V2: Chapter 119: You're Really Serious!
"Waaah~"
Edwin, wiping away tears, ran towards Donald's side, accusing Liang Lin of her misdeeds as he ran, "Grandpa! She bullied me, she bullied me, she even cursed my mother, she said she wanted my mother to die!"
"Eh?! Wait!"
Liang Lin interrupted him, then lifted her skirt and ran after Edwin.
Hearing her stop him, Edwin felt smug, thinking this woman was scared after he complained. Of course she'd be scared; she was just an adopted daughter, after all. Grandpa Donald would definitely side with him; he was his blood-related grandson, how could he be inferior to an outsider?
So, he cried even harder.
"Grandpa," he grabbed the hem of Donald's clothes, "she cursed my mother, she wanted my mother to die! She, she even tried to hit me!"
Liang Lin pursed her lips and raised her right hand.
“First of all, I did want to hit him. Secondly, I didn’t say she should die.”
“You said it! You said it! I heard you!” Edwin accused.
Liang Lin laughed. “Are you deaf? It seems the servants at home have spoiled you too much. How can a lowly bastard like you cause such a scene?”
She looked at the dazed Donald and cleared her throat. “I did mention his mother, but I didn’t curse her to die.”
Liang Lin’s smile grew increasingly wicked.
“I said… Miranda died, and Miranda was his mother, so I told him, ‘Your mother is dead.’ Is that wrong?”
Upon hearing this, Edwin’s crying stopped abruptly. He clearly hadn’t expected Liang Lin to continue insulting his mother in front of Donald.
Donald frowned upon hearing this. Liang Lin hadn't had a chance to tell him that Miranda was dead yet. Donald hadn't returned to the Langwendi residence in the past two days, and even if he did, he wouldn't be paying close attention to that useless piece of trash, Miranda.
"Liang Lin, what you said is indeed a bit excessive."
Donald patted Edwin's head. "This child is indeed a bit mischievous. It's fine if you scold or hit him, but it's best to show some respect for his mother."
"Ha~"
Liang Lin glanced at Edwin contemptuously, shrugged, and spread her hands. "It's not that I don't want to respect her, and I really didn't mean to insult his mother. I was just telling him the truth. Miranda is indeed dead. I was just informing him."
That mischievous smile made Donald frown.
"Liang Lin, you can't joke about things like this."
Edwin wanted to say something, but Liang Lin interrupted him.
“I wasn’t joking, and I didn’t mean to insult anyone,” she said nonchalantly, continuing to shrug. “If you don’t believe me, Liang Di will announce it at the dinner table later.”
Before leaving, Liang Lin turned back and added, “Oh, by the way, Miranda brought this on herself; she can’t blame anyone. Liang Di tried to save her, but just missed the best time to rescue her.”
Heh, just?
How can it not be a kind of just?
Liang Lin had never liked those naive, saintly types, and Liang Di knew this, so she told her everything about Miranda’s death. Upon hearing this, Liang Lin clapped her hands and cheered, exclaiming how satisfying it was.
“Congratulations, Liang Di, you’ve gotten your revenge.”
At the dinner table.
The atmosphere was somewhat heavy, and Edwin still had tears on his face.
Liang Lin didn’t tell Liang Di about how she had made that illegitimate child cry. However, seeing the various expressions on everyone's faces at the table, and noticing Donald's constant glancing at Liang Lin, Liang Di had already guessed pretty accurately.
Liang Lin's words were like poison; if it were her, it wouldn't be surprising.
Clatter!
Liang Lin put down her knife and fork and looked at the Tentacle Girl.
"Liang Di, is there something you forgot to announce?"
Liang Lin looked at the empty seat, drawing out her words meaningfully, "Have you forgotten? It seems we're missing a mouth to eat at this table, huh? Tsk tsk~ If it were me, I'd forget too. After all, her presence isn't very strong; a lowly maid, nothing worth noticing. But..."
She looked at Edwin, "But, who told her she's pregnant with the Langwendi family's child? A mother's status rises with her child, and some things need to be known by everyone."
Oh~ so that's the matter...
Liang Di, with a half-smile, put down her knife and fork and looked at Edwin.
"Ah, my dear brother, I was afraid you'd be too heartbroken, so I delayed telling you for a few days. But then I thought, keeping it from you isn't a good solution."
Liang Di spoke, casually twirling a strand of hair with her finger, her eyes lowered.
"You're all grown up now, a big boy. Mrs. Miranda's spirit in heaven wouldn't want you crying all the time. So, promise me, my good boy, after I announce this, you won't cry yourself to death."
Edwin stared blankly at the two wicked women before him, still unable to process it; in fact, he was unwilling to accept the fact that Miranda was dead.
“Grandpa, look at them, again…”
This time, Donald interrupted his grandson, looking at the two of them seriously. “What happened? Miranda is dead? Is she really dead?”
“Yes,” Liang Di nodded. “How could we joke about someone else’s life and death?”
Crash!
Plates and food on the table scattered all over the floor. Edwin pushed everything to the ground, his eyes wide with anger, pointing at Liang Di with a trembling hand.
“You… you’re lying!”
“My mother was fine just a few days ago, she wasn’t sick! How could she be dead?!”
“It must be you, you must be trying to bully me! Trying to scare me!”
Liang Lin crossed her arms and laughed loudly, a strangely eerie laugh.
“Is this what it means to be a useless person who refuses to accept the truth? No wonder she’s the child of a lowly maid, no wonder she’s an illegitimate child, she can really shock people.”
Even now, our villainous young lady was still being sarcastic.
Donald remained silent.
He knew the two weren't joking; Miranda was definitely dead, and utterly dead.
"Liang Di, you..." Donald began.
"I didn't kill her." Liang Di had anticipated what he was about to say and interrupted him directly.
"She brought it upon herself at the beach, Grandpa." She took a handkerchief from her pocket, wiped her lips, looked up, her gaze sharp, fixed on Donald. "I don't need to tell you, you should know what the beach is like, how dangerous it is."
Donald's straight back instantly slumped, bending like a deflated balloon.
"Recently, Miranda has been frequently going in and out of the palace, Grandpa. We all know who she's seeing. Spending so much time with that person, death was inevitable."
Liang Di stood up. "We could have predicted her fate, couldn't we? It was all her own doing."
Donald was silent for a moment.
"Yes." He nodded, and under Edwin's shocked gaze, said, "Edwin, your mother is really dead. The funeral will be held in the next few days."
