V2: Chapter 84: I Will Never Like Her!
"Miss Liang Lin..."
Upon hearing Natalie's voice, Liang Lin felt a headache coming on. She reflexively turned around, covering her head with her hands, muttering complaints under her breath.
"Damn it, why is this woman here again? Doesn't she have any sense? Can't she see I don't like her coming to see me?"
However, Natalie held a very high position in other empires, and Liang Lin couldn't completely break off relations; it would also affect the Langwendi family.
Helpless, she could only take a deep breath, not forcing an awkward smile, and calmly turn around, nodding to Natalie.
"Good morning, Miss Natalie."
This was already the most polite greeting she could muster. Liang Lin felt she had sacrificed so much for the Langwendi family; she almost cried.
"Good morning, Miss Liang Lin!"
Natalie, as always, was as elegant as when she first met Liang Lin. She lifted her skirt and strode towards Liang Lin.
"Miss Liang Lin, where's Carol?"
Today, Liang Lin's arms were empty; the lively little one was nowhere to be seen.
Natalie looked left and right, but Carol wasn't in the maid's arms behind her either.
Natalie almost beamed with joy.
Great! Now it really was just me and Miss Liang Lin, no one else to disturb us... um, no...
Then, like a startled rabbit, Natalie looked around. Not seeing the terrifying white-haired girl, she finally relaxed a little. She patted her ample chest, breathed a sigh of relief, and secretly prayed that Liang Di wouldn't suddenly reappear. Today, she had very important questions to ask Liang Lin.
“Ah, Carol, she is playing with the maids (referring to Laura and Gladys)?”
Liang Lin didn't want to explain much, nor did she want to mention the names, so she just gave a perfunctory answer.
“Oh~”
Natalie nodded thoughtfully.
Then she immediately suggested, “Let’s go sit in the back garden, Miss Liang Lin.”
Liang Lin sighed.
“Hmm, okay.”
She really had no choice; she had to go to the back garden again, spending the whole morning there, bored. She really didn’t want to go, listening to Natalie talk about topics she didn’t quite understand, or topics she understood but wasn’t interested in. Every time, she felt drowsy, her eyelids drooping, wanting to prop her eyes up with toothpicks, but out of politeness, she couldn’t sleep, so she could only force her eyes wide open until Natalie went home.
Moreover, this guy, if she didn't understand, would just laugh it off no matter how sarcastic she was, as if she couldn't understand human speech. Liang Lin really couldn't handle this kind of person; her words were like feathers, utterly ineffective.
Natalie was different from the shameless Liang Di. That girl would act up and act cute when Liang Lin was being sarcastic. But this guy just smiled, and even seemed a little embarrassed, making Liang Lin feel awkward and unable to continue after only half a sentence. It was really boring.
"Miss Liang Lin, may I ask what type of young master you like?"
"..."
"Pfft!!!"
Liang Lin almost spat out all the tea in her mouth. She stared at Natalie in shock, tea dripping down her chin and mouth.
O_o!!
"Huh?"
My lady, did you listen to what you're saying?
Like young masters? I'm not gay, what kind of young master do I like? Even though my body is now that of a girl, my soul has been male for so many years. How could I possibly be in a relationship with a man?!
"You're asking...you mean, you're...well, you mean..."
Liang Lin stammered for a long time, unable to utter a complete sentence. She really wanted to throw the teacup on the ground and smash it, refusing to give Natalie any face and just leaving. However, she was a mature adult now, and things that could harm her interests were best avoided.
Natalie also noticed Liang Lin's bad expression. Although her face was red, her eyes were full of anger.
Oh no, oh no, oh no, how should I salvage this?
In her panic, Natalie accidentally blurted out her true feelings: "Miss Liang Lin, I think a young lady like you shouldn't like any young master. You should like a young lady!"
"Uh..."
These words silenced Liang Lin, and the anger in her eyes subsided considerably.
How should I put it? Was this a compliment?
So, Liang Lin put down her teacup.
"Ah, it's not that obvious, is it? I know I am quite brave, but it wouldn't be that obvious... uh, something that would be immediately obvious..."
Her words were still incoherent.
Natalie didn't understand the connection between bravery and liking the same sex. But anyway, she just went along with what the other person was saying.
"Mmm-hmm."
Natalie nodded, like a chick pecking at rice, and began a new round of praise, "Of course, Miss Liang Lin, I think you like women, ah... I'm not wrong about that, am I? The way you wield your sword is really handsome and dashing. I think you must be able to capture the hearts of many young ladies."
This praise hit Liang Lin's sweet spot.
She fucking loved being praised!
So, her anger vanished, her back straightened, her chin held high, and she even deliberately struck what she thought was a very elegant pose, like a noble and proud Persian cat.
"Uh, it's fine to tell you, anyway, I don't like men. Don't ask me such disgusting topics again, I'm feeling nauseous right now."
Her expression was practically screaming "pride."
Natalie, seeing that her flattery was working, racked her brains, almost to the point of madness.
Yes, since the other person liked being praised, she would just keep praising, feigning praise while actually probing for the other person's feelings.
Yes, first, she'd ask what type of girl the other person liked.
"Then... Miss Liang Lin, such a handsome and dashing lady, your type of girl must be elegant and noble, right?"
Sure enough, the first sentence was a compliment, the second a question, which made Liang Lin feel incredibly flattered. She instantly became smitten and answered the question.
Liang Lin waved her hand. "Ugh, elegance or not, it doesn't matter. I don't really care about that. Hmm... I don't really have a type of girl I like. Of course, if I had to say, I'd prefer someone different from me, like a sweet and cute girl."
Upon hearing this, Natalie glanced at her ample bosom, then thought about her perfectly oval face, without a trace of baby fat, her mature, wavy hair, and her graceful figure.
Hmm, it seemed I can't be described as "sweet and cute."
"Just... that's all the standards?"
Natalie's voice trembled slightly. She swallowed, then realized it wasn't appropriate to say such things, and quickly added more praise, "Hmm, I always thought that a lady as outstanding as Liang Lin would have very, very high standards for a partner. I didn't expect that just being sweet and cute would be enough."
These few words of praise made our malicious heiress completely lose her composure. She was so pleased with herself, swaying her head like a roly-poly toy.
She waved her hand dismissively, "Oh well, I'm the one supporting the family anyway, I can't let my partner support me. I don't have many requirements, just someone pleasing to the eye and a soulmate, that's enough. As for external requirements, preferably sweet and cute, petite, and definitely shorter than me (the last bit of stubbornness from someone under 1.7 meters tall)."
Hearing this, Natalie's heart sank completely, and the smile on her lips vanished. She thought about her own height; she was almost a head taller than Liang Lin.
But thinking about it carefully, Liang Di didn't seem to fit the criteria of being cute and sweet, or shorter than Liang Lin.
Hmm… but she had once read a quote that said when someone meets someone they truly like, even if many standards don't match, even if that person isn't their ideal type, they still fall for them. That possibility couldn't be ruled out; after all, humans are complex creatures.
So, she still had to test the waters. She had to subtly inquire about Liang Lin's feelings for Liang Di. Natalie felt that Liang Lin's gaze towards Liang Di wasn't entirely innocent.
She silently prayed, hoping she was overthinking things, hoping she was mistaken. If Liang Lin truly liked Liang Di, then her chances of competing were extremely slim.
Firstly, in terms of time spent together, Liang Di had already won by a huge margin. Moreover, judging from the current situation, Liang Lin didn't seem to like her either, showing no romantic feelings whatsoever. Thinking of this, Natalie felt somewhat dejected, hanging her head listlessly and fidgeting with her hands.
Now wasn't the time to be discouraged. She would continue asking. If Liang Lin had absolutely no feelings for Liang Di, then everything would be fine.
“Miss Liang Lin, you truly are a rare find,” Natalie continued, showering Liang Lin with compliments. “Someone like you must be popular with many girls, right? I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but I always feel… your sister really likes you.”
After saying this, Natalie was prepared for Liang Lin’s anger.
And the result was more or less what she expected.
However, instead of anger, Liang Lin blushed and bristled, as if her secret had been exposed.
“That’s my sister! How could she possibly like me? Impossible!” Liang Lin denied it outright, unaware that her actions only served to make it more obvious; anyone could see through her little scheme.
Natalie’s heart skipped a beat; she knew something was wrong.
Judging from Liang Lin’s reaction, she definitely knew her sister had feelings for her. She just didn’t know what Liang Lin planned to do.
"Oh, I see..."
Natalie continued, following the other's lead, "I was presumptuous. I'm sorry, I thought there was some kind of feeling between you two..."
Before she could finish,
"How could that be? Absolutely impossible!"
Liang Lin interrupted loudly, "I can like anyone, except her! I! Will! Never, ever, ever like her!"
The words fell.
Crack!
Behind them came the sound of a plate hitting the floor.
It was Liang Di.
