V2: Chapter 149: Should She Call Me Grandma or Auntie?
"There's nothing unusual about her. She doesn't have monster blood; she's just a normal human child. However, she has a strong talent for magic. She'll definitely thrive in her studies. When she's six or seven, I'll occasionally send her to the Magic Tower, and I'll personally teach her magic."
Octaville withdrew her hand, looked at the little girl in her arms, and gasped.
To be fair, this child looks remarkably like Liang Di and Liang Lin, especially her pair of deep blue eyes, as clear and bright as Liang Di's, blinking gently, making her incredibly endearing.
“This.... I really can’t explain why she was born with a tentacle, but now she’s a normal human child.”
Octaville frowned, her brows so furrowed they could trap a fly. Carol, in her arms, held her hand, giggling and making Octaville’s heart melt instantly.
She is just too adorable… well, putting aside how noisy she is.
“But don’t worry, she’s very strong, extremely healthy, with no illnesses. We probably won’t understand the tentacle thing for now, but we can be sure the child is fine. You don’t need to worry too much; we’ll figure it out later.”
Octaville hugged Carol tightly, unwilling to let go. The little one was very well-behaved and lovable, always smiling and playing with Octaville’s fingers.
Carol was already over three years old, smarter than other children her age, and spoke clearly, no longer mumbled.
"Auntie."
She called Octaville "Auntie."
Octaville was bewildered, feeling something was off.
Liang Lin and Liang Di both felt something was off, but couldn't quite put their finger on it.
The three looked at each other for a moment, and finally, Bellica was the first to realize.
"Miss Liang Lin, Miss Liang Di, what do you think... what should Carol call the Tower Master?"
Oh...!
The three finally looked enlightened. Liang Di covered her mouth with her folding fan, but her flushed face showed how happy she was. Liang Lin couldn't hold back and laughed out loud.
Octaville, belatedly realizing what was happening, plopped down in her chair, laughing so hard she doubled over, making the chair creak loudly.
Seeing the adults laughing so happily, Carol, though not understanding what was happening, giggled along.
Right, what should Carol call Octaville?
First, Octaville is Liang Di's adoptive mother. Although Liang Di hasn't called Octaville "Mom" since growing up, theoretically, Octaville raised Liang Di and is indeed her adoptive mother.
However, Octaville also has another identity: she's Hilary's wife, and Hilary is Liang Lin's sister. Theoretically, Liang Lin should also call her "Sister-in-law."
Following this convoluted logic, should Carol call Octaville "Grandma" or "Auntie"?
“At my age, being a grandmother seems a bit too much…” Octaville had just stopped laughing when the thought of Carol calling her “Grandma” made her burst into laughter again.
“No, the generational order feels so messed up! What should she call me?”
Liang Lin stopped laughing, thought for a moment, and finally looked at Liang Di, who was trembling with suppressed laughter. “What do you think she should call Octaville?”
Liang Di closed her fan, the blush on her face not yet completely gone.
“Let’s just call her Auntie. Calling her Grandma… makes her sound too old. Let Carol call her Grandma when Octaville gets old.”
Gladys, listening intently, was a little confused. She nudged Laura with her elbow, then pointed to her chest with her index finger.
“So, what do you think Carol should call her? Shouldn’t she call her 'Sister'? They’re discussing it so intensely, it seems pretty easy. The Tower Master is so young, she can just call her 'Sister', just like she does with us.”
Laura: “.....”
Sometimes, she really didn’t want to talk to this idiot next to her.
Seeing Laura’s lack of response, Gladys reached out and kept poking the nun beside her.
“Laura, Laura…”
“Gladys, don’t talk now. I’ll take you to eat some blood clots later.” Laura quickly covered the vampire’s mouth. “Can you just be quiet for a bit? This isn’t a place for the two of us.”
Sigh, she really has no tact.
Liang Di pinched Carol’s chubby little face. “You can this person 'Auntie'. She’s your Liang Lin Mama’s sister-in-law.”
Liang Di thought that Carol wouldn’t understand this convoluted explanation, but unexpectedly, after blinking a couple of times, Carol suddenly blurted out, “So she's Liang Lin Mama's Sister’s wife?”
“Uh…”
This stunned everyone present, including the usually composed Bellica.
“Who taught her that word?” Liang Lin pointed at Carol in Octaville’s arms in astonishment.
Everyone’s gaze darted around the room, and finally, almost unanimously, it all landed on Gladys, who was standing in the corner.
Gladys: "?"
"No, no, no, it wasn't me! I didn't teach her that word!" Gladys's face turned deathly pale.
Her complexion was already pale enough, but now, terrified, she was completely bloodless, like a corpse.
No one around her spoke, still looking at her with those probing eyes.
Gladys's voice trembled with a sob, "It really wasn't me, everyone! I really didn't teach her those words! Although, although I did catch frogs and snakes for her to play with, but, but I didn't teach her those words!"
Good grief, she just blurted out her own misdeeds.
"I knew it.... never mind, I knew it all along. You didn't catch frogs for her to play with after that, did you?" Liang Lin asked.
Gladys shook her head violently, raising her little hands in a gesture of surrender. "No, no, I really won't anymore! That's about drinking blood, I absolutely won't lie!"
"Then, who taught her that word?"
Carol ignored the adults' surprise and continued, "But why did Liang Lin's Mama's sister find a wife, not a husband? Isn't it said that women find husbands and men find wives? So, is Auntie a man who looks like a woman?"
"....."
For a moment, everyone fell silent again.
No.
"You..." Liang Lin's voice trembled slightly.
She truly hadn't expected that Carol's first long speech would be filled with such a bombshell question.
Carol tilted her head, looking at her mothers with confusion. "Then, is Auntie a man or a woman?"
Octaville: "...Pfft."
"Hahahaha~"
A hearty laugh echoed in the room. Octaville gently rubbed the child's head, her voice exceptionally gentle. "Silly child, look at me, of course I'm a woman."
"Then, why are you Mama's sister's wife?" Carol pouted, fidgeting with her little hands. "Is it because Mama's sister is a man? No, Mama calls her 'sister,' so she must be a woman."
She seemed completely bewildered, clenching her little fists and punching her head, letting out a couple of soft whimpers.
Octaville was very patient. She said to Carol, "It doesn't necessarily have to be men finding women to be wives, or women finding men to be husbands. It's perfectly normal. That's why I married your Mama's sister. We're both women."
At this point, Octaville pointed to Liang Lin and Liang Di, "You see, you have two mothers, right? Liang Lin Mama and Liang Di Mommy. They're both women, but they gave birth to you, so you have two mothers. It's perfectly normal, as normal as people needing to eat and drink."
"That's easy to understand, little one. You'll understand when you grow up."
Carol was innocent and naive, but after saying this, she nodded vigorously. Her next words were astonishing, leaving everyone present speechless.
"Then, I want to be like Mommy, finding a woman like Mama to be my wife."
"....."
The air suddenly went silent.
Liang Di: "Then, then you have to find a woman just like your Mama. Don't you dare try to steal your Mama from me."
After saying that, she hugged Liang Lin's arm, clinging to her like a teddy bear.
Liang Lin: "?"
Wait, is this person crazy? Why is she jealous of a child?
"Tsk, restrain yourself in front of the child." Liang Lin shook her arm a couple of times.
Liang Di was afraid her little darling would get chilled.
Octaville, however, gave Carol a thumbs up, adding fuel to the fire, "Good, good, good. So young, yet so ambitious. Imagine how you'll be when you grow up! You'll definitely marry a beautiful wife someday, um... as beautiful as your aunt, my wife, Hilary."
Well, even in this situation, she can't resist showing off her affection. No wonder she's the henpecked Tower Master.
Carol clenched her little fist and raised it in the air, as if cheering herself on.
"Then I want to grow up quickly, I want to get married too."
"Pfft."
"Hahahahahahahahaha."
I really couldn't hold back anymore. This kid who just learned to talk is so funny, she can say anything.
She just opened her mouth and started babbling nonsense, so childish and cute, with that babyish voice.
