Chapter 11: Late-Night Magic Lessons and Deepening Love
In the hall, snowflakes fluttered everywhere.
In just over ten seconds, the heavy snow had already gone past everyone's knees.
The cold was like a ghoul that had attached itself to their bones, making everyone's faces pale. They looked up at the almost divine scene, their eyelashes already covered in frost. An icy chill slid down their throats.
"Is this magic? Isn't this on par with God?"
"A combination of beauty and cold, right here in this library!"
"Mom, I'm so cold, but this is so beautiful!"
"If I told my classmates about this, they'd be so jealous!"
Even though the cold made them shiver, no one left. This was a scene they would never forget. A flash of light suddenly went off, making everyone snap out of their daze. They quickly took out their phones and cameras, their trembling hands clicking the shutter repeatedly.
"Hey! Look over here!"
A deep, magnetic voice drew everyone's attention. The Cloak of Levitation floated in the air with Stephen. He snapped his fingers, and a flash of white light filled the library. The tourists closed their eyes and collapsed in the snow. The only ones left standing were Cassius and the sorcerers of the Sanctum.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to kill them to keep them quiet?" Cassius, who was admiring his own handiwork, looked at the fallen tourists and then at Stephen.
"Don't worry, it's just a simple sleeping spell," Stephen said, looking down at Cassius, who was standing in the middle of the library. "Let them have a good sleep, and it'll all be a dream!"
"I thought you were just jealous of my talent and wanted to kill me," Cassius said calmly with a teasing tone. He knew what kind of person Stephen was and wasn't afraid.
"I'm jealous of you?" Stephen's face darkened, and he gritted his teeth. "This is child's play for me. You're still way too far behind, kid!"
"Alright, Stephen, cut the act!" Wong interrupted impatiently, looking at Cassius with a wary expression. "Who are you?"
Even though this young man was incredibly talented, Wong would not let his guard down until he knew who he was.
"Me?" Cassius said nonchalantly, putting the magic book back on the shelf with his back to them. "Cassius, just an ordinary person!"
Ding!
[You have learned your first magical spell!]
[Reward: Chthon Scroll (Fragment)!]
Huh? The Chthon Scroll? Isn't that the predecessor of the Darkhold? Cassius never expected to get this as a reward.
"An ordinary person?" Wong snorted and said, "Or a wealthy businessman? An entrepreneur? A mountain climber? Or a shooting champion?"
"I can't believe the great Sorcerer knows who I am so quickly..." Cassius said, turning his head to look at Wong. He stopped talking the moment he saw Wong reading from a phone. Is it really okay for a Sorcerer to use such a mundane method?
Wong looked up at Cassius's surprised expression and smiled. "I think I saw you in the newspaper once."
"You probably have..." Cassius nodded slowly, composing himself as Wong put his phone back in his pocket. After he got the system, he had been looking for more exciting rewards. So he had tried many thrilling activities, like wingsuit flying, and was already bored of them.
Stephen, who was listening to their conversation, couldn't help but twitch his mouth. The list of accomplishments was so long it made him dizzy. Not only did he lose to him in talent, but his life experiences were on a completely different level!
Cough, cough... Stephen put a fist to his mouth and cleared his throat. "You are very gifted, but magic is not as easy as you think."
Wong saw that Stephen was about to show off again and quietly stepped aside.
"Is it hard?" Cassius looked at Stephen with a teasing smile.
Stephen, with his hands behind his back, said calmly, "Yes. To become a good sorcerer, you must have an excellent mentor!" He then waved his right hand, and a gentle breeze appeared, lifting the snow in the library. The snow looked like a silvery curtain floating around the library. As the snow rose, it slowly disappeared. In the blink of an eye, the snow that had covered the library was gone.
After doing all that, Stephen put his hands behind his back again and raised his chin slightly, his face showing a calm countenance. It was a very impressive show. But Cassius just nodded slowly and said, "Oh."
He had to admit, Stephen was indeed worthy of being the Sorcerer Supreme's successor; he had some real skills.
"Don't you want me to be your mentor?" Stephen's composure almost broke when he heard Cassius's flat response. No way. I just put on a big show, and all he can say is "Oh"?
"Nope. I have to go now!" Cassius shook his head. He had just received a Cthon Scroll. He had to go back and study it. That thing was on the same level as the Book of the Vishanti.
"Hmm?!" Stephen was taken aback. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. Wasn't he supposed to beg him for guidance? But Cassius was actually turning around and walking toward the door.
"Don't go!" Stephen said in a hurried tone. "You really don't want to become a sorcerer under me?" This was a once-in-a-lifetime genius! It would be a huge waste if he left now!
"I don't," Cassius shook his head without a second thought. "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about what happened today."
He would have to be crazy to go to a snowy mountain and suffer with them. He would rather go back to his darling Wanda for some deepening of their relationship.
Stephen was about to run after Cassius when Wong grabbed him.
"Mr. Cassius, if you ever want to learn magic, you're always welcome here!"
Cassius paused, nodded seriously, and then left.
After Cassius left, Stephen still hadn't recovered.
"Stephen, I guess you're not as charismatic as you think," Wong said with a suppressed laugh.
"What does this have to do with my charisma?! He just doesn't want to learn magic!" Stephen insisted, his neck stiff. He was a top-tier genius. If a genius wanted to learn, why would he refuse?
"He stumbled upon it, and he learned it with just one glance." Wong looked at the view outside the window, feeling the lingering cold in the air. "We may have found an unparalleled genius. We need to tell the Ancient One right away!"
"No one can hide anything from the Ancient One," Stephen said with a faint smile. "She probably already knows..."
