V2: Chapter 117: What Are You Doing? Trying to Take Advantage of Me?
"What are you doing there..." Liang Lin's voice was a little soft.
Feeling the cold sweat on her forehead, she gently wiped it away, her breathing still a little rapid.
The dim yellow light from the corridor shone through the crack in the door. Liang Lin looked up and saw Liang Di's worried face.
"Sister Liang Lin?" Liang Di didn't hear what Liang Lin said, only saw the other's mouth opening and closing, saying something unintelligible. "What did you just say? I didn't hear you clearly."
Liang Di's voice was gentle. She noticed a hint of panic in Liang Lin's expression, lowered her voice, and approached quietly, like a kitten that had done something wrong, as if afraid of startling the other.
"Tell me, why are you standing there? What time is it? Shouldn't you be sleeping in your room?" Liang Lin's voice rose slightly. She took a deep breath and exhaled heavily.
The dream she just had was so real, so real, that she hadn't recovered yet, feeling the agonizing pain of reliving death. The tentacles entangling her, gradually making it hard to breathe, tightening until she suffocated—Liang Lin never wanted to experience that again.
"I, I..."
Liang Di didn't know how to explain. She wasn't really that twisted, monitoring her sister 24/7. It was just that before going to bed tonight, she felt inexplicably anxious. Lying in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep, she drew back the curtains and stared blankly at the moon for a while.
After midnight, she thought she could finally fall asleep, but her heart pounded even more. So, Liang Di decided to go for a walk in the hallway to clear her head.
Of course, she was worried about Liang Lin. Her mind was in turmoil, her heart was in turmoil, and muscle memory led her directly to Liang Lin's room.
Liang Di sat down in front of Liang Lin's room, feeling much more at ease.
"Sure enough, just being close to Sister Liang Lin makes me feel so safe."
Liang Di hugged her knees, like a well-behaved child, pressing her face against them, and sat silently in the corridor. Luckily, it was a summer night, and she wasn't cold in her thin clothes.
She sat there blankly for a while, thinking that once her heart calmed down, she would go back to her room to sleep.
As she sat there, drowsiness began to wash over her, and Liang Di's eyelids started to droop. Thinking it was time to go back, she stretched and was just about to stand up when
"Liang!"
"Liang Di!"
She heard her own name.
The voice was loud, as if it would pierce her eardrums.
Liang Di was instantly wide awake, because the voice was coming from Liang Lin's room. Without thinking, she kicked open the door.
The door had just opened when, in the dim light of the hallway, she saw her sister sitting safely on the bed, seemingly unharmed. However, the heaving of her chest told Liang Di that Liang Lin had likely had a nightmare.
"Liang Lin, are you alright?" Liang Di asked again. "Sometimes I can't sleep at night, and I get a little restless. I was walking around in the hallway for a while when I heard you calling me. I was worried about you, so I just kicked the door open..."
As if afraid of being scolded, Liang Di shrank her shoulders, looking at Liang Lin with innocent, large eyes.
Liang Lin didn't feel that the other woman had done anything wrong, just a little embarrassed, a little awkward, and a little ashamed. Being frightened by a nightmare and calling someone else's name—if word got out, people would laugh their heads off.
"Liang Lin, did you have a nightmare?"
Liang Di, of all people, seemed determined to dodge this question.
Liang Lin was momentarily speechless, unsure how to answer. She racked her brains for a reason, trying to justify herself, trying to cover up the fact that she had been terrified by a nightmare, but her mind went blank, and she didn't know what excuse to use.
Seeing that the other person didn't speak, Liang Di took a deep breath, mustered her courage, and took a few more steps into the room. Liang Lin didn't notice her, nor did she stop her; Liang Di took it as her sister allowing her to enter the room. She tiptoed, tiptoed, slowly shuffled to the edge of Liang Lin's bed, and gently sat down, making almost no noise.
By the time Liang Lin noticed her, Liang Di was already sitting on her bed.
"What are you doing here?" Liang Lin hugged the blanket tighter.
"I... I was worried about you, sister."
As she got closer, Liang Di saw the glistening beads of sweat on the other person's forehead. Looking more closely, there were no signs of injury on the other person's face or exposed arms. It was obvious that Liang Lin had had a nightmare and had been frightened awake.
Thinking of this, Liang Di felt a sudden, inexplicable surge of joy.
When Liang Lin had her nightmare, she was calling out my name! When in danger, her first thought was of me! So, in Liang Lin's heart, I must be incredibly reliable, right? Perhaps Liang Lin also considered me a very, very important person, but was just too proud to say it?
"Liang Lin, what nightmare did you have?" Liang Di kept bouncing around the other's embarrassing spot.
Liang Lin was a little annoyed, but also relieved. It was nighttime, and the room was dark, so Liang Di couldn't see her flushed cheeks from embarrassment.
"Nothing..."
Forget it.
There's no point in hiding it now; it's better to be honest. Besides, my nightmare was indeed quite eerie, so real, like being trapped in a dream. Now isn't the time to be stubborn; it is better to tell the truth.
"Hmm, I dreamt about..."
Liang Lin recounted her entire dream to Liang Di.
Liang Di's expression gradually shifted from relaxed to unnatural.
"It felt so real. If it were just a normal dream, I don't think I would tell you," Liang Lin took a deep breath. "I don't dream much, and this is the first time I've ever had such a vivid dream."
Liang Di thought for a moment, not understanding why either.
"Then, if you're scared, Sister Liang Lin, I'll sleep with you."
Liang Di wasn't trying to take advantage of Liang Lin; she genuinely was worried about Liang Lin continuing to have nightmares and wanted to stay by her sister's side so she could sleep more peacefully.
However, Liang Lin clearly misunderstood. She hugged the blankets tighter, wrapping herself up like a cocoon, staring at Liang Di warily.
"What? You want to stay here?"
