Chapter 64: Committing a Crime and Trying to Escape, Huh?
Chapter 64: Committing a Crime and Trying to Escape, Huh?
Blood gushed from Chen Yin's chest.
The dagger was imbued with a violent, domineering spiritual energy that wreaked havoc within his body.
Chen Yin could almost feel his life slipping away bit by bit.
Yet, his face remained devoid of much expression. He simply lowered his head to look at the tip of the dagger, then turned to the shadowy figure. After a long pause, he finally squeezed out a sentence:
“...Who the hell are you?”
“Who I am doesn’t matter. All you need to know is that you’re someone who deserves to die.”
“Wait, but I don’t even know you!”
Chen Yin’s expression turned a bit aggrieved as he muttered, “Is the demonic faction’s headquarters this… ‘inclusive’ these days?”
“Talk less, and you’ll suffer less,” the cold and arrogant female voice responded. “Just die quietly.”
With that, she pulled out the dagger and turned to leave with an air of nonchalance.
But she hadn’t taken more than two steps when she suddenly stopped, sensing something off. She turned her head back.
To her surprise, Chen Yin was not only alive but was staring forlornly at his bloodstained clothing with a look of regret, sighing deeply.
“Hm? Not dead?”
The shadow hesitated for a moment before swiftly lunging forward again. This time, the dagger struck directly at Chen Yin’s lower dantian.
Squelch. The sound of blade piercing flesh was unmistakable as fresh blood gushed out again.
The two of them froze in this position for a moment.
The shadow looked up and met Chen Yin’s gaze.
“...Why aren’t you dead yet?”
“...Do I look like I’d know?”
The shadow’s beautiful eyes furrowed in frustration, and she moved to strike again, stabbing and pulling the dagger in quick succession.
Stab. Pull.
Over and over again.
By the time his clothing was nearly shredded into rags, Chen Yin finally sighed and spoke:
“Seriously, Miss, if you want to practice slicing meat, couldn’t you find a butcher’s shop? Practicing on a living person is just plain cruel. What if you accidentally hurt the flowers and grass around us?”
“And can’t you at least stab with some aesthetic sense? Look at this bloody mess—it's already too graphic to describe or broadcast. Even a mosaic wouldn’t cover it!”
The shadow’s temper seemed to flare. She withdrew the dagger, gathered her spiritual energy, and lunged with the blade like a dragon, aiming straight for Chen Yin’s forehead.
But this time, the dagger didn’t strike.
Instead, it was caught between two fingers, held firmly in place.
“Really? Got addicted to stabbing, did you?”
Chen Yin glared at her in annoyance. “Enough already. Do you think I don’t have a temper?”
“This is impossible!”
The shadow’s voice now held a trace of panic. “Why won’t you die? Are you also a Chosen?”
“Chosen?” Chen Yin blinked. “What’s that supposed to be?”
The two of them froze, staring each other down.
“...System,” the shadow called out urgently in her mind.
“What’s going on? Isn’t he supposed to be a Chosen?”
[He’s not,] the system replied, equally baffled. [What’s happening? This person isn’t even in the storyline records! I’ve never seen anything like this!]
“So what do we do?”
[Uh… retreat, maybe?]
The shadow tugged at the dagger in an attempt to free it, but it remained firmly pinched between Chen Yin’s fingers. Gritting her teeth, she finally let go of the blade and turned to flee.
But after only a few steps, she suddenly collapsed to the ground with a muffled groan as intense pain surged through her meridians.
“What… What’s happening?” The shadow’s face twisted with shock as she internally examined her blocked meridians, which were now sealed by a mysterious sword energy. “System, hurry and undo it!”
[I can’t!]
The system cursed. [Damn it, what kind of freak is this guy? Why can’t I override it even with system powers?]
Meanwhile, Chen Yin had leisurely walked over. Although his chest was bare, with his clothing reduced to tatters, the wounds on his body had eerily healed.
“Stabbing someone without a word and then trying to flee? Things don’t work that way,” he said, his tone laced with mockery. “And what’s with this mask nonsense? Let me take a look. Don’t be shy.”
As he spoke, he casually reached out and removed the covering from her face.
Beneath it was the cold and beautiful face of a woman. Her sharp brows and icy gaze carried a faint trace of killing intent. Her features were stunningly refined, exuding an air of aloofness and pride.
Her pale complexion was almost sickly, as if she had not seen sunlight for years. Her slender, graceful figure radiated a sense of agility and elegance.
Still, quite a rare beauty.
Chen Yin gave the woman a cursory glance before picking up the object she had worn on her face to examine it.
—It was a mask, somewhat similar to his own.
This intrigued him. He immediately leaned closer and asked, “Where did you get this thing?”
The woman didn’t respond. Her beautiful eyes were filled with anger as she turned her head away.
“Not going to say anything, huh?”
Chen Yin grinned mischievously, rubbing his hands together. “Well then, don’t blame me, a so-called ‘demonic villain,’ for being ruthless.”
With that, he hoisted the woman onto his shoulder, glanced down the empty corridor, and quickly found an unoccupied room where he tied her up securely and tossed her inside.
The moment the door closed, Chen Yin deftly began removing his clothes.
His skillful movements left the woman dumbfounded for a moment before she erupted with fury and alarm:
“What are you doing?! Are you some kind of lecherous scoundrel seeking death?”
“What am I doing?”
Chen Yin grinned wickedly as he approached her. “Obviously—”
“—changing clothes.”
The woman froze.
“Well, you’re the one who slashed my clothes to pieces.”
Chen Yin picked up his ruined, tattered garment and grumbled, “I didn’t pack many clothes for this trip, and this was one of my favorites. Now it’s completely ruined because of you.”
“If I didn’t have more important things to do right now, I might just tear up your clothes in return.”
The woman glared at him furiously, her eyes practically devouring him alive.
Chen Yin casually grabbed a robe belonging to a demonic faction disciple and put it on, restoring his appearance to normal. He then said lightly, “Stay here. I’ll come back for you later, got it?”
“Try not to make too much noise and alert the other demonic cultivators. Unlike me, they probably won’t be as gentle.”
Ignoring the seething emotions in the woman’s eyes, Chen Yin tied her up tightly into a bundle and stuffed her into a large, empty storage chest.
After ensuring the hallway outside was clear, he whispered a few instructions to Luoluo to keep watch, then hurried back to the kitchen to brew tea.

In the Saintess’s chamber, Yu Xiang sat at a table, her brow furrowed with displeasure.
“...It seems there’s no avoiding this Nether Sacrifice.”
“This disgusting ceremonial event—why do they insist I must attend? I really don’t understand what that Dao Lord is thinking.”
[Please, my dear ancestor, stop causing trouble,] the system begged beside her ear. [It’s just a festival. If you don’t want to watch, you can always take a nap or something]
[Just don’t provoke the demonic faction any further, or I really won’t be able to handle it]
Yu Xiang didn’t respond, merely letting out a cold hum as she muttered to herself with a frown, “Where’s my tea? Why hasn’t Zhao Han delivered it yet?”
Just then, there was a light knock at the door.
“Come in.”
The door opened, and Chen Yin entered, bowing respectfully as he carried a teapot. In a low voice, he said, “Your tea, Saintess.”
Chen Yin was careful not to reveal any flaws in his behavior, stealing only quick glances at Yu Xiang from the corner of his eye.
Today, she still wore her usual green silk gown, but the gentle and tender demeanor she had shown when interacting with him was completely gone. Her expression carried a faint coldness, as if she were keeping everyone at a distance.
Still, she looked well. From what Chen Yin could tell, she wasn’t doing too badly in the demonic faction.
Yu Xiang took the tea lightly, her tone carrying a hint of displeasure. “Why is the tea so late?”
“It’s my fault. I wasn’t careful with the fire when brewing the first pot, and it boiled dry. That’s why it took a little longer.”
Chen Yin did his best to lower his voice, not wanting Yu Xiang to catch anything unusual.
Only after Yu Xiang took a sip of the tea did she finally say, “The tea is acceptable. Go make another pot.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Chen Yin bowed and turned to leave, but before he could take more than a few steps, a chilling voice stopped him.
“Wait.”
Chen Yin paused, then turned back with an impassive expression. “What are your orders, Saintess?”
“Who are you? Why have I never seen you at the headquarters before?” Yu Xiang frowned. “And where is Zhao Han? Where did he go?”
“I was previously stationed at the Xiang City branch. I came here with the branch master for the Nether Sacrifice and have been helping out under Brother Zhao Han’s command,” Chen Yin replied smoothly, his tone obsequious and flawless.
Yu Xiang narrowed her eyes slightly. After a moment, she nodded faintly. “Xiang City…”
“What was Xiang City like before you left?”
“The branch has been under lockdown for a long time. I came to the headquarters to avoid trouble. Is there something specific you wish to know, Saintess?”
“I was wondering if you’ve seen… Hmm…”
Yu Xiang hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. “Never mind. It’s nothing.”
“You may leave.”
“Yes.” Chen Yin nodded and respectfully exited the room.
Once he was gone, Yu Xiang sighed softly, a trace of melancholy in her expression.
“I wonder… Is Senior Brother still in Xiang City? Or has he already returned to the mountain?”
[Or maybe,] the system chimed in mischievously, [he’s off having fun with some other girl?]
The system expected Yu Xiang to lash out as usual, but she simply lowered her head silently, her eyes filled with sorrow.
—Senior Brother.
Even if there are other girls by your side, it’s okay.
As long as you’re happy.
If you could occasionally remember that you once had a little junior sister named Xiang’er...
That would be enough.
