V2: Chapter 151: The Filial Daughter Who Killed Her Father

Although Liang Lin didn't understand business, she could hear the excitement in the other person's eyes and the claim that they were richer than royalty.

Tsk, she really had to give a token compliment.

So, Liang Lin gave Liang Di a thumbs up and said, "Awesome."

She really didn't know what to say; it seemed like that was all she could say.

However, if it was Liang Lin, it was normal.

At lunchtime.

Now, only Liang Lin and Liang Di remained at Langwendi's mansion. Old Man Donald had taken Edwin away to another city to relax.

What could escape the old man's eyes? He vaguely sensed what Liang Di was planning, but he didn't say anything or care. All he wanted in his life was to do as he pleased. Now his son was dying, his son's wife was dead, and only his grandson and granddaughter remained. The only thing he could do was protect his grandson from being killed by his granddaughter, so he had to take him away.

As for what Liang Di wanted to do, he could probably guess most of it.

“That's the path she chose herself; I have no right to interfere. Besides, the Langwendi family has existed for so long; one day it will perish. Let the future generations manage this family.”

These were Donald's words to the butler before leaving.

Now, although the head of the Langwendi family hasn't been officially announced, everyone in the family, from collateral relatives to servants, basically knows that Liang Di is now the de facto head of the Langwendi family, the future head of the family without a doubt.

However, there's one thing they still don't understand: why are Liang Lin and Liang Di, who aren't related by blood and didn't grow up together, so close now? Liang Di even calls Liang Lin "sister" every day.

Liang Lin and Liang Di are happy to have some peace and quiet, no longer having to face Edwin's face every day. That guy is already a teenager, still so noisy, spoiled by Miranda, like a little baby.

After dinner.

Liang Di gently wiped her lips with a handkerchief, her eyes lowered, lost in thought.

When she stood up, she said to Liang Lin, who had just finished eating, "It's been so long since I visited Duke Auston. Let's go see him one last time. Do you want to go? Sister, if you don't want to go, I'll go with Bellica instead."

Liang Lin was taken aback.

One last time?

The implication was clear.

Liang Lin waved her hand dismissively, picked up her glass, and took a casual sip.

"I'm not going. Seeing that face makes me feel unlucky. You guys go. Just let me know the good news after you've finished."

With that, she went to find other snacks.

"It's not like I absolutely have to go," Liang Di thought, not caring too much. She beckoned to Bellica beside her, "Let's go, Bellica. Some things need to be settled. Dragging this out must be causing Duke Auston a lot of pain, right?"

Squeak~

The door opened, and a stench assaulted the nostrils.

The candles weren't lit, and the curtains were drawn, plunging the room into darkness—not a pleasant place for a patient.

Liang Di pinched her nose in disgust and left the room, saying to Bellica, "Go get the candles. I'll get some incense and a handkerchief. I can't stand this smell."

"Yes, Miss."

Bellica couldn't stand the smell either. She stepped inside the room, then immediately retreated. She looked at Liang Di, her eyes filled with a mixture of grievance and fear—a fear she had never felt in any of the countless dangers she had faced.

“Miss Liang Di, I’d like a handkerchief too, and if possible, a scented candle.”

“.....”

“Then let’s go, come with me to get them.” Liang Di understood; there was really no way to force someone to do something like that. The smell was so overpowering, it felt like it was going to rip her skull open.

The candle was lit, and Liang Di finally saw the scene in the room.

Inside, the heavy curtains were tightly drawn, blocking out the light and fresh air, making the entire space feel oppressive and stifling.

Even though she covered her mouth and nose, the indescribable stench in the air still entered her nostrils. The smell seemed to be a mixture of the musty smell of old things, rotting fabric, and the smoke of unburnt candles. This pungent and nauseating smell could penetrate the nasal cavity and reach the depths of one’s soul, causing extreme discomfort.

Liang Di’s brows furrowed tightly, like a twisted rope.

The room was still filled with various antiques and decorations, but they brought no beauty; instead, their lack of organization and maintenance made them appear cluttered and disorganized. Dust floated in the dim light, adding to the room's decadent atmosphere.

Scattered on the ornate carpet were various items, from exquisite porcelain to worn books and discarded jewelry, piled up haphazardly, seemingly telling a story of past glory and present decay.

The murals on the walls were blurred and faded, their colors dull and lifeless, covered in something unseen, looking rather disgusting. In the corner fireplace, remnants of burnt wood remained, unable to dispel the room's chill and stench.

Even a normal person would feel oppressed living here, let alone a patient bedridden for a long time, unable to care for themselves.

He became the most conspicuous sight in the room.

Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, dappling his body, but it couldn't dispel the aura of despondency emanating from him. His face was as pale as paper, his cheeks sunken, and his once bright eyes now appeared empty, lifeless, and cloudy.

His body was emaciated, reduced to skin and bones; the plump figure once nurtured by money was long gone. He lay on the bed, his body trembling slightly, his limbs limply hanging over the edge of the bed, his fingers long and pale, seemingly devoid of life.

"Duke Auston, you look no different from dead, don't you?" Liang Di approached with a grin, her hands behind her back. "To be honest, I really didn't want to come in when I was standing at the door. The smell made me want to vomit. I really don't know how you've lived in this place for so long."

Auston couldn't speak, but the moment he saw Liang Di, his eyes sharpened.

That was clearly his daughter, yet at this moment, he looked as if he were seeing his longtime enemy, his eyes wide and bulging, almost popping out of their sockets.

"I don't want to waste words with you anymore. I'm here today to tell you some good news," Liang Di said with a smile, introducing Bellica. "You are, after all, my father. As a person with a conscience, I certainly can't betray my own family for the greater good. But, if it's someone else who has a grudge against you, I can't care."

After saying this, Liang Di nodded to Bellica. "Bellica, go and avenge your lover."

She already knew about Bellica's affair with her mother, Meredith; Octaville had told her.

Bellica's hand holding the knife paused, somewhat surprised. Clearly, she didn't know Liang Di already knew about her affair with Madam Meredith, and most likely, she hadn't expected Liang Di to be so unconcerned about it.

Bellica smiled at Liang Di. Since Meredith's death, she had become a taciturn person, the stern head maid in everyone's eyes.

Liang Di left the room.

Inside, only Bellica and Auston remained.

Bellica didn't rush to kill Auston, but stared at the man for a long time.

"Duke Auston, do you know why Madam Meredith never let you touch her?"

She spoke calmly, revealing a cruel truth that was painful for Auston.

"Because she fell in love with me. We're the only ones who truly belong together. In the days you weren't here, I was the one sleeping in her bed. She gave me all her warmth."

"I know you don't love her, but she's your wife."

"Duke Auston, hahahahahaha~ You didn't expect this, did you? The person she ultimately cheated on you with was a woman, and a lowly maid at that! That arrogant woman who never loved you loved a lowly maid! Hahahahahaha~ Madam Meredith never loved you, you piece of trash, hahahahahaha~"

It was a maniacal laugh, loud enough for Liang Di outside the door to hear.

Yes, as a man, as a duke, even if he didn't love his wife, he couldn't tolerate her infidelity, let alone that her affair was with a lowly maid. To him, it was an utter disgrace.

Bellica, her laughter still lingering, looked at Auston lying on the bed, his eyes wide and bloodshot.

"So? Your Grace, are you satisfied with the truth? If not, that's alright. You'll soon know more details, but not me telling you. It will be MY lover—Meredith."

"Pfft!"

Warm blood spurted out, landing on Bellica's hands and face. But Bellica seemed oblivious, mechanically continuing to raise and swing the knife.

"Pfft!"

"Pfft!"

Auston's body trembled. He died with his eyes open, his death filled with resentment and unrepentant humiliation.

After more than twenty stabs, Bellica finally lowered her weapon.

She slowly squatted down, opened the pendant around her neck, and stroked the face of the beautiful woman depicted in it with her fingertips, murmuring, "Madam, wait for me a little longer, just a little longer. Liang Di, your daughter hasn't fulfilled her wish yet, but it will be soon, it will be soon."

Outside the door.

Hearing no movement from inside, Liang Di pushed the door open again and saw Bellica squatting on the floor, muttering to herself as if possessed. She ignored Bellica and walked straight to Auston's side.
