V2: Chapter 98: Why Get So Close When You're Supposed to be Talking?!

"I saw you at the tea party before, but only once, so it's normal you don't remember me."

Liang Di remained polite. "Then you must be Miss Hedy, I'm sure I haven't mistaken you."

Hedy nodded, touching the crest representing her family on her chest. "Yes, I am Hedy. May I ask, Miss, who are you...?"

"My name is Liang Di Langwendi."

"Liang Di Langwendi..." Hedy murmured to herself. The name sounded familiar, as if she'd heard it somewhere before.

How could it not sound familiar? The Langwendi family was currently the most famous family in aristocratic circles; practically every noble wanted to curry favor with them. Although Hedy had been confined to her home, she had heard some news from the outside world.

However, most of her attention was focused on her male lover, and she hadn't paid much attention to Liang Di's affairs. So, when she heard that familiar name, She must thought for a long, long time before finally remembering who the woman in front of her was.

"Oh, oh, oh…!" Hedy's expression suddenly became excited. She remembered that the maid had told her that this woman, Liang Di Langwendi, was likely to become the queen of this kingdom in the future, and that her abilities were first-rate (she didn't remember much of the last part).

Yes, her attention was entirely focused on romantic love, and she didn't pay attention to anything else, such as the maid praising Liang Di's abilities, her intelligence, and how well she managed the Langwendi family. She didn't take any of these praises to heart; she only firmly remembered the sentence, "This might be the prince's wife," and now it suddenly came back to her.

“Miss Liang Di, it’s you! I’ve often heard about your deeds at home.”

Although she didn’t know what those deeds were, Hedy, like any other noble lady, showered Liang Di with praise.

Luckily, Liang Di didn’t ask anything, otherwise Hedy would have been awkwardly speechless.

“Miss Hedy, I’ve long admired your name.” Liang Di flashed her innocent smile again.

Others wouldn’t understand, but Liang Lin, standing not far away, knew from that smile that this girl was up to her old tricks.

Hedy was stunned, her mind blank. She couldn’t remember doing anything that would make others remember her. After thinking carefully, her face suddenly flushed, showing signs of embarrassment and anger.

Although she was love-struck, she wasn’t stupid. She knew that her plan to elope with her lover was already the talk of the town in noble circles, and many noble ladies were gossiping about her behind her back.  She hadn't done anything earth-shattering, nor had she done anything particularly good. The only thing people talked about was this.

"Miss Liang Di, you're being a bit..."

Hedy's anger hadn't even erupted yet.

"Miss Hedy, you are truly a lady I greatly admire," Liang Di interrupted, offering this unexpected compliment. "I really admire you. Unlike the sarcastic remarks others make about you, my praise comes from the bottom of my heart"

Hedy: "?"

Hedy was dumbfounded.

This was the first time someone had said they admired her.

She was somewhat confused. She carefully recalled what she had done, and it seemed there was nothing truly admirable. So, what was this strange person in front of her saying? Was she really not being sarcastic? But then, sensing the other person's tone, it didn't seem like she was being sarcastic at all.

"I... you... aren't you...?"

Even Hedy herself found the praise incredibly unbelievable, even starting to wonder if she was dreaming, or if the young lady in front of her was joking.

"Miss Liang Di, you... you mean...?" Hedy looked the young lady up and down with a suspicious gaze.

Liang Di blinked her innocent, large, sapphire-blue eyes, stepped forward, and moved closer to Hedy. "Miss Hedy, of course I'm praising you."

"Ah, I..."

Hedy was even more confused. She took a step back, keeping her distance from Liang Di.

Liang Di smiled, raising one hand, her voice full of emotion and sincerity. "Miss Hedy," she said, "I've heard your love story. Although everyone says you're foolish, I've never thought so. From the moment I heard the story, I never thought you were foolish."

Hedy's face flushed red and then paled. She thought the compliment was just a compliment, but instead, the compliment was met with adoration. This left Hedy completely bewildered.

"I..."

Liang Di interrupted her hesitation. "I think it's a very poignant love story. The lovers couldn't be together, which is always a great regret in the world."

These words struck a chord with Hedy. Her expression softened; instead, she nodded vigorously. "My God, Miss Liang Di, you actually think so too! No one else has ever said that to me before! My God!"

Her tone was full of admiration, as if she had found a kindred spirit.

“Of course, Miss Hedy! I think you're incredibly brave, so incredibly brave, to dare to pursue your own love. That's a rare and wonderful quality in the world. How could anyone think you're foolish? I think those people just don't understand love, they don't understand romance.”

Liang Di's voice grew increasingly excited, her whole demeanor as if she were on steroids, even starting to gesticulate wildly.

Behind her, Liang Lin, seeing this, wondered if this guy had taken the wrong medication before leaving home. Her body language was so exaggerated, and her facial expressions and tone of voice all had a particularly theatrical feel.

Could the lady opposite really believe her? Such clumsy acting!

Actually, Liang Lin was used to Liang Di's remarkably realistic acting, which is why she saw through this slightly exaggerated performance at a glance.

“Oh… my God!” Hedy was so excited that tears welled up in her eyes. She strode forward, no longer keeping her distance from Liang Di.

Hedy reached out and grabbed Liang Di's hand. "Miss Liang Di! You, you're practically another version of me! How do you understand me so well?! You've told me everything on my mind! You're the person who understands me best in the world!"

"Huh???"

"No. No."

Liang Lin frowned, took two small steps forward, then immediately stopped, muttering under her breath, "Really, they're just talking, why are their hands clasped together?"

Although she didn't know what she was complaining about, something about the scene felt off, making her uncomfortable, or rather, very uncomfortable.

Liang Lin clicked her tongue, her brows furrowing even more. "Why bother with them? Really..."

But she really felt uncomfortable!

Liang Lin's eyes were practically glued to their clasped hands.
