V1: Chapter 29: She was Elegant, Like a Rosebud in the Dark Night.

"Huh?"

"I'm scared??"

"I'm scared???"

Liang Lin took a handkerchief from her pocket and shoved the lantern into Liang Di's arms. "Here, take this. I'll turn her hand over and take a look."

Liang Di smiled triumphantly.

This woman is so easy to manipulate~

Suppressing her nausea, Liang Lin turned the female corpse's arm over, held her breath, and leaned closer to examine it carefully. She saw a small hole in the female corpse's wrist.

Liang Di also suppressed her nausea and leaned closer to look.

"It feels... like a needle or something, stuck in there, forming a small hole," Liang Di said.

Liang Lin frowned, recalling Laura's words about vampires...

"Oh...aren't vampires supposed to have two fangs? This only has a small hole, it's definitely not a vampire."

"You're still thinking about vampires?"

"Ugh, let's get out of here, this smell is disgusting." Liang Lin said with disgust, dropping the female corpse's arm.

It wasn't that she disrespected the deceased, it was just that the smell was so overwhelming, it choked her, making her feel like her internal organs were being squeezed.

"Let's go."

"Watch out!"

Liang Lin suddenly reached out, grabbed Liang Di's head, and pulled her into her arms, taking two steps back. Her sword flashed from her waist, and with a "thud," it plunged into the attacker's shoulder.

Eh?

"You're incredibly stupid. You didn't even know there was someone behind you," Liang Lin mocked Liang Di in her arms.

"And you're so smug about your little bit of cleverness! Just now, if it weren't for me, you would have had someone put a bag over your head."

Liang Di turned around and saw a man sitting on the ground, groaning in pain. A bloody hole had been pierced in his shoulder, and blood was gushing out.

"There's definitely more than one person. Be careful."

Actually, Liang Lin was also a little annoyed. If the man had put that bag over Liang Di's head, and it contained poison or something, it might have killed the monster. But instead, her body reacted faster than her brain; before her brain could even process it, her body acted on its own, saving Liang Di.

Damn it, she's gotten into the habit of protecting others.

Now that she'd already saved her, Liang Di was bound to be on guard. If she didn't continue to help her, Liang Di would definitely take matters into her own hands, beating everyone down and making her the one suffering and being "trained."

Ugh, I really wanted to slap myself.

Sure enough, as soon as the man on the ground collapsed, five or six burly men emerged from around them, each carrying a rope, a burlap sack, and a sharp knife.

"You...aren't you underestimating me a bit too much? You're not even going to use a sneak attack; you want to confront me head-on?"

Liang Lin remained with her arm around Liang Di's waist, holding her long sword, her eyes sharp as a shark, exuding a strong sense of intimidation.

The men exchanged glances without speaking. The leader, knife in hand, charged straight at Liang Lin and Liang Di.

With an elegant spin, Liang Lin pushed Liang Di behind her, ensuring her safety, before charging forward alone.

Liang Lin was dressed in tight-fitting casual clothes today, perfectly outlining her slender figure, exuding a heroic and dashing air. A leather hat covered her long, flowing black hair, making her appear like a ghost in the night.

"Just... one sword."

This was the source of Liang Lin's arrogance.

The sword cleaved through the burly man's chest, blood gushing out. A sharp scream echoed through the forest, startling birds into flapping their wings and flying in panic.

The other burly men instinctively took a step back, but instead of fleeing, they charged forward like a suicide squad, drawing their knives and roaring like wild beasts.

"It sounds awful."

Ah~ so elegant.

Liang Di summed it up in just three words.

The battle ended abruptly; Liang Lin didn't even catch her breath.

“A bunch of trash! If I were your master, I would have kicked you out long ago. You wouldn't even get a hot meal begging for food, you garbage!”

Liang Lin spat at the men groaning on the ground.

“Are you alright?”

Liang Lin turned around, feigning concern for Liang Di, then raised her chin in a boastful manner.

Liang Di wasn't sure, but she felt Liang Lin was waiting for praise. So, she gave her a thumbs up,

“Wow~ You took them all down so quickly, impressive!”

Liang Lin was delighted by the praise. Ultimately, Liang Lin simply loved being flattered. No matter who it was, even if it were someone else standing here today, she wanted praise.

Liang Di crouched down and asked the burly man whose shoulder had been pierced, “Who sent you?”

The burly man didn't say a word, just kept clutching his shoulder, groaning in pain. Liang Di asked a few more questions, but all the burly men remained silent.

"Tsk, like a foolish dog."

Liang Lin drew her longsword again. This time, she aimed it at the spot where the burly man's shoulder had been pierced, and coldly said, "I don't mind stabbing you again. What about you? I don't think you'd mind either, after all, you're mute."

The burly man trembled, but still gritted his teeth and remained silent.

"Pfft~"

"Ahhh!!"

"Oh? So you can scream? Then talk to me, stop pretending to be mute, come on."

Liang Lin abruptly pulled out her longsword, disgustedly wiped the blood off with a handkerchief, and blew on it.

"Oh dear, so ruthless~"

Liang Di couldn't help but chuckle.

But... I liked it~

Liang Lin and me were kindred spirits, weren't we?

"Why won't you speak?"

The man on the ground made strange noises, "Ahhh," "Ah-ba," "Lulu-lulu," incessantly. This time, Liang Di finally noticed something was wrong. She raised her hand, stopping Liang Lin's raised sword, which she intended to use to punish the man again.

“Wait, let me take a look.”

She pried open a man’s mouth and shone her lantern on it. Sure enough, there was no tongue; it seemed to have been cut off.

“They can’t speak. They don’t have tongues. It doesn’t look like they were born without them; it was cut off later. This person is ruthless.”

This is truly insane cruelty. Liang Lin sheathed her longsword and asked, “Then what should we do?”

“They can’t speak, but they can definitely remember the way. Let them lead the way. It seems… we won’t be able to get a good night’s sleep tonight.”

After hearing this, Liang Lin kicked the man on the ground.

“Hey, if you want to live, lead the way. Take me to your master. Don’t try anything funny. My sword is right behind you; I can stab you at any time.”
