V2: Chapter 70: Epilogue
“Get out of the way…”
Octaville spoke with unwavering resolve.
Let it be a momentary impulse. Taking advantage of this impulse, she'd take Liang Di away from this terrible place.
Yes, to find Hilary, to take Liang Di there. That was the place for her to live. The warm-hearted Kronin family wouldn't be disgusted by the scars on the child's face.
“Are you crazy?”
A magician shouted, “Could this monster also have the ability to create illusions?”
“Octaville has been bewitched!”
“She’s been bewitched by this monster!”
“Quickly, grab her, and then immediately go call the Tower Master!”
“Oh, my God… poor Octaville, it’s alright, we will definitely rescue you.”
Octaville closed her eyes.
She was still young. Everyone makes impulsive decisions in life, and at her age, she was full of passion and prone to acting rashly. How could she bear to see her beloved daughter suffer like this? How could she not run away with her?
"I'm sorry..."
"But you need to know something."
Octaville pulled out her magic wand, her eyes sharpening. "The Tower Master isn't in the Magic Tower, and none of the other magicians stronger than me are here either. What power do you have to stop me? I don't want to hurt you. Let me go. I just want to take Liang Di on a mission. We'll be back after we're done."
This was half-truth, half-lie, but right now, she couldn't bear to see Liang Di suffer.
Her figure, in the dim candlelight, appeared resolute and lonely, her eyes gleaming with an indomitable light. Her long red hair flowed like a waterfall, like a river of blood, radiating a faint crimson glow under the magical light. Although her robes were simple, the mysterious runes embroidered on them revealed her extraordinary status.
Her status was indeed extraordinary; she was one of the few disciples of the Tower Master.
Octaville was a gifted mage, possessing powerful abilities to control the elements. However, at this moment, she was surrounded by magicians. These magicians wore black robes and hideous masks; their eyes were filled with coldness and greed, their gazes fixed on the child in Octaville's arms.
Seeing Octaville draw her wand, several magicians followed suit. Some had initially been afraid, but seeing so many others draw their wands gave them a sense of confidence. Others, wanting to join the crowd, nervously pulled out wands from their sleeves.
"Hoo~"
Octaville took a deep breath.
She knew a fight was inevitable.
Prescott silently withdrew from the crowd. He had come to investigate after hearing the commotion, but seeing the scene, he didn't want to get involved. He knew that if he intervened, Octaville would have no chance of escape.
So… he'd pretend he'd never seen anything.
The battle was about to begin.
Octaville took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and began to gather her magical power. Her fingers lightly traced lines in the air, and dazzling magical runes appeared around her, like twinkling stars illuminating the entire interior of the magic tower.
Suddenly, Octaville opened her eyes, her red pupils flashing with a dazzling light. With a low shout, she swung her magic wand violently, unleashing a massive fire shockwave that scorched and distorted the surrounding air. The fire shockwave, like a raging dragon emerging from the sea, surged unstoppably towards the magicians.
The magicians, not to be outdone, unleashed their magical skills in an attempt to withstand Octaville's attacks. Some of them had long resented Octaville, considering her merely a young girl, and questioned why the Tower Master valued her so highly.
Instantly, magical light filled the tower, various elemental forces intertwining and unleashing astonishing power. However, Octaville's fire shockwave was unstoppable, shattering their defenses in an instant.
Under the impact of the flames, the magicians staggered back, some with expressions of terror on their faces. However, Octaville gave them no respite. With a swift movement, she vanished from her spot, reappearing behind one of the magicians. With a light flick of her wand, a cold wind blade sliced through the magician's arm.
Octaville then launched a series of attacks, her figure darting swiftly through the magic tower, each strike precise yet non-lethal. She knew she had to end this quickly, or it would cause unnecessary trouble.
She had to get Liang Di out of this dangerous place as soon as possible; any delay would only invite disaster.
The magicians were like lambs to the slaughter before her, utterly powerless. Soon, several mages collapsed under Octaville's magic.
However, the magicians outnumbered her, and they quickly reorganized their attack. They began to unleash even more powerful magical skills, attempting to trap Octaville. For a time, the magic tower was once again engulfed in fierce combat.
Beads of sweat appeared on Octaville's forehead. Although her abilities were indeed formidable, she had been on a mission today, and her magic power had been depleted. Now, facing so many magicians, she was finding it somewhat overwhelming.
However, facing the siege of the black-robed mages, she remained completely calm. She calmly analyzed the battle, searching for her opponent's weakness. Using her speed and agility, she constantly dodged their attacks while simultaneously seeking an opportunity to counterattack.
Finally, in a fierce exchange, Octaville found an opening. She flashed forward, appearing before one of the magicians. With a sudden swing of her wand, a massive bolt of lightning struck the magicians. The lightning instantly knocked them to the ground; their bodies convulsed under the impact, their eyes rolled back, and they lost consciousness.
This attack shattered the magicians' composure, and they began to panic. Octaville seized the opportunity to launch an even more ferocious attack; her magical power swept through the entire magic tower like a storm. Under her onslaught, magicians fell one after another, ultimately succumbing to her magic.
After the battle, Octaville stood at the entrance of the magic tower, her figure appearing exceptionally tall in the moonlight. She took a deep breath, savoring the joy of victory and the feeling of freedom. She knew she had successfully escaped the Magic Tower with Liang Di.
But… her remaining magic power seemed only enough for one more teleportation spell. By then, the Tower Master would surely find her and take her back.
The joy of success was utterly shattered the moment she faced reality. Octaville felt utterly powerless. She had fought her way out of the encirclement with Liang Di, but her lack of magic power had brought her to this point.
Is this truly the end?
Octaville was unwilling to accept it.
“Little Fu.”
That familiar, gentle voice rang out. Prescott, carrying several vials of potions, approached Octaville. He smiled gently. “Well done, Little Fu. Just like when you were little, you’re still courageous and kind, untainted by them. Excellent.”
He then handed her the potions.
“Here you go.”
“Where is this…?”
Octaville took the potions, clutching them tightly.
“This is a potion that temporarily restores magic power, but it has side effects. For the next week, you’ll feel very weak. And this one, it temporarily boosts your magic power, but it also has side effects. For the next two weeks, your magic power won’t be able to recover.”
Prescott stared intently into her eyes.
"So, are you still willing to run away with this child?"
Octaville hesitated for only a second before nodding vigorously. "I've gone to such lengths, how could I not?"
"Good."
Prescott pointed to the bottle of Kranin blue potion in the other's arms. "That's to conceal your presence; the magic crystal won't be able to detect you for now. However, you'll need to draw your own magic circle where you arrive. This will probably only last for a week."
Octaville nodded vigorously, her eyes filled with gratitude as she looked at Prescott.
“Go on, Little Fu.” Prescott waved at her with a smile. “I always hate the sadness of parting, but you have to go, you have to go quickly.”
“Okay!”
Octaville nodded vigorously again, waving to Prescott, “Goodbye, Teacher Prescott!”
“Yeah, see you next time.”
Arriving at the open space outside the magic tower, Octaville drank the entire bottle of magic-restoring potion, instantly feeling her magic power surge back. Then, she took out another bottle of magic-boosting potion and drank that too. She knew that even with her magic fully restored, she wouldn't be able to draw a dozen teleportation arrays to reach the border directly.
Glug glug glug~
“Phew~”
After wiping her mouth, Octaville squatted down and began hurriedly drawing teleportation arrays on the ground.
Liang Di had fainted from the pain, but Octaville couldn't attend to her for the time being. The most urgent task was to leave this dangerous place.
"The place I brought Liang Di to is the border, you know."
The scene shifted abruptly to a luxurious hall. Octaville, still with her usual nonchalant attitude, casually propped her head up, popped a grape into her mouth, and looked at Liang Lin opposite her. "Well~ so you understand now, right? Why I was so sick back then, and why I suddenly brought her to you."
Liang Lin asked, puzzled, "But, after all the trouble you went through to rescue Liang Di, why did you send her back in the end?"
