Chapter 61: Bullying Can Be Addictive
Chapter 61: Bullying Can Be Addictive
The direction the little girl pointed to did indeed lead to an inn.
However, the inn's conditions were even worse than expected. The innkeeper couldn’t even provide food.
Fortunately, both Chen Yin and Shen Shuanglian were cultivators, so even if they didn’t eat, they wouldn’t starve. Chen Yin simply booked two rooms and went upstairs.
"Just two rooms? What about Miss Luo Luo?"
"She’ll sleep in the second room," Chen Yin said, pointing to the room next door.
Shen Shuanglian blinked, her cheeks gradually turning red a moment later.
"… Can’t I have a room of my own?"
"Saving money," Chen Yin replied calmly, without batting an eye.
Shen Shuanglian: "…"
After entering the room, Chen Yin swept away some of the dust before collapsing onto the bed.
"Ah, after walking all day, I’m exhausted. Finally, a place to rest," he said, propping one leg over the other and humming softly.
Shen Shuanglian stood by the table, looking uneasy, unsure whether to sit or remain standing.
"What’s wrong? Doesn’t Senior Sister get tired standing? You’re welcome to sit in my lap, you know."
Her thin skin couldn’t handle such teasing. Flustered, Shen Shuanglian turned her head slightly and quietly changed the subject:
"By the way, what about Miss Luo Luo? You said something to her earlier, and she left. She hasn’t returned yet."
"Oh, she’s out looking for food." Chen Yin waved nonchalantly. "That girl can eat a lot. If I can’t keep her fed, she has to find food on her own."
—In truth, Chen Yin had sent her ahead to scout the demonic faction’s headquarters and gauge the situation.
After all, it was the demonic faction’s base; being better prepared couldn’t hurt.
Shen Shuanglian stared blankly for a moment before murmuring softly, "She’s… a pretty cute girl."
"You shouldn’t bully her too much."
"Hmm? Which kind of bullying are you referring to, Senior Sister?"
Shen Shuanglian instantly fell silent.
Seeing her hesitant, conflicted expression, Chen Yin couldn’t help but find it amusing. He added leisurely, "I wonder if how I treat you counts as bullying."
"If you weren’t bullying me, you wouldn’t have only booked two rooms," she retorted.
"But you didn’t object, did you?"
Her face flushed, Shen Shuanglian lowered her head slightly.
"I-I could share a room with Luo Luo," she said softly.
"That would be inconsiderate," Chen Yin replied with a smile. "Senior Sister is used to the spacious, luxurious rooms in the main sect. Asking you to squeeze into a small room with Luo Luo… even I’d feel bad."
"Then… why don’t you and Luo Luo share a room?"
Chen Yin thought for a moment, then nodded thoughtfully. "That makes sense. Senior Sister truly is clever."
"Then it’s settled. This spacious bed will be all yours," he said with a cheeky grin.
Shen Shuanglian bit her lip lightly, not saying a word.
"… Jealous?" Chen Yin teased.
"… No."
"If you really told me you were jealous, I might consider comforting you," he said with a mischievous smile.
Shen Shuanglian finally looked up, her clear eyes revealing a well-hidden hint of grievance.
"I’m not jealous. But could you please stop bullying me?" she said softly.
"No, bullying you is really addictive," Chen Yin replied, propping his head up with his hand, still grinning at her.
Shen Shuanglian turned her head slightly, avoiding his gaze.
"Let’s talk after we settle in," she said softly, trying to redirect the conversation.
"Fine, let’s talk about something serious," Chen Yin said, his tone turning more serious. "Have you noticed any signs of demonic cultivators nearby?"
Shen Shuanglian shook her head.
"Although the sect mission mentioned demonic cultivators causing trouble, I searched all over Xianyun Prefecture and didn’t hear of any such incidents," Shen Shuanglian said.
"Then stop looking," Chen Yin replied decisively.
"Huh? Why?"
"You’ll alert them."
Chen Yin gazed calmly out the window. "The demonic cultivators here may be more numerous than you think. By asking around, you’ve probably already exposed yourself."
"How do you know that?" Shen Shuanglian hesitated for a moment, then asked, "And I still don’t know—why did you come to Xianyun Prefecture?"
Chen Yin thought for a long time before answering slowly.
"…I’m looking for someone."
"Who?"
"The ‘Yin Mengwan’ fairy you fought against earlier," he said.
Shen Shuanglian froze, her tone growing hesitant. "Why are you looking for her?"
"She might know something about the Changli Palace," Chen Yin said seriously. "I need to know everything."
"So that’s why you saved her at the Heavenly Beauty Summit earlier?" Shen Shuanglian asked. "But she… she might be from the demonic faction."
"I know. That’s why I came here," Chen Yin shrugged.
Shen Shuanglian still looked uneasy. "Interacting with the demonic faction can be dangerous."
"You should know by now—I’m not weak," Chen Yin replied confidently.
"I know you’re not weak, but…" Shen Shuanglian trailed off, unsure how to express her thoughts.
She couldn’t bear to imagine what Chen Yin’s reaction would be if he learned that Fairy Yin Mengwan was actually his own junior sister.
—How devastated he would be.
She opened her mouth to speak but ultimately couldn’t bring herself to reveal the truth. Lowering her gaze, she remained silent.
"It’s fine. I’ll handle this myself," Chen Yin said softly. "This place might not be safe. You should leave tomorrow."
"But—"
Before she could argue, Chen Yin interrupted her. "The sect only tasked you with clearing out demonic cultivators. Since you haven’t found any, you should naturally return."
"Don’t complicate things unnecessarily—it’s not good for you."
Seeing his firm attitude, Shen Shuanglian could only murmur a low acknowledgment.
"Then… be careful."
"Don’t worry."
Chen Yin’s usual carefree smile returned. "I’m really afraid of dying, you know."
"If I ever meet someone I can’t beat, I’ll run faster than anyone else."
Shen Shuanglian stared at him, still a bit dazed, lost in her thoughts.
"Alright, it’s really getting late," Chen Yin said, glancing out the window. "No need to wait for Luo Luo. Rest for the night. Head back to the sect tomorrow."
Hearing this, Shen Shuanglian froze for a moment, then her face flushed with embarrassment again.
"Um, w-we were just… treating injuries last time, right?"
Chen Yin tilted his head, puzzled. "Yeah, why?"
"I-I’m not injured anymore," she stammered.
"Oh, I see…"
Chen Yin let out an exaggerated sigh of regret. "Ah, I guess there’s no need for treatment tonight, then."
"That being the case, Senior Sister, get some rest early. The other half of the bed is all yours. Don’t worry—I’m a gentleman and would never bother you."
With that, he flopped down on the bed, closing his eyes as he began to snore.
Left standing awkwardly at the bedside, Shen Shuanglian hesitated for a long time, unsure of what to do.
Chen Yin kept up his pretense of sleep, but after a while, he heard a voice so faint it was almost inaudible.
"W-what if…"
"…it relapses?" she murmured, her timid gaze tinged with a rosy hue and a hint of wavering uncertainty.
Chen Yin immediately flipped upright like a startled fish, casually snuffing out the candle.
"Then this divine healer must give Senior Sister Fairy a thorough examination."
