Chapter 29:
Now, finally, I can briefly introduce the key organizations in the community: Mutual Aid Teams.
Although the mutual aid team was nominally formed by the neighborhood committee, in reality, most of its members were pre-apocalyptic property managers, migrant workers in charge of renovating the community's north gate, and some naive and gullible students. Most of them were strong men, and all possessed good skills, so they had no problem facing dozens of zombies when they gathered together.
The reason Aunt Li was chosen as the leader of the mutual aid team was mainly because her WeChat group had the largest number of members, making it easier for her to contact surviving residents and facilitate her governance.
However, what Aunt Li didn't know was that the reason she could boast in the small group and no one cared was simply because the people in the mutual aid team were too lazy to pay attention to her; Everyone knew that only the highest-ranking member of the team was qualified to become the leader in the future.
And Aunt Li? She was just an ignorant fool. This group of people never took her seriously.
Hey, did you see him? He's in there...
The scene shifts to Unit 12 of the residential complex. Outside the building, a group of more than a dozen people lurks on the other side of the wall, waiting for the opportunity to attack. Strange rodent sounds continue to be heard from the building. A brave man looks out the window toward the house and sees a tall, red-faced zombie grabbing the woman and biting her furiously.
"Gurgling..."
The man gulped nervously, beads of cold sweat dripping from his forehead. The room was a mess. The woman's body was completely soaked in blood and in tatters. The human-like monster was grabbing her internal organs, tearing at her flesh and blood, constantly eating her, and stuffing it into its mouth. (The scene looked extremely bloody!)
But the strange thing is that, even after witnessing such a horrific scene, this group of people didn't back down. On the contrary, they all seemed excited.
The reason is very simple. These people can foresee that whoever manages to grab the monster's head will be able to rise quickly and become the leader of the entire community. Success and fame will come today!
"Brother Liu, this guy seems difficult to deal with. What should we do?"
"We need someone to act as bait..."
Several members of the work team whispered to each other, and a flash of cruelty flashed in the eyes of the man called Brother Liu; his full name was Liu Ming, and he was the foreman of the construction team before the end of the world. He was tall and strong, with thick skin and flesh. He held a steel pipe in his hand and had a murderous look, that of a ruthless man.
As he spoke, Liu Ming looked at the nearest college student. There was a clear and foolish light in his eyes, so he quickly ordered in a deep voice:
You, go and throw a rock to lure him away!
"Ha?"
They both squatted under the window. For fear of disturbing the zombies, they could only speak in low voices. The boy was indignant upon hearing Liu Ming's order and asked on the spot:
"Why me? Why don't you go?"
"Oh, I'm going?"
Liu Ming sneered and looked the young man up and down with a fierce gaze:
Aren't you students and property managers brilliant? You rush to take care of all the confiscated supplies? What? Are you afraid to intervene at the crucial moment? Cowards!
"Itú!"
Hearing this, the boy's face flushed with anger. At that moment, he didn't care if the zombies discovered him, and he shouted at Liu Ming:
Obviously, you migrant workers are dishonest! You wasted food and stole supplies, that's why we're here!
"Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
The child didn't finish his words because the middle-aged man from the property management behind him grabbed his arm and gestured to silence him.
Seeing him like this, everyone was startled and quickly closed their mouths and lowered their bodies. Time passed second by second, the atmosphere was eerily silent, and one could even vaguely hear the rapid breathing of the people around him, which showed how nervous they were at that moment.
But luckily, everything went well. The zombies inside didn't notice the noise outside. After a brief pause, they went back to eating.
"Chewing—"
After hearing the sound of eating, everyone couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.
The middle-aged man who had just been holding the child glanced at Liu Ming with his peripheral vision and then said to Liu Ming in a slightly contemptuous tone:
"Chief Yan is very brave. Please come in."
"Snort."
It turned out that this man was the manager of the property management team and a very prestigious member of the mutual aid team. The future captain would likely be either him or Liu Ming, so Mr. Yan had to deliberately show off to the team members.
Regarding Liu Ming's evil smile, Chairman Yan simply snorted coldly and ignored it. He picked up the rock from the ground, stood up, pointed it at the zombies in the house, and threw it hard.
Boom—-
The rock hit the zombie's head hard, emitting a dull sound. The tall mutant zombie was stunned for a moment, then slowly turned his head.
Roar—--
In an instant, a shrill roar resounded throughout the unit!
Mr. Yan, who had seemed so righteous a moment ago, suddenly changed his expression and began to sweat with fear. The sinister roar didn't sound like it was human. Instead, it sounded like a beast crawling out of hell, ready to kill in this community!
Everyone in the mutual aid team gasped when they saw this, but Chief Yan reacted quickly, retreating while shouting to the others, "Quick! Prepare to kill him!"
As he shouted, General Yan had already run several meters. As soon as the zombies came out of the window, the team members ambushed on both sides would rush in to kill them!
However, things don't always go as smoothly as we imagine.
A pair of sharp claws covered in blood clung to the window ledge. Before it appeared, the brutal and bloody aura had already completely terrified everyone lurking outside.
Then, the zombie's body gradually emerged. His bloodied face no longer showed any human features, and his protruding teeth were as hideous as those of the aliens in the movies. Although he was only two meters tall, upon closer inspection, his muscles were so dense they were repulsive, as if they might burst through his skin at any moment!
"He's not a zombie at all, he's a pure monster!"
At that moment, almost everyone had this idea in their minds!
Everyone was deeply shocked by the sight of the monster. Even Liu Ming broke out in a cold sweat and was so scared his legs almost gave out.
But the interesting thing is...
The mutant zombie didn't notice the other prey, and its gaze was fixed on Mr. Yan, who threw the rock at it. As soon as it left the window, it lay on the ground and crawled two steps toward Mr. Yan like a spider.
There was no trace of humanity in those blood-red eyes, only the desire to kill and hunt prey!
Suddenly, it pounced! Mr. Yan saw a black shadow approaching in an instant,
so fast it was shocking!
Why are you still standing there? Come on!
