V3: Chapter 37: Nightmare
"Uh, you should wash your hands before touching your sister's face. Newborn baby is quite fragile, you know?"
Carol happily went to wash her hands after hearing this.
Liang Lin looked at Liang Di on the bed.
"This child has no hair."
Liang Di: "....."
"How could a newborn baby have hair?"
Liang Lin stubbornly insisted, "Carol had it back then, I saw Carol with it the first time."
"She slowly grew from tentacles into a human, she wasn't a baby right after birth, she was already several months old then, of course she would have hair, she'll have hair in a few months."
Liang Di slightly raised her hand, pointing to the baby in the crib.
Liang Lin looked at her second daughter again.
"Uh... okay, looking at her closely, she's actually quite cute."
It's her own daughter, of course she'll be cute no matter what, even if she's a little piggy, mothers will still find her adorable.
When Carol finished washing her little hands and excitedly ran back, Octaville and Hilary also arrived.
"Oh my, this little one is just as ugly as Alice was when she was born, uglier in a strange way."
Octaville smiled and pinched the little one's cheek on the bed.
Hilary nudged her wife with her elbow.
"You're so good with words, so good at complimenting people."
"Of course," Octaville retorted, "When kids are ugly, they're kind of adorably ugly. Adults can't be ugly, because then they're really ugly. Kids are cute when they're a little ugly."
"Don't worry, sisters, she'll grow out of it."
Octaville patted Liang Lin's shoulder reassuringly, only to be dodged away in disgust.
"By the way, what's the child's name? Have you decided yet?"
Liang Lin and Liang Di shook their heads in unison.
"We haven't decided yet, we just can't think of a name."
Carol volunteered to name her sister.
"I've been racking my brains for half a month, and I've finally decided on a name for my sister!"
Carol clenched her little fist.
Hearing this, the four adults looked at the little brat expectantly.
"I especially love gingerbread men, and every little gingerbread man is so cute! I hope my little sister will be as cute and sweet as a gingerbread man! So! Let's call her !"
The four adults: "....."
Well, they really shouldn't be pinning their hopes on a child who's not even eight years old yet. Everyone looked away and began discussing what to name their second daughter.
The discussion was incredibly intense, like a very important meeting. The four adults talked until their throats were dry, but they still hadn't come to a conclusion.
"It's not good to not have a name yet. We can't just call her 'Baby' or 'Daughter' or something like that."
Liang Lin frowned deeply, looking at her second daughter on the crib.
"Oh, just pick any name. When I named Carol, it was really random, just a sudden inspiration, and Carol came to mind. So, I named her that. You guys should also have a sudden inspiration, and that's fine."
How can a sudden inspiration be used for naming?
Carol was completely oblivious to the adults' situation, still playing with her little sister in the crib.
Finally, the adults discussed for a full hour before reaching a decision.
"Let's call her."
"Lumina Langwendi."
A normal name.
"Sounds so-so, not as nice as Gingerbread."
Carol offered a sharp comment.
"....."
"Okay, you go play."
Liang Lin had a headache.
On the other side.
Laura lay on the bed, trembling all over.
The beginning of her dreams was always that familiar forest, but each time she stepped into it, it was completely different.
This time, the forest was shrouded in a thick layer of black fog, the air thick with the pungent, musty, and putrid stench, suffocating the senses. Laura's footsteps echoed through the empty forest, evoking no response from any living being, only the endless darkness and silence, like a harbinger of death.
Suddenly, a cold wind swept over her from behind. Laura whirled around, only to find herself surrounded by darkness.
Her heart pounded, fear spreading through her like ice. Just then, a gigantic tentacle emerged from the darkness, silent yet possessing an irresistible force, and attacked her.
The tentacle was as black as night, its surface covered in a sticky liquid, like the tongue of a demon crawling out of an abyss. It moved nimbly through the fog, each swing creating a powerful vortex in the surrounding air.
Laura tried to flee in terror, but found her legs bound by invisible chains, unable to move.
The tentacles drew closer, Laura could even feel their icy touch, as if they were about to devour her entirely.
She struggled desperately, but the tentacles' strength was too great. She could only watch helplessly as she was slowly pulled into the endless darkness. In that moment, she seemed to hear her own heart breaking; fear and despair washed over her like a tidal wave, engulfing her.
Just when Laura thought she was about to be completely swallowed by the tentacles, a blinding light suddenly ripped through the night sky. The light, like a sword, cleaved through the darkness, forcing the tentacles back.
Laura seized the opportunity to break free and ran forward desperately. She dared not look back, fearing the tentacles would pursue her again.
She ran and ran until she was utterly exhausted before daring to stop.
Looking back, she saw the forest illuminated by the light gradually disappear into the darkness, as if nothing had ever happened.
But Laura knew it was only a temporary escape; the real nightmare had just begun.
She continued forward, only to find herself in a completely unfamiliar place.
This was a desolate wasteland, littered with broken stones and crumbling buildings. A suffocating atmosphere hung in the air, suggesting a fierce war had once raged here. Laura cautiously moved through the ruins, afraid of triggering any traps.
Just then, she heard a deep, guttural voice echoing through the ruins. The voice seemed to emanate from the depths of hell, filled with endless resentment and rage.
Laura's heart pounded again. She looked around, but all she saw was darkness. She tried to call out, but her throat felt constricted, and no sound came out.
Suddenly, a gigantic tentacle emerged from the ruins, lunging at Laura.
This time, the tentacle was even larger, seemingly capable of blotting out the entire sky. Laura tried to flee in terror, but the paths within the ruins were complex and treacherous; she couldn't find her way out.
