V3: Chapter 17: As Long As I'm with You, I'm Happy No Matter What
"Should I cut my hair?"
Liang Lin stood behind Liang Di, arms crossed.
Liang Di, in front of the vanity mirror, didn't speak. She held a gleaming pair of scissors in her hand, aiming them at her long, silver-white hair.
"I have to prove to everyone that I'm a man."
"....."
"Sigh..."
Liang Lin walked over.
She took the scissors from Liang Di's hand.
"Don't do that, Liang Di, your silver hair is beautiful."
Liang Lin rarely complimented anyone.
She placed the scissors on the table beside her and gently stroked Liang Di's long hair.
"I respect your opinion... but that doesn't mean you have to be a man. You can pretend to be a man outside, or whatever, but there's no need to cut your hair. I know you love your long hair, and I love it too."
Liang Di had probably never seen such a gentle Liang Lin before. For a moment, she felt wronged. She grabbed Liang Lin's sleeve, buried her face in her chest, and sobbed.
"Liang Lin, I hate this world that doesn't allow two girls to get married."
Liang Lin hugged her little head.
"Yeah, I hate it too."
"Liang Di, we can buy fake hair. Don't cut your long hair. I still prefer you with long hair."
Liang Di looked aggrieved, her lips pressed into a thin line.
"Hmm... I'm not getting a haircut."
Ultimately, one of them has to pretend to be a man. That way, in the public eye, they can both be normal people, able to go out together openly, get married openly, and be together openly.
"Let's do it next Sunday. We'll tell everyone about this."
Liang Di stroked her still-not-so-obvious belly. "We need to tell everyone before my belly gets too big."
Speaking of pregnancy, Liang Lin was curious.
"Liang Di, when I was pregnant with your child, it only took about four months to give birth. What about when you were pregnant with my child? Was it four months or nine months?"
Huh?
Liang Di hadn't thought about this before.
"Uh... right, if I were pregnant with your child, would it be four months or nine months?"
Neither girl knew.
At this point, they could only ask the all-knowing Octaville.
"Huh?"
Octaville scratched the back of her head in confusion.
"I... I don't know either. I only know that a tentacle's pregnancy is four months, but if the tentacle is carrying a human child, I really don't know how many months."
She looked at Liang Lin, then at Liang Di, unable to suppress a smile.
"A normal human getting a tentacle pregnant and giving birth is something I've never seen or heard of before."
Liang Lin covered her face.
Normally, she should be the one pregnant. But that's fine, she won't have to suffer from pregnancy every day, it's just hard on Liang Di.
"It's okay, I'm happy to share Liang Lin's pain."
Liang Di seemed completely unconcerned.
The two of them called Carol over, their expressions slightly serious.
"Carol, from now on, when you're out, you have to call Liang Di, your Mommy, as 'Dad,' but at home you can call her whatever you want. Just don't let it slip, understand?"
Carol had a slight doubt.
"Why...?"
Neither Liang Lin nor Liang Di knew how to explain to Carol, so they selectively skipped over the question.
"You'll understand when you grow up, but when you're outside, you must call Liang Di 'Dad,' okay?"
"Oh... okay."
Monday.
First, a banquet was to be held for the nobility, then an announcement to the common people.
As night fell, the Langwendi mansion was ablaze with lights.
In the center of the hall, a long table crafted from pure silver gleamed, large enough to accommodate hundreds of guests. On the table, exquisite silverware and porcelain shone brightly, and the enticing aromas of various delicacies filled the air, from fresh seafood to meticulously prepared game, all showcasing the Langwendi family's prestige and generosity.
The nobles, dressed in magnificent attire, slowly entered the hall. Their robes were embroidered with intricate family crests, gold and silver threads shimmering in the candlelight like flowing galaxies. The ladies wore jeweled crowns and dazzling necklaces, their skirts swaying gently with each step. The men wore tight-fitting trousers and long robes embroidered with gold, sharp swords at their waists.
Inside the rooms on the second floor.
Liang Di had already styled her long hair and put on a short silver wig.
Liang Lin stood behind her, feeling uneasy.
“Liang Di, are you really happy like this?”
Liang Di fiddled with her bangs, stepped forward, and took Liang Lin's hand.
“If I could be with Sister Liang Lin, I'd be happy even if it meant changing my gender, or even if people said I was a pet.”
Liang Lin thought Liang Di was stupid.
“Sigh.”
“Let’s go, Liang Di, everyone’s waiting downstairs.”
This time, however, it was Liang Lin holding Liang Di’s hand instead of Liang Di’s. To be honest, it was a little awkward. Liang Lin was used to being carefree, and now having to act like a demure woman was hard to accept.
Inside the banquet hall, melodious music filled the air as a band of court musicians played dance music.
The nobles, some in small groups, whispered amongst themselves, sharing the latest court secrets and family glories, while others sat alone in high-backed chairs, their gazes deep, contemplating more profound questions.
“I don’t really like these kinds of occasions; they’re full of power struggles and conflicts of interest.”
Liang Lin stood on the second floor, looking down at the crowd.
“Let’s go, Liang Di.”
The two descended the stairs.
As the melodious and solemn music gradually subsided, the noise in the banquet hall also subsided, and all eyes converged on the staircase. There, Liang Lin and Liang Di were slowly entering the banquet hall.
Liang Di wore a magnificent noble robe, embroidered with intricate family crests. The gold and silver threads shimmered in the candlelight, highlighting her noble status and position. Beside her stood her companion for the day—Liang Lin Langwendi.
Liang Di’s hair was short at this moment. Those around her paused for a moment, then a murmur of whispers erupted.
"Short hair?"
"Why did Miss Liang Di cut her hair so short?"
"What happened? What's going on?"
Liang Di and Liang Lin stood on the high platform in the center of the banquet hall. The entire hall fell silent, save for the occasional clinking of cutlery and the faint sounds of musicians adjusting their instruments in the distance.
Liang Di gently raised her hand, signaling the musicians to pause their performance.
