V2: Chapter 82: Can She Confirm Her Own Feelings?

It's a strange thing.

Carol becomes much more docile in Liang Di's arms. She doesn't know if it's a reassuring magic between kindred spirits, or if Liang Di simply has a natural ability to soothe children.

In any case, Carol falls asleep peacefully in Liang Di's arms.

"Mommy."

"Mommy..."

The childish, unclear voice melts Liang Di's heart. She gently pats Carol's small body with her tentacles, softly comforting her.

"Sweetie, sleep well. Mommy will try her best to make time for you in the future."

Liang Di lovingly strokes her child's face, holding her tightly in her arms.

This is proof of my love for my Sister Liang Lin, even if... Liang Lin doesn't love me back.

Liang Di understands. She understands everything.

Liang Lin's feelings for her are far less profound than she imagines.

Liang Di understood everything.

But she wanted to immerse herself in the happy illusion she had created, fantasizing that Liang Lin loved her—deeply, passionately, and madly. This was the driving force that kept her going; it was what allowed her to feel her existence as a person in this world.

Some people always value love more than their own lives, and Liang Di was one of them. Moreover, Liang Lin was the only ray of light in her countless dark and painful days.

Her future couldn't be without Liang Lin. Giving up Liang Lin was equivalent to giving up her own life. All her efforts and changes were now aimed at keeping Liang Lin by her side forever.

“Sleep well, sweetie,” Liang Di patted Carol’s back, whispering softly, “Mommy love you very much, but I have my own things to do and can’t be with you… I’m sorry.”

Children must all crave their mothers’ company.

Liang Di thought.

She had never met her birth mother, Meredith, and her adoptive mother, Octaville, wasn’t always by her side.

When she was little, Octaville always locked her in her room, not letting her go out to play. But she would always sneak out to play.

She didn’t understand why Octaville kept her locked in her room. Only when she grew up did she realize that it was Octaville’s way of protecting her.

Liang Di’s childhood was filled with pain and loneliness, which is why she forever etched the happiest times with Liang Lin into her mind, regarding Liang Lin as her only salvation in life.

At this moment, Liang Di suddenly felt very pathetic.

Her life was filled with unrequited love, squandering a promising future, and the malice born from humanity's fear of the supernatural—all of which she, a naive and clueless little girl, had to bear.

So, were all the kindness Liang Lin showed me just out of pity?

Liang Di's heart skipped a beat, but she shook her head vigorously, waking Carol in her arms. Liang Di quickly placed her hand back on the little one's head.

"Good girl, go back to sleep, I won't bother you anymore."

Her voice was unusually gentle.

"Don't think so much, Liang Di. Even if it's just superficial happiness, it's still happiness, isn't it?"

Liang Di comforted herself, trying to forget the bad thoughts in her mind, and gradually closed her eyes.

Natalie still hadn't given up pursuing Liang Lin, and would still occasionally visit her with gifts.

However, Liang Di has been very busy lately. The Langwendi family business is booming, keeping her incredibly busy, sometimes even neglecting to sleep at the mansion.

Liang Lin and Liang Di's lives seem to have become parallel lines, never to intersect again. Liang Di misses her sister Liang Lin and worries that Natalie might do something to win Liang Lin's heart while she's away. Therefore, she tries her best to go home whenever possible.

Liang Di says she truly, truly, truly tried her best.

For example, once:

"Miss Liang Lin, your hands must be very uncomfortable holding Carol, right?" Natalie smiled gently, holding a small cake. "Here, let me feed you, ah~"

But Liang Lin frowned. She doesn't like sweets and instinctively wanted to refuse.

However, Natalie seemed to have anticipated what the other person would say, so she immediately added, "Miss Liang Lin, don't worry, I know you don't like very sweet things, so I asked Diandian to put less sugar in it. This is a low-sugar version, you can eat it without worry."

Oh?

Now that she'd said that, it would be impolite to refuse.

Liang Lin reluctantly opened her mouth.

"Aahh!"

Liang Lin froze.

She only bit into air.

Because the small cake was being chewed by Liang Di.

Liang Lin was dumbfounded. She sat on the sofa, looking up, and saw that, out of nowhere, someone was now standing next to her, with sugar frosting on their lips, happily eating the small cake.

“Hmm, if it's less sugar, it tastes pretty good~” Liang Di swallowed the small cake in her mouth, commenting with a smile, “However, compared to the pastry chef at our Langwendi family… it still falls a little short.”

Her smile, which should have been very sweet, now seemed so sinister, giving Natalie goosebumps.

“Yes, that’s true,” Natalie remained polite, “After all, Miss Liang Di, your family’s desserts are known throughout many empires.”

Liang Di was satisfied with what the other said and nodded. Then, she pulled up a chair and placed it between the two of them, ignoring Natalie and asking Liang Lin, “Sister Liang Lin, what were you two talking about just now? Let me hear~”

“Nothing much, just chatting.”

Liang Lin lowered her head to play with Carol in her arms.

She was telling the truth. She really hadn't talked much with Natalie; it was all trivial stuff, mostly topics about aristocratic ladies that she didn't understand. She wasn't interested, letting it go in one ear and out the other, only occasionally giving a perfunctory reply.

But, in Liang Di's ears, this sounded like Liang Lin and Natalie had a little secret they didn't want her to know. So, her gaze towards Natalie became even more resentful.

For example, on another occasion:

"Miss Liang Lin, I heard from the old lady next door that the violets will bloom next week, they're very beautiful, would you like to go see them together with me?"

Natalie extended an invitation to Liang Lin.

Liang Lin, also uninterested in admiring beautiful scenery, refused without even thinking.

"Ah, I'm sorry, lately… uh…"

She stammered for a long time, unsure what excuse to use to refuse.

"Anyway, well, I've been really busy lately, and I also have to see Carol, oh yes, that's it, so I can't go."

Liang Lin's words were disjointed, and after she finished speaking, she scratched her head in frustration, feeling the awkward atmosphere. Her refusal without a reason was too obvious. However, she quickly straightened her posture.

What difference would it make if she refused? Why should she feel guilty? She just didn't want to go.

"Oh, I don't like flowers, I'm not going to see them."

Liang Lin curled her lip in disdain.

At this moment, Liang Di suddenly appeared out of nowhere.

"Ah! Then, Sister Liang Lin, let's go see the violets together~"

After saying this, she narrowed her eyes, glanced at Natalie, and revealed a confident smile, speaking each word clearly.

"Only, the, two, of, us, together, oh~"

But, the next second, she deflated.

"No."

Because Liang Lin refused again, decisively.

It's true, she doesn't like looking at flowers anyway. If it were a swordplay performance or blacksmithing, she would definitely be happy to go.

"Really not going, Sister Liang Lin?"

Liang Di pitifully grabbed Liang Lin's arm, shaking it back and forth.

She knew Liang Lin was most susceptible to this.

Indeed, Liang Lin couldn't help it, but she didn't want to go either, so she shook off Liang Di's hand and said, "Don't nag me, I'll consider going with you."

After saying that, she quickly ran away, dashing upstairs to her room, not caring about manners, leaving Liang Di and Natalie downstairs.

Women are truly terrifying.

Liang Lin came to this conclusion.

It was after this incident that Natalie returned home.

That night, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she could think of Liang Di's words.

Combined with the guarded look on Liang Di's face when she looked at her, Natalie finally confirmed her suspicions—Liang Di's feelings for Liang Lin were definitely not a simple younger sister's affection for her older sister.

She had already inquired; Liang Lin and Liang Di weren't biological sisters at all, they had no blood relation whatsoever.

So…

That Liang Di, she likes Liang Lin too, right?

It must be, you could tell from the undisguised affection in her eyes when she looked at Liang Lin.

Then what about Liang Lin?

Does she like Liang Di?

Natalie couldn't sleep even more.

"No!"

Finally, she sat up in bed.

It was already past midnight, and the gentle moonlight shone on her face.

Natalie's expression was resolute, her fists clenched tightly.

"I must ask her."

"Wait, no."

"I can't ask so directly. I have to ask indirectly. If I anger Miss Liang Lin, it won't be good."

"Besides..."

What if Liang Lin really does have some indescribable feelings for Liang Di, but she's unaware of it?

What if she suddenly discovers it after being prompted like this?

Wouldn't I be doing all the work for someone else?

That's something she doesn't want to happen.

Natalie lay back down on the bed, starting to think of a way to subtly ask Liang Lin.
