V2: Chapter 121: One Day I'll Be My Sister's Wife
"Mother, Miranda is dead."
Gael and Doris didn't attend Miranda's funeral.
"Hmm, such a stupid woman, it's normal for her to die." Doris remained nonchalant, fiddling with the roses in her hand. "Anyway, I didn't expect her to succeed much."
"Just let her try. If she succeeded, great; if she failed, so be it. Anyway, she had no power, no intelligence, and was of no use to me. Dead is dead."
"The reason I sent her to the beach wasn't because I trusted her, but because she was just a pawn, the least important one."
Gael still didn't understand what his mother had made Miranda do that could lead to the woman's death.
"Mother..."
Doris raised her hand. "Gael, I know what you want to ask me, but don't ask anymore. I won't tell you."
"Just remember, everything I've done is for you, to help you ascend the throne." Doris finally put down the rose in her hand, looking at her son with boundless love. "Mother would never harm you. Do you trust me?"
Gael answered almost without hesitation, "Of course I trust you, Mother."
"If you trust me, then don't ask."
"..."
Gael lowered his head.
"...Okay."
However, Doris now didn't know if she would win. Since Liang Di appeared, the longer time dragged on, the more uncertain she became.
But she still didn't want to completely destroy the city walls, because her son would also be in danger. Her son was so young, without any signs of mutation, only possessing some not-so-skilled swordsmanship. How could she protect him then?
There would be times when she wasn't by his side. Would she then have to watch her son die?
If only I hadn't given birth to him.
Doris regretted it deeply, terribly.
She often lamented why she faced this fate, why she was born a monster. Sometimes, she envied Liang Di; at least… this person represented humanity, didn't she?
She also knew that if she didn't work for "them," she would die. Many unseen eyes were watching her from dark, damp corners.
"Liang Di, have you noticed something?" Liang Lin looked at Liang Di and suddenly spoke.
After Miranda's death, the Langwendi mansion fell into an unprecedented silence.
Liang Di, puzzled, asked, "What is it?"
Liang Lin suddenly revealed a strange smile, a smile that seemed to contain a hint of smugness.
"Have you noticed that we're about the same height now?"
Yes, that's right.
Liang Lin.
She.
She'd suddenly grown taller.
If before Liang Di was half a head taller, now Liang Lin was up to Liang Di's eyebrows.
Thinking this, Liang Di increased the distance between herself and Liang Lin, giving her a once-over.
It really did seem true.
Thinking about it, it was a little annoying. If they were about the same height… she felt she couldn't intimidate the other person with her presence.
Before, Liang Di had never cared about her height, after all, she had a height advantage. But now, seeing Liang Lin growing taller and taller while she herself hadn't grown any taller, she felt a little unbalanced.
"Sister Liang Lin, how come you suddenly grew taller?" Liang Di frowned, her gaze unconsciously falling on the other's shoes. She figured Liang Lin must be wearing platform shoes.
"Why are you looking at my feet?"
Liang Lin noticed the other's gaze, frowned, and understood what she meant.
Eager to prove she wasn't wearing platform shoes, she immediately pulled off her shoes and stockings, revealing her smooth, fair feet. She shook her stockings—nothing underneath. Then she shook her shoes three times; still nothing.
"See?" Liang Lin smirked triumphantly, straightening her back even more, hands on her hips. "I told you I'd grown taller! Liang Di, why haven't you grown?"
"....."
She truly hadn't expected to be mocked about her height one day. Liang Di wanted to argue, but seeing her sister's happy face, she decided it didn't matter.
As long as she was happy, that was enough.
"Hmm... I think, with Liang Lin's temperament (the refined elegance), she is indeed a bit taller than me, and we look more compatible standing together."
Liang Di didn't play by the rules. After praising her, she took the other's arm, rested her head on her shoulder, and sweetly whined, "This way... I look more like Liang Lin's wife."
"Of course... uh? Wait a minute?"
Liang Lin was dizzy from the compliment, but then she realized, wait a minute, was she being taken advantage of?
Wife....
While Liang Lin was still caught off guard, Liang Di pressed on.
She raised her head, staring intently at Liang Lin with her captivating sapphire blue eyes. "Ah? Does that mean you'd rather be the wife, Liang Lin? Then, then, if you like that, I could be the husband or something..."
"How could I possibly like being the wife?!"
Liang Lin's competitive spirit was instantly ignited. "Of course I'd rather be a husband, Liang Di! I feel you're more suited to the role of wife."
Upon hearing this, a triumphant smile instantly bloomed on Liang Di's face.
"Hmm~ I knew it~ I'll definitely be a good wife to you, Liang Lin~" Saying this, she tightened her grip on Liang Lin's arm. "Liang Lin, you'll definitely be an excellent husband."
This barrage of praise left Liang Lin completely bewildered.
Liang Di had a firm grasp on this wicked young lady's psychology. She showered Liang Lin with compliments, leaving Liang Lin completely speechless, even forgetting to pull her arm away from Liang Di's embrace.
"Uh, you… I don't consider you my wife yet. You're saying this so early? How can a young lady like you be so unreserved…" Liang Lin's face flushed slightly, and she awkwardly scratched her head.
Hm? Yet?
Oh?
In other words, she just doesn't consider me her wife now, but maybe in the future.
Liang Di quickly noticed the loophole in her words, and her smile widened.
"Sister Liang Lin, you need to know this."
"Loving someone means you can't maintain your composure. My love is just that passionate and obvious. Once I've made up my mind, I will never give up."
I believe that there's no ice that fire can't melt, and neither can Sister Liang Lin and I.
