was at its peak then. Few sects were willing to risk openly opposing them over baseless suspicions."
"This event became a taboo topic in the world of immortal cultivation."
"Oh, by the way," she added, "if my father remembers correctly, the leader of the Changli Palace was named Yin Changli."
After hearing this, Chen Yin sank into a long silence.
Finally, he let out a soft sigh.
"…I see. Now I understand."
"Thank you." This time, he bowed solemnly to Luo Qiaoqiao.
Caught off guard by his seriousness, Luo Qiaoqiao stammered awkwardly, "W-why are you being so polite? We’re close friends, aren’t we? It’s not a big deal—don’t make it so formal…"
"A favor is a favor."
Chen Yin spoke calmly. "If it weren’t for you, Sister Qiaoqiao, it would’ve taken me much more effort to gather this information myself."
Embarrassed by the praise, Luo Qiaoqiao blushed and lowered her head slightly, murmuring softly, "Well… is there a reward for me?"
Chen Yin coughed awkwardly. "Uh, as long as it’s not harmful to my health, I’ll consider it."
"Then… how about staying at my place for a few days?"
"That definitely sounds harmful to my health!"
Luo Qiaoqiao pouted and protested, "What’s that supposed to mean? Are you implying I’m some predatory old witch? Do you think I’m going to drain you dry?"
"…"
Chen Yin cleared his throat, quickly changing the subject. "It’s not about that. It’s just that I have something important to do next."
"Like what?"
Chen Yin hesitated. If he told Luo Qiaoqiao the truth, she would definitely insist on tagging along.
If that happened, it could expose Xiang'er’s identity, making things even more complicated.
So, he made up an excuse. "My master is injured. I need to go west to find some of her old friends and bring back healing pills for her."
Hearing this, Luo Qiaoqiao couldn’t say much more. She lowered her head in disappointment.
"Ah… so we’re parting ways again…"
"It’s okay. You can rest at home for a couple of days," Chen Yin said gently. "When I’m done, I’ll come to your place to visit you."
"Really?" Luo Qiaoqiao asked, her eyes lighting up. "You’ll visit Tianluo Sect?"
"Mm." Chen Yin nodded.
—He had questions about his master that he wanted to ask Luo Qiaoqiao’s mother as well.
"Alright, hurry up and take care of your business, then."
Luo Qiaoqiao, always spirited, grinned at him and turned to leave. But just as she reached the door, she suddenly spun around and walked back.
"Nope, I went through so much trouble. If I don’t collect some interest, it feels unfair."
Chen Yin froze, a bad premonition rising in his heart. Before he could react, Luo Qiaoqiao’s red dress was already in front of him.
She hooked her slender finger under his chin, stood on tiptoe, and bit down hard on his lips.
Even Luo Luo, watching from the side, was stunned by Luo Qiaoqiao’s boldness. Blushing furiously, she covered her face with her hands, though curiosity got the better of her, and she peeked through her fingers.
Luo Qiaoqiao kissed him deeply for a long time before finally pulling back, her face slightly flushed but her eyes sparkling brightly as she looked at him.
"This counts as interest," she said, nodding in satisfaction.
"…That’s just the interest?" Chen Yin swallowed hard.
"Of course. The real reward won’t be this cheap."
With a light, airy step, Luo Qiaoqiao skipped to the door. Her fiery red dress swayed with her graceful movements as she turned to flash him a dazzling smile.
"As for the real reward—"
"—you’ll need to spend a lifetime paying me back." She beamed as she spoke.
