V2: Chapter 176: The Tower Master and the Traitor
The magicians, dressed in their finest attire, all emerged.
“I presume everyone knows what happened at the beach.”
“Follow me, let’s go to the meeting room.”
Night fell, and the magic tower was silent, save for the echoing footsteps of the magicians in the empty hall.
Octaville’s brow furrowed, her eyes revealing an unwavering resolve. She knew that finding the traitor among these magicians with whom she had lived for so many years would be no easy task, but for the sake of creating a utopian kingdom, she had to do it.
Octaville summoned all the magicians, including apprentices, assistants, and several senior elders, gathering them in the tower’s largest meeting room. The room was brightly lit by candlelight, reflecting tension and confusion on everyone’s faces.
Liang Lin, Liang Di, and Hilary stood below the stage, watching Octaville. At this moment, Octaville resembled a solemn statue.
Octaville stood atop the high platform, surveying her surroundings. Her voice was steady and powerful:
"Gentlemen, the recent series of unusual events within the Seaside Magic Tower have deeply troubled me. Someone among us has betrayed our trust, attempting to destroy everything we collectively protect. Today, I demand that you all be honest with each other and jointly expose this enemy lurking in the shadows."
As her words fell, the meeting room erupted in commotion. The attendees exchanged bewildered glances.
Octaville knew that direct questioning would be futile, so she decided to employ a more subtle and complex method—a trial of the mind.
In truth, Octaville was reluctant to use this method; it would consume a great deal of magical energy and have a significant backlash against her.
Octaville slowly walked to the center of the meeting room, closed her eyes, and gently waved her hands. An invisible force began to surge in the air, gradually weaving into a complex web of the mind. This trial will delve into the depths of each magician's soul, probing their thoughts, emotions, and motivations, but without invading their privacy; it will only reveal the darker aspects hidden within their hearts.
As the trial began, the atmosphere in the conference room grew increasingly tense. Everyone felt a scrutiny from the depths of their souls, as if an invisible gaze was dissecting their every thought. Time seemed to freeze, each second filled with uncertainty and tension.
Finally, the trial ended. Octaville opened her eyes, her gaze piercing, looking directly at the crowd below.
Her voice remained calm, yet carried an undeniable authority.
"I have found the answer."
Everyone held their breath. Octaville slowly approached a young magician who usually appeared gentle and humble. A flicker of panic and despair crossed his face.
Octaville did not immediately reveal his identity, but said softly, "Betrayal is not unforgivable, but only if you face your mistakes and are willing to pay the price."
She raised her head.
“Tell me, why did you choose this path?”
The young mage trembled, finally lowering his head, his voice hoarse as he revealed the truth—he had been tempted by external forces, driven by greed for power and wealth, and had become a traitor.
Octaville sighed upon hearing this. She knew that everyone harbored desires, but how one faced and overcame them was the key to determining one's true character.
Although she thought so,... Octavian's gaze sharpened.
“Your betrayal is unforgivable.”
“You betrayed me, betrayed the Magic Tower, and betrayed yourself.”
Octaville's voice was deep and powerful, each word striking the traitor's heart like a heavy hammer.
“Today, in the name of magical flames, I will cleanse you, this stain within the Tower.”
Octaville appeared incredibly holy at this moment; she was tall, with striking features. The way she's raising her hands now makes her look like an angel, but sadly, she has no wings.
"If Octaville is an angel, then she must be a fallen angel."
That's what Hilary once commented.
Before she finished speaking, Octaville waved her hands lightly, and a powerful surge of magical energy instantly filled the air. A dazzling magical flame appeared out of thin air in her palms, a deep blue flame containing boundless destructive power. With a thought from Octaville, the flame instantly transformed into a streak of light, heading straight for the traitor.
The traitor's face changed drastically upon seeing this. He desperately cast spells to defend himself, but it was all in vain. The magical flame, as if it possessed a spirit, easily penetrated his defenses and directly attached itself to his body.
Instantly, the traitor's body was engulfed by the raging flames. He let out a shrill scream, trying to struggle and escape, but it was all too late.
Within the flames, the traitor's figure gradually twisted and melted, finally turning into a wisp of smoke and dissipating into the night sky.
Throughout the entire process, Octaville's expression remained calm, as if she were merely performing a routine task. However, deep within her heart lay an unspeakable heaviness and sorrow—after all, she had trusted the magicians within the Magic Tower so much.
But traitors must die!
With the traitor gone, the tower returned to its usual tranquility. Octaville stood on the edge of the rooftop, gazing at the distant starry sky, her mind filled with countless thoughts.
"No, there must be other traitors."
Octaville now distrusts everyone in the Tower of Magic.
This mole is more deeply hidden and acts more cautiously, causing Octaville's magic to reach a stalemate.
However, as an experienced Tower Master, Octaville is not discouraged. She knows that to find this hidden enemy, she must rely on more sophisticated and complex methods.
Only that one.
This mole is more deeply hidden and acts more cautiously; that magic seems useless to her, causing Octaville's investigation to reach a stalemate.
Is there no mole left?
Impossible.
That mole is so weak; there must be others cooperating with him.
As an experienced Tower Master, Octaville is not discouraged. She knows that to find this hidden enemy, she must rely on more sophisticated and complex methods.
Therefore, Octaville decides to use her most proficient magical skills to find this mole.
Octaville smiles, raises her hands, and finds the center position again.
"Now that the traitor has been found and killed, we should celebrate! Celebrate our Magic Tower, celebrate me, celebrate your Tower Master!"
Octaville spoke like a pyramid scheme leader.
"Let me demonstrate my best magic trick."
