Chapter 181: Shock

A sharp glint flashed through Kiwi’s eyes as she took in the scene. The enemy armored vehicle was charging straight at her, clearly planning to crush her outright.

Seeing through their intent, Kiwi braced herself and leapt. Her body turned into a streak of purple light, landing squarely on top of the armored vehicle. Behind her, the motorcycle drifted smoothly, pulling alongside it.

Without hesitation, Kiwi slammed her fist down, tearing open a breach in the vehicle’s roof, then dove straight inside.

The instant she entered, a Mantis Blade slashed toward her face. Kiwi bent low to dodge it, kicking a charging New United States soldier aside at the same time. With a flick of her foot, she vanished from view and reappeared behind another soldier.

Whoosh—

A crossbow bolt shot out, dropping a New United States soldier on the spot. Sensing that things were going south, the Third Squad Captain immediately activated his Sandevistan and rushed at Kiwi.

But Kiwi’s eyes tracked him the moment he moved.

“She can see me?!”

Thud!

A massive crossbow bolt crackling with electricity slammed into him, pinning him to the interior of the vehicle.

Thud!

Another bolt pierced his skull, and the light vanished from the Third Squad Captain’s eyes.

The moment his life signs disappeared, Mibul’s face darkened.

Just as he was about to order his men to speed up, a figure suddenly appeared directly in front of them—Vilet.

The sight made Mibul freeze, a giant question mark popping up in his head.

What is this? Is this woman suicidal?

He wouldn’t be thinking that for long.

“Captain, what do we do?”

“What kind of question is that? Run her over!”

With a furious shout from Vilet, orange-yellow energy surged into her hands, glowing patterns spreading across her body.

“Hah!”

Boom!

The instant her fists slammed into the front of Mibul’s armored vehicle, the entire thing was blasted backward. Metal fragments sprayed in every direction, and the ground split apart in massive spiderweb-like cracks under the violent energy shock.

Inside the spinning vehicle, Mibul tumbled helplessly, his mind completely blank.

Who am I?
Where am I?
What am I doing?

Thud! Thud! Thud!

After several heavy impacts, the armored vehicle Vilet had smashed skyward bounced across the ground like a rubber ball before finally grinding to a halt.

Vilet was panting hard, but her expression showed nothing but exhilaration.

Before long, Mibul crawled out of the wreckage, covered in blood and injuries, looking utterly miserable. His thoughts were still stuck on that punch.

Is she even human?

He looked up and saw Vilet staring down at him from above.

“Oi~”

Thud!

“Looks like things are getting pretty intense over there. Guess it’s time for us to have a proper chat too.”

Pyke flicked his wrist, instantly retracting his harpoon from a soldier’s body. As it returned to his hand, it transformed into a dagger.

He leapt forward, chains whipping through the air.

Boom!

A blinding red light flooded the compartment in an instant, and the entire vehicle exploded apart, bursting into a brilliant firework.

After finishing off everyone inside, Kiwi flipped back onto her motorcycle. Watching the armored vehicle recede into the distance, she calmly fired another crossbow bolt.

As flames erupted, Kiwi glanced at the Energy Dissipation Device in her hand, then stowed it inside the motorcycle. She planned to bring it back for Chris to take a look.

“S-sir… our squad… has been completely wiped out…”

Green’s aide stepped forward carefully and reported.

Green said nothing. He covered his eyes, clearly trying to figure out how to turn the situation around.

Meanwhile, on the main battlefield, the New United States forces were being pushed back step by step.

Armed drones and armed hover vehicles in the air were nothing more than live targets for Mammoth. As for why Mammoth wasn’t the one being shot down instead—

Because their attacks couldn’t penetrate its armor.

The ground forces were in much the same situation. In single-soldier combat, New United States troops simply couldn’t compare to PROJECT’s emotionless mechanical soldiers.

Worse still, the core of these machines wasn’t located in their heads. They had multiple energy sources—meaning even if you tore off their head, they could still keep beating you senseless.

One mechanical soldier could trade for several ordinary New United States troops.

Even elite NCOs were largely helpless against high-end units like the Imperial Guard Robots.

Standard Mantis Blades combined with Sandevistan barely scratched them. The Imperial Guard Robots only needed to tank the damage for a while before landing a single strike—and that was the end of you.

It was an assassin running headlong into a tank.

Under these conditions, morale on the front lines plummeted. If nothing changed soon, a full collapse of the main battlefield was only a matter of time.

“Request support from headquarters. Request long-range superconducting strikes!”

Green took a deep breath, lowered his hand, and stared viciously ahead.

The room went cold at his words. No one objected. They moved immediately. PROJECT’s displayed military power was simply too overwhelming, and none of them wanted to die here—even if this decision might end their careers later.

...

“What? A superconducting strike?!”

When Jamde received the report, he was completely stunned, taking a moment to process it. Even the brutal fighting over in Colorado hadn’t warranted a superconducting strike request. And now they were asking for one over PROJECT’s Elor City?

Had they lost their minds?

“Sir, should we approve Green’s request for support?”

Jamde frowned, thought for a moment, then spoke. “Approve it. But afterward, have him submit a detailed report on the entire operation. I want to see exactly what PROJECT is capable of.”

“Understood.”

...

“Sir, what’s the situation? Did headquarters approve it? The front lines are about to collapse!”

Green’s aide asked anxiously. Green was just about to curse when new orders came through. His expression instantly brightened.

“Good. Headquarters approved it. Send the coordinates immediately. Lock onto the biggest target and hit it!”

“Yes, sir!”

Before long, a missile launched from a silo within New United States territory. Across the Free States Alliance, alarms went off as defenses went on high alert, anti-air guidance systems activating to ensure it wouldn’t land on their own soil.

But soon, they realized something was wrong.

That missile’s destination… didn’t look right at all.
