V2: Chapter 49: The King and Queen with Malice

"Why did Doris suddenly call you?"

Liang Di shrugged. "We're on opposite sides, so of course she wanted to give me a hard time. Besides, I think the King knew about her invitation, but his intention is probably to let me and Gael develop a relationship."

"Oh, oh, oh..." Liang Lin feigned sudden realization, then exclaimed in shock, "Huh?! The King wants you and Gael to develop a relationship?!"

The tone of her shock was as if she were hearing it for the first time. Liang Di gave her a strange look.

She remembered telling Liang Lin about it before; it was because of this conversation that Liang Lin suggested going to the ball at the palace with her.

Why was she now looking so shocked, as if she'd never heard of it before?

"Oh right, Liang Lin, didn't I tell you before? You said you knew, right? It was that time at the palace for the ball, you forgot?"

"Huh?"

Liang Lin's brain overloaded.

"You, you said the King had taken a liking to you, didn't you? You didn't say it was Gael who had taken a liking to you. No, you said the King had taken a liking to you, I remember… I can't be wrong, I remember it clearly."

Ah… Liang Lin seemed to understand what I meant.

"Hahahaha~" Liang Di burst into laughter.

Liang Lin, so silly, but kind of cute.

"No, Sister Liang Lin, I think you've misunderstood me."

Liang Di wiped away tears of laughter from the corners of her eyes.

"What I meant by the King taking a liking to me wasn't that he wants to marry me. I meant that the King wants his son, Prince Gael, to marry me."

"Ah...ah...?"

After a moment of stunned silence, Liang Lin finally realized, "So that King isn't a pedophile, not a pervert?"

Oh no, how did I misunderstand him?

....

Oh well, so be it. He's not a good person anyway. What difference does it make if I add another charge or label? He deserves to die anyway. Adding one less charge won't slow his death any slower.

Liang Lin's hatred for the King was now at its peak.

"Hahahaha~" Liang Di recalled the King's lewd laugh; he really did look somewhat like a pedophile, a pervert.

"Sister Liang Lin, come with me to the palace."

This was a statement of fact, and Liang Di knew that Liang Lin would definitely come with her to the palace, even if she didn't say it directly, Liang Lin would bring it up indirectly.

As a sensible little dog, she certainly couldn't embarrass her beloved; getting her proud sister to speak up was too difficult.

"Okay," Liang Lin replied calmly.

The two of them boarded the carriage to the palace together.

This time, no one took them to the back garden, but directly to Doris's palace.

The palace's exterior was magnificent and imposing, its towering towers piercing the clouds, as if conversing with heaven and earth. Every brick, every carving, contained the exquisite skills and endless dedication of the craftsmen.

The main building of the palace used thick stone walls and sturdy archways, appearing solemn and majestic. The walls were carved with intricate patterns and mythological legends, every detail revealing an ultimate pursuit of beauty.

The doors and windows were exquisitely designed, inlaid with stained glass. Sunlight streamed through the glass, casting dappled shadows on the floor, adding a touch of mystery and romance to the palace.

Doris's palace was undeniably luxurious. Further inside lay the courtyard.

Inside the palace courtyard, lush trees and blooming flowers created a striking contrast with the magnificent architecture. The fountain shimmered in the sunlight, its gentle flow bringing a sense of coolness and tranquility to the palace.

Ahead, a captivating figure appeared.

Was that Queen Doris?

Liang Lin had seen her a few times at court balls, but didn't remember her clearly. She narrowed her eyes and whispered to Liang Di beside her,

"Liang Di, is that Doris?"

Liang Di hesitated for a second, then nodded. She recognized her.

"It's Doris."

At the same time, Doris noticed them. She remained composed, walking gracefully towards them with a friendly smile. But that smile, hanging on her alluring face, looked strangely out of place.

"Miss Liang Di, you've arrived."

Doris's attention was entirely focused on Liang Di, and she didn't even notice that Liang Lin was following behind her.

"Yes, Your Majesty." Liang Di gave Doris a perfect curtsy, then introduced her sister, "This is my sister, Liang Lin. She came with me today."

"Oh, Miss Liang Lin, good afternoon~" Doris smiled at Liang Lin, then immediately looked away, focusing on Liang Di again, as if afraid the other might escape from under her nose.

Damn it, this woman, does she completely disregard me?

Liang Lin hated being ignored, as if she were being looked down upon.

"How about we go have some afternoon tea?"

Doris didn't dare say anything more, because the king's trusted confidants were watching their every move.

"Gael has been waiting for you in the back garden for a long time, Miss Liang Di,” Doris gestured for her to step forward, walking ahead. “He’s been talking about you quite a bit lately.”

These were things she was forced to say, not what she truly felt; the King had made her say them, and she was putting on an act for the confidants he had sent.

“.....”

Liang Lin was speechless.

“Thank you for your kind words, Queen and Prince.” Liang Di obediently lowered her head.

These two monster hybrids are pretending to be innocent here.

How hypocritical.

Passing through a garden, they soon arrived at the small garden for afternoon tea.

The garden was enclosed by high walls or fences, maintaining a certain distance from the outside world, creating a private and tranquil space. Its layout was carefully designed, emphasizing symmetry and balance, showcasing a harmonious beauty.

Various flowers and trees were planted in the garden, forming a colorful scene. Flowers bloomed in abundance, their fragrance filling the air, attracting butterflies and bees that danced among the blossoms. The lush foliage of the trees provided a shady haven in the garden, a place where the royalty could rest and relax.

Nearby, meticulously designed fountains and sculptures added dynamism and life to the space. The gentle murmur of the fountains mingled with the birdsong, creating a beautiful natural symphony. The sculptures, with their unique forms and symbolism, added an artistic touch.

It was indeed beautiful, but the two young women had no time to appreciate it.

In the center of the garden stood a striking white pavilion, perfectly suited as a place to rest and enjoy the view.

The pavilion's exterior was crafted from high-quality stone, its lines flowing and elegant. Its roof, covered with ornate glazed tiles or exquisite wood carvings, shimmered and gleamed in the sunlight, radiating a captivating glow.

The pavilion was often surrounded by exquisitely carved railings, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and safety.

Outside the pavilion, Gael stood there. If he didn't speak, didn't make those greasy gestures and expressions, he actually looked quite handsome.

Well, like now, he stood there like a statue, not saying a word, not making a single movement.

But he wasn't mute; he had to speak eventually.

"Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di, you've arrived~"

Ugh, listen to that greasy, bubbly voice! So terrifying! It makes me want to vomit my dinner from last night.

Liang Lin couldn't help but roll her eyes at him.

Gael thought he was being very nice.

"I called Liang Lin's name first, not Liang Di's. Liang Lin will definitely be happy, right?"

Gael thought smugly.

"She'll probably think I like her more, and not so much her sister."

Seeing Gael's smile, Liang Lin knew this guy wasn't thinking anything good.

“Let’s stop catching up outside and go into the pavilion,” Doris reminded Gael.

“Yes, ladies, please come in,” Gael gestured.

Liang Di led the way, followed by Liang Lin, and they entered the pavilion.

The interior of the pavilion was equally opulent. Exquisite murals and sculptures adorned the walls, showcasing the unique charm of Western European art. Soft cushions and backrests, along with ornate chandeliers and candlesticks, added a touch of warmth and romance.

It was much better than the pavilion I'd seen in the palace last time; at least it was comfortable to sit in. Seeing that Doris and Gael had both sat down, Liang Lin didn't stand on ceremony and sat down herself.

The confidantes were still there.

Doris had no choice but to continue chatting with them about mundane matters, praising her son Gael, then herself, then the King, then the Soteland Empire—all useless chatter. Liang Lin was getting sleepy, yawning repeatedly.

Until Doris said, "Let's have some afternoon tea~"

"Okay."

Liang Di made the decision for Liang Lin.

Doris smiled and called for a maid.

Inside the brightly lit pavilion, a round table was meticulously arranged, its tablecloth embroidered with delicate patterns, shimmering with a subtle sheen. Various exquisite tea sets were laid out on the table; the porcelain patterns were delicate and intricate, exuding an understated luxury.

Tea was being slowly poured from the teapot into cups, releasing a delicate aroma that filled the air. The tea snacks were arranged on elegant dessert plates: sandwiches with rich fillings, scones with a crisp texture, and sweet desserts that were sweet but not cloying. Every detail showcased the refinement and sophistication of a royal afternoon tea.

Liang Lin wasn't very happy. She felt she had to pretend and maintain a certain decorum while eating, and this royal afternoon tea didn't seem very welcoming to her.

Only after taking a bite of a sandwich did Liang Lin smile contentedly.

Finally, finally, there was some enjoyment to be had.

Liang Lin was thoroughly enjoying her meal, while Liang Di and Doris exchanged knowing glances. As for Gael, he feigned deep affection while watching Liang Lin eat.

After Liang Lin had eaten half, she felt nauseous, losing all remaining enjoyment. She put down her tea and snacks, becoming listless once more.

"Miss Liang Di, you've reached the age for engagement. If you have a favorite young master, just speak up. We, the royal family, will help you. You are from the Langwendi family, and we have a long-standing friendship with them, dating back hundreds of years."

These words were spoken by the King to Doris.

Actually, Doris longed for a battle with Liang Di.

Doris wasn't a tentacle creature, nor a vampire; she was a hybrid, a hybrid of a monster with holes in its face that breathed through them, wings on its back, and the ability to create illusions.

This monster wasn't particularly aggressive, but its ability to create illusions was powerful. It could kill its opponent unknowingly within an illusion, making them die in a sweet dream—a kind of blissful death.

Liang Di stared intently at Queen Doris before her.

Just then, a soft female voice suddenly rang out. Several people turned to look and saw a young woman in magnificent robes.

Her figure was tall and elegant, like a jade sculpture sculpted by time, her lines flowing and graceful. Her gait was composed and steady, each step light yet powerful.

As she drew closer, everyone finally saw her clearly.

The young woman's face was exquisite and elegant, like white jade under the moonlight, warm and lustrous. Her brows revealed intelligence and wisdom, her eyes deep and bright, as if they could see through everything in the world. A gentle smile often graced her lips, like a spring breeze, giving people endless warmth and kindness.

Her attire was magnificent and elegant; the embroidery on her robes was exquisite, shimmering with a faint sheen, highlighting her noble status.  Her hair ornaments and jewelry were equally exquisite; whether it was the dazzling gemstones or the delicate gold and silver, they perfectly accentuated her noble bearing.

Compared to Doris, this young woman possessed more of the air of a queen.

Liang Lin didn't recognize this woman, blinking in confusion. Liang Di recognized her; this was the king's second daughter, the second princess—Erica. She was the child of the former queen.

Doris had a seductive, slutty look, completely incomparable to Erica.

Doris's existence was like a poisonous rose in the dark night, beautiful yet deadly. Her face was stunningly beautiful, every stroke seemingly meticulously sculpted, outlining a perfect yet malevolent face. Her eyes, deep as black holes, gleamed with cunning and ruthlessness, as if able to see into the deepest secrets of the human heart.

Her long hair cascaded like a waterfall, casually falling over her shoulders, adding a touch of untamed abandon. Her lips were a vibrant, luscious red, as if she had just drunk blood, possessing a chilling allure. Her demeanor was frivolous and wanton, every movement brimming with provocation and defiance, as if declaring her untamed nature and indulgence to the world.

She wore opulent attire, yet always exuded a sinister air. Her dresses were embroidered with intricate patterns, seemingly magnificent but concealing eerie secrets. Her jewelry was numerous and exquisite, often shimmering with an unsettling light, as if possessing some unspeakable magic.

But the king had a particular fondness for this kind of thing. When he first married Doris, he treated her like a precious jewel, cherishing her dearly. However, in recent years, the king's attitude towards Doris had clearly declined.

Liang Di glanced at Doris, then at Liang Lin beside her, and for a moment, she chuckled wryly. Compared to Liang Lin… for a fleeting moment, Doris seemed like a better person.

Then she looked at Liang Lin again.

This wicked woman, like a rose with thorns, is beautiful yet dangerous. Her face is exquisite, her skin as white as porcelain, but her eyes reveal a coldness and ruthlessness, as if harboring countless schemes and conspiracies (in reality, she's incredibly foolish). A disdainful smile often graces her lips, as if she holds nothing in high regard for the world.

Her long hair is as smooth as silk, meticulously combed, adorned with various precious hair ornaments, showcasing her nobility and arrogance. Her dresses are always gorgeous and intricate (this is truly not her fault; Liang Di designed them for her), carefully sewn from silk and lace, embroidered with complex patterns, shimmering with a captivating luster. However, these magnificent garments cannot conceal the malice and cruelty within her (in reality, she's utterly foolish).

Her demeanor is arrogant and acerbic; she always treats those around her with sarcasm and biting words, making her unbearable. She enjoyed manipulating power, using various means to frame those who offended her, ruining their reputations and even destroying their families (this is purely a folk tale).

Her laughter was crisp and piercing, melodious like silver bells, yet carrying a chilling coldness. Her voice was filled with mockery and disdain, making people hesitant to approach her (the only correct part).

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Liang Lin felt uneasy under Liang Di’s direct gaze. She touched her arm and asked softly, “Who is this person?”

“It’s Erica. You should have heard of her.”

She had indeed heard of her; who didn’t know the second princess of the Soteland Empire? She just didn’t know what she looked like and had never seen her.

“Oh… she has a look that suggests she has the world in her heart,” Liang Lin said.

Liang Di nodded, indicating agreement.

“Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di.”

“Your Majesty, Your Highness.”

Erica politely bowed to everyone.

“Erica, what brings you here? Shouldn’t you be in class at this time?” Doris warily sized up the girl before her, already having a pretty good idea of what was going on.

Erica explained, “My father sent me. He said Miss Liang Di has arrived and asked me to come and see her.”

It was just an ordinary noblewoman who had come; why did the princess have to come to see her? This was enough to show how much the King valued Liang Di.

“Miss Liang Di, may I sit next to you?” Erica didn’t speak to Doris again, but instead walked towards Liang Di, sat down next to her, and the two women’s arms were almost touching.
