V3: Chapter 12: Praying for Blessings
Arriving at the Sacred Tree, the commoners slowed their pace, speaking softly, as if afraid to disturb the tranquility and solemnity. They circled the sacred tree, some kneeling, some standing, hands clasped in prayer, eyes closed, murmuring softly.
Seeing this scene, Liang Lin and the others also unconsciously slowed their pace.
A faint fragrance of flowers mingled with the scent of wood, and an occasional breeze rustled the leaves, as if nature itself was responding to the people's prayers. Sunlight filtered through the dense foliage, casting dappled shadows, adding a touch of warmth and mystery to this sacred scene.
"Should we do what they do?"
Although Carol seemed a bit mischievous, she didn't dare to be too presumptuous in this matter and certainly wanted to respect other people's customs. Therefore, she lowered her voice and stopped making a sound.
"If you want, you can; if you don't, just watch," Liang Lin replied.
Praying is just making a wish, which is better than trusting God; at least it's just a way to express one's own desires. Everyone has wishes. Silently recite your wish; small wishes, through your own efforts, can be fulfilled. As for big wishes, perhaps they can be fulfilled through many, many years of effort?
Liang Lin closed her eyes and silently made a wish in her heart.
"I hope our empire can be more peaceful and prosperous. I hope my family and friends can be healthy, happier, and freer."
She was a little greedy, making two wishes, but both of them, she thought, could come true.
After making her wishes, Liang Lin slowly opened her eyes. She looked at Liang Di beside her and found that the girl was still with her eyes closed, seemingly making a wish as well.
She wondered what she wished for.
After Liang Di slowly opened her eyes, Liang Lin, unable to contain her curiosity, nudged her ribs with her elbow. "Hey, what did you wish for?"
Liang Di gripped Liang Lin's hand tightly.
"Of course it's about you, Liang Lin! I love you the most. My wish is to be with you, forever and ever and ever!"
Ah!!
Why is this guy talking so loudly? Everyone around can hear her, right?
Liang Lin felt her cheeks burning. She turned her head slightly to observe the reactions of those around her, only to bump into the gossipy faces of Hilary and Octaville. Instead of panicking and turning away when they noticed Liang Lin looking at them, they met her gaze with an "I understand, we all understand" expression.
Liang Lin: "....."
You guys understand nothing!
"Liang Di, keep your voice down next time. Everyone around us can hear you."
"Okay..."
Actually, Liang Di was doing it on purpose. She wanted everyone around her to hear; she wanted everyone to know that she and her sister Liang Lin were a couple. Even if they were both from the Langwendi family, even if they were both girls, so what?
That's what Liang Di thought, but Liang Lin felt very embarrassed.
The prayer under the tree wasn't very interesting, so Liang Lin and the others decided to walk to the river. Because on the Winter Solstice Festival, there was a tradition of writing wishes on strips of cloth and throwing them into the river at dusk.
"Why do we write our wishes on strips of cloth and throw them into the river? Is it because there's a river god? If the river god sees our wishes, will they come true?"
Liang Lin held Liang Di's hand with one hand and Carol's hand with the other.
"No, there are no river gods in the world, or even gods at all. Writing your wishes on a strip of cloth and throwing it into the river is just a way for people to express their hopes and dreams. Carol, you have to work hard to make your wishes come true!"
Carol nodded, seemingly understanding.
Then, she turned to Alice beside her.
"Sister Alice, I will work hard for our future! I will strive to make it happen!"
Liang Lin and Liang Di: "???"
Liang Lin's voice trembled slightly.
"Carol, what, what is your relationship with Alice?"
Carol gave her mother a strange look.
"Alice is my sister, of course. I call her 'Sister'."
Hearing this, the two mothers finally breathed a sigh of relief; the heavy weight that had been hanging over their hearts finally settled on the ground.
"Oh, that's good. It's good that you're just 'Sister'."
Phew~
Liang Lin and Liang Di exchanged a glance, both showing relieved smiles.
They almost thought Carol was going to surpass them both, and even "double the kinship"!
They already had enough buffs; if Carol and Alice were together, their buffs would probably be even greater.
Great, they weren't together.
That's right, they're just kids. Kids think about fun, not romance. It's the adults' thinking that's too dirty.
Thinking this, they continued chatting and laughing as they walked.
After walking for about two hours, they finally reached the river.
"Wow, I just realized how big the royal city is!"
Liang Lin had good physical fitness; she didn't feel tired after walking for so long, and Hillary was only a little tired, without much reaction. Alice and Carol, feeling tired, would ask for hugs, then continue playing together after a while, without much of a reaction. The soldiers following behind were even better; their physical fitness was exceptionally good and strong.
In contrast to them was Octaville, and Liang Di. Although both of them knew magic, their physical fitness was poor. They never exercised and had never been to the border battlefield. Their physical condition was similar to that of an average delicate young lady, both panting heavily.
Octaville leaned against Hilary, panting heavily, almost coughing up her stomach.
"How come you're so tired after such a short distance?"
Hilary's tone was full of disdain.
"If you're like this, can you handle it in bed?"
She even questioned her wife's abilities.
Upon hearing her wife's question, Octaville immediately slowed her breathing and quickly straightened up.
"No? Who said I can't? Who said I can't?"
Still showing off.
"Don't you know whether I can or not? Saying things like that in public, aren't you ashamed?"
Why does it sound a little guilty?
Liang Lin watching the bickering couple happily.
