Chapter 149: Brutal Beating
Boom!
Without the slightest hesitation, Vilet twisted her waist and hurled a punch backward.
A surging force exploded through the narrow alley in an instant. The terrifying shockwave shattered the ground, sending rubble and stone fragments flying everywhere.”
Yet none of this hindered Zed’s movement or vision. On the contrary, the clouds of dust and debris gave him the perfect environment to operate.
Zed shifted positions in a flash. At some point, his solid-state smoke had already been thrown forward, and several shuriken glowing with blood-red light tore through the air.
Bang!
Vilet immediately brought her hands together, palms out, and slammed forward.
Boom!
The energy wave knocked the shuriken aside—but what Vilet failed to notice was the true killing move hidden beneath those dazzling blades.
Dark shuriken, like shadows themselves, followed closely behind, completely unaffected by the energy turbulence.
Seeing this, Vilet had no choice but to rush forward and confront the shuriken head-on, while simultaneously sending a call for backup through the comm channel.
As Vilet charged in, Zed didn’t hesitate for a moment. His feet shifted, crimson light flaring across his body, and in the blink of an eye—together with the shuriken—he was already in front of her.
Just as Vilet prepared to intercept the shuriken, Zed suddenly dipped low and unleashed a spinning kick that smashed straight into her abdomen.
Bang!
A white shockwave burst outward from the point of impact. Vilet was sent flying by the overwhelming force. As the shuriken were about to strike her, she immediately crossed her arms, an energy shield expanding outward to block the attack.
Whoosh—
“Damn it!”
The next instant, she heard the sound of something tearing through the air from behind. Vilet instantly sensed danger. Just as she was about to turn her head, a figure suddenly rose up from the ground right in front of her.
A fist blade radiating scorching heat shot straight toward her face.
Whoosh—thud—
Zed shifted his footing, flipping twice to evade an attack coming from afar, and in the same instant locked onto its source.
“That was a close one, Vilet.”
Kiwi, wearing a helmet and holding a crossbow, descended from above on a rope.
“Be careful. This guy isn’t even in the same league as those trash mobs from before.”
Vilet stared grimly at Zed, who was now standing upright, casually twisting his neck.
“Yeah, I can tell. Just from his presence and stance alone, he feels terrifyingly strong.”
Kiwi nodded, then took the initiative. She instantly melted into the darkness, activating stealth mode as several bolts shot out at high speed.
Buzz!
Red light flared over Zed’s body. With a seamless series of movements combined with solid-state smoke, he closed in on Kiwi’s position in an instant, perfectly evading every attack.
“Was he not even serious when he fought me earlier?!”
Vilet was stunned. If he’d used this almost phasing-like ability back then, she would’ve already been taken down.
Facing Zed’s advance, Kiwi immediately pulled back, her compact crossbow firing another round of electromagnetic bolts.
Whoosh—
All of them were cleanly sliced apart by Zed’s fist blades. He then leaned forward, driving the blades straight toward Kiwi’s chest.
Boom!
Vilet dropped from above and smashed down with a punch. After a brief pause, the ground erupted, massive chunks of stone flying up—but all that remained at the impact point was a cloud of smoke.
Both of their expressions darkened instantly.
“Damn it—what kind of freak tech is this?!”
Whoosh—
A figure suddenly appeared in their blind spot. Suspended in midair, Zed hurled two massive shuriken that tore through the air with terrifying force as they sped toward them.
“Hmph!”
Unable to dodge in time, Vilet took the hit head-on. The coating on her exoskeleton armor shattered instantly, deep cracks spreading across it. One more strike like that would’ve hit her actual body.
“That level of damage is insane…”
Kiwi’s eyes narrowed, but her hands didn’t slow down at all. She immediately fired five arrows at Zed, who was unable to adjust his movement midair.
Whoosh—
Just as Kiwi thought she’d landed the hit, smoke suddenly surged up behind them. In the blink of an eye, Zed appeared right at their backs.
Both of their pupils shrank sharply.
Whoosh—
Fortunately, they disengaged in time and avoided serious injury, but—
Kiwi and Vilet both looked down at their waists. A glaring red slash stood out clearly.
Zed calmly pressed a button on his arm.
Two figures slowly rose up behind him.
Vilet and Kiwi were instantly dumbfounded.
“He can make clones too?!”
Whoosh—whoosh—whoosh—
After three sharp bursts of sound, three figures charged straight at the two of them.
Already outmatched, the pair could only struggle to hold on under Zed’s storm-like assault. Wounds quickly began to accumulate across their bodies.
But on closer inspection, every injury was superficial—painful, but not truly damaging.
In many places, the attacks only breached their armor without touching their flesh.
Just as Zed was about to end the fight, a figure leapt down from above, weapon raised high.
Boom!
Red energy swept across the ground, accompanied by electromagnetic suppression. However, a barrier rose around Zed, completely nullifying the control effect.
He vanished from his spot and reappeared behind Pyke in an instant, driving a kick into Pyke’s waist.
Having only just entered the battlefield, Pyke was kicked straight into the alley.
But he quickly hurled his harpoon and leapt back out, entangling Zed in close combat and relying on his powerful regeneration to drag the fight into a war of attrition.
Meanwhile, Zed’s figure flickered constantly between the three of them, using solid-state smoke to shift positions at will.
Before long, Zed caught an opening.
Four shadows rose out of nowhere, instantly locking down all three of them. Fist blades came to rest against their necks.
Zed stopped moving.
All three stared at him in shock.
“Who the hell are you?!”
Kiwi frowned, glaring at Zed as he slowly retracted his fist blades.
Zed simply waved his hand. The shadows restraining them vanished instantly. Freed from control, all three stumbled, looking dazed.
“Your control over this power is inadequate,” Zed said calmly. “Except for one of you. A shame—your specs are too low to be worth much.”
As he spoke, he glanced at Pyke, nearly making him explode with anger.
“I’m the leader of the counter-espionage intelligence unit. Mr. Roland sent me to test what you’re really made of.”
