V2: Chapter 147: A Bickering Couple

“Actually, since Carol is my child, no matter what she is, I will raise her for life,” Liang Lin said.

This wasn't just to comfort Liang Di; Liang Lin truly meant it. She was, after all, a piece of her own flesh and blood. Even if she were a monster, she couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

Carol was born with a small tentacle. Liang Lin thought she would always be a tentacle. But then she became a normal human child, and all her tentacle features disappeared. Whether she would regain them was unknown. However, from beginning to end, Liang Lin never considered abandoning her because she was a tentacle, nor did she show the slightest disgust.

After all, how many mothers in the world would truly despise their own children? If one did, that mother must be a demon.

Liang Di was smart enough to understand that while Liang Lin's words were true, there was definitely an element of comfort involved.

“No, Sister Liang Lin, I wasn’t being stubborn or anything. I meant what I said.” Liang Di looked up at her sister. “I really don’t want Carol to be a monster like me. As a human-monster hybrid, we have to endure so much.”

Liang Lin understood this.

It was like being the youngest son of the Kronin family from birth. She was the only male in her generation. In the Soteland Empire, where women weren’t allowed to fight, her parents and elders placed all their hopes on her. Liang Lin felt that if it weren’t for her exceptional swordsmanship and willingness to endure hardship, she might have been driven to the brink of collapse by the pressure from her family.

“Hmm, I understand.”

Liang Lin thought back for a moment, then suddenly remembered that she had never mentioned to Liang Di the scene when Carol was born.

Right, why was Carol born as a small tentacle, and then gradually became a normal human child? That doesn’t seem very scientific.

.... Well, since monster exists in this world, it's already unscientific enough.

Liang Lin thought for a moment, then finally asked, "Liang Di, I don't think I've told you before that Carol was born as small tentacle, and only gradually became a normal child. Does that mean she has tentacles-like features, or not? Will she turn into tentacles again later?"

After asking, Liang Di was also stunned. She had never heard of such a scenario before, nor had she seen it in any books. She was somewhat confused by the question.

"You mean Carol was born with small tentacle?"

"Hiss~"

Liang Di gasped, her face full of disbelief. "That's unlikely. Normally, such a scenario wouldn't happen. In our Langwendi family, those with mutations only develop them around the age of fourteen, which is considered relatively early. They're not born with mutations... that's not true."

Hearing this, Liang Lin's brows furrowed.

“Maybe you just don’t know. Try looking it up in a book. Don’t you have many books on this topic? Look it up, maybe you’ll find out. The way you're describing it makes it sound like some new anomaly has occurred, which is quite frightening.”

Liang Lin thought for a moment and continued, “You should go look it up now. If you don’t know, ask Octaville. She definitely knows. Hearing you say that makes me a little worried about Carol.”

Without delay, Liang Di immediately called Laura and Gladys, instructing them to draw a teleportation circle on the spot to go inside the magic tower and ask Octaville what was going on. She then took Bellica and Liang Lin to another study of hers.

Upon opening the door, Liang Lin was stunned by the scene before her.

Come to think of it, she seemed to have never opened this door before. She wasn't a particularly curious person, especially since she'd seen this room before, and she remembered it wasn't like this.

Hmm, if she thought about it carefully, Liang Di hadn't moved into this room yet when she first saw it. That explained it; Liang Di had moved in and turned this room into her other study.

Liang Lin didn't have time to ask more questions before Liang Di dragged her to find books.

"I'll look for the middle bookshelf. Liang Lin, you and Bellica can each look for the left and right shelves respectively."

After saying this, Liang Di plunged into the bookshelves, flipping through them left and right, throwing the books she found directly on the floor.

“Don’t worry about the book being messy. Just have Gladys clean it up if it gets messy.”

Gladys, who was watching the Laura draw the magic circle, sneezed violently. She rubbed her nose and muttered softly, “Have I been eating less blood lately? My resistance is so low! I’m sneezing too.”

Laura ignored her; she was in a hurry to draw the teleportation circle.

After drawing the teleportation circle, she grabbed Gladys’s collar, and amidst Gladys’s dissatisfied grumbling and her little hands flailing in the air, the two arrived at the outer edge of the Magic Tower.

“Every time you use the teleportation circle, you’re like this. Haven’t you gotten used to it yet?”

Laura silently complained, watching Gladys vomit against a tree.

Gladys wiped her mouth, took a deep breath, and then exhaled heavily.

"When are you going to improve this teleportation circle? It makes me dizzy every time we use on it, and it even makes me throw up the blood I just drank! What a waste!"

Laura was speechless and didn't want to waste any more words with this idiot. She prepared to grab the other woman's collar again, but this time, Gladys dodged her. Gladys stood with her hands on her hips, smiling triumphantly at her.

"See? I dodged it this time. People learn from their mistakes. You can't pull my collar again! I'm telling you, I've learned my lesson. I can dodge it every time... Eh? Ahhh!!"

A pig-like scream exploded in the air. Gladys clutched her head, staggering after Laura, pleading, "Laura! Okay, okay, let me go! I know I was wrong, I won't be so cocky anymore!"

It turned out that after realizing her hand hadn't reached Gladys's collar, Laura had simply spun around and grabbed Gladys's two conspicuous pigtails.
