V2: Chapter 148: The Library Outside the Magic Tower
“Miss Liang Lin and Miss Liang Di must be getting impatient. We're here on a mission today, so please don't be so slow.”
When Octaville heard this news, she was a little stunned. She touched her chin and gasped, “Hiss~ I've never seen anything about this before. Come with me to the library and let's look for it.”
The library's exterior was simple and elegant, with vines climbing the stone walls, as if a gift from nature. Stepping inside, a rich scent of ink filled the air, refreshing the mind and spirit.
“So it's outside. I thought it was inside the Magic Tower.”
The moment Octaville pushed open the library door, Gladys's mouth dropped open.
The interior was spacious and tall. Various magical crystals hung from the ceiling, emitting a soft light that illuminated the entire library. Under the light, the rows of neat bookshelves appeared even more solemn and sacred. The bookshelves were filled with all sorts of magic books, some with ornate covers, others simple and unadorned, but all radiating powerful magic.
A little further inside the library was a large, round stone table, covered with various strange magical tools and scrolls. This was a sanctuary for magicians to exchange ideas and discuss magic.
When magicians sat around the stone table, their conversations and incantations intertwined, creating a unique melody that echoed in the air.
There weren't many magicians present today, but a few scattered around. Upon seeing Octaville, they all removed their hats and greeted her.
"Good afternoon, Tower Master."
"Tower Master, you've arrived."
"Tower Master..."
Octaville nodded slightly, responding to each one.
She continued deeper inside.
In a corner of the library, there were some quiet reading areas. Comfortable chairs and soft cushions were provided for magicians to read and study in peace. Here, time seemed to slow down and become tranquil, broken only by the sound of turning pages and the occasional whisper of magic incantations.
"Wow~ Laura, this is my first time in a place like this," Gladys whispered in Laura's ear. "This place is huge! Have you been here before?"
Laura, her face tense, pushed Gladys away.
"This is the library, keep your voice down."
Gladys, feeling wronged, shut her mouth tightly; she thought she was being quiet enough.
At this moment, Gladys's gaze shifted to the side.
Moonlight streamed through the half-open window, illuminating a desk and casting a mysterious silver veil over the quiet space. The magical books on the shelves seemed to come alive, glowing faintly.
Where did the moonlight come from in broad daylight?
Gladys's gaze slowly moved upwards, and she couldn't resist nudging Laura again.
“Laura, look! It’s daytime, but why can we see such a bright, sparkling moon from here? It’s amazing! And it seems like only this window shows the moon, stars, and nighttime; the other windows just show normal daytime. I wonder what it will be like at night? Will this window turn into daytime?”
Laura’s gaze was also drawn to this. Unable to explain, she could only purse her lips and urge Gladys to hurry up and catch up, urging her to stop talking nonsense.
In the center of the library, a huge crystal ball floated in the air, constantly rotating and emitting a dazzling light. Hidden within the crystal ball were countless mysterious runes and patterns, constantly changing as the ball rotated.
Occasionally, a gentle breeze would blow, causing the books on the shelves to rustle softly, like whispers. These sounds intertwined, forming a peculiar melody that captivated the listener.
In this atmosphere, time seemed to slow down and become tranquil, allowing one to forget the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
Deep within the library, an invisible magic door opened. Only the tower master and a few veteran magicians could sense its presence. When a magician touched the door, it slowly opened, revealing another fantastical world.
Gladys stared, mesmerized.
"Don't stare at them, it's all an illusion," Octaville warned.
Gladys didn't hear her, drool dripping from her mouth. Finally, Laura slapped her to bring her back to reality.
"We're here."
The illusion vanished, revealing a rather conventional library scene before them, with three human-faced women in skirts.
"It's right here. Wait for me, I'm looking for that book about Cthulhu reproduction."
It was a thick book, placed on the table with a heavy thud.
"Phew~"
"Logically speaking, I've read this book twice from beginning to end, and I've never seen the part Liang Lin described. It's really strange. Could it be that I missed something?"
"So thick?!" Gladys pointed to the heavy book. "If you finish it, it'll probably be the morning of the third day, right? You'd better hurry."
Laura punched the foolish vampire princess.
"Idiot, how could the Tower Master read like that?"
Octaville ignored their playful banter. She placed her hand on the book's cover and slowly closed her eyes. For a moment, it seemed as if a gentle breeze blew by, ruffling Octaville's long hair, before returning to stillness.
Octaville slowly opened her eyes.
“There’s no such topic. It’s too strange. It’s impossible for something to be born with tentacles and then slowly transform into a human.”
“Could it be recorded in other books?”
Octaville picked and chose, bringing over several more books and reading them in the same way, but to no avail.
Finally, she had no choice.
“You guys go back and get Carol.... never mind, I’ll go with you.”
Octaville followed Laura, and Gladys, and others back to the Langwendi mansion. As soon as they entered, Liang Lin rushed in and asked, “How did it go? Did you find anything?”
“No,” Octaville shook her head. “Go and bring Carol over, let me see her.”
Liang Lin called Bellica over and asked her to bring Carol down.
The little one had just fallen asleep and was suddenly woken up. She rubbed her eyes unhappily, puffing out her cheeks, not wanting to talk to anyone, not even smiling when she saw her mother, Liang Lin.
Octaville took the child, held her in her arms, placed her hand on Carol's forehead, and closed her eyes again.
A flash of white light.
