V1: Chapter 47: Sometimes, Talent Outweighs Effort

"Hmm..."

Octaville was nearly 1.9 meters tall, while Hilary was petite, just over 1.6 meters.

Despite being more than a head taller than Hilary, Octaville was as docile as a domesticated kitten in Hilary's presence.

"I warned Liang Di beforehand, that child knows how to behave."

That's right.....

Right?

"I know how to behave, Sister Lianglin."

Liang Di found clean clothes for Liang Lin, and then had Bellica change the sheets on her bed.

"I'll go find Donald in a bit. Since you're on your period, you should lie here and rest."

Liang Lin couldn't wait for Liang Di to leave and nodded immediately.

After Liang Di left, Liang Lin leaped off the bed and dashed back to her room.

This place is no place to linger!

"Liang Di, I've heard about what happened in Orlando. Well done."

Grandpa Donald stood by the window, twirling a quill pen in his hand, showering his granddaughter with praise.

"Moreover, the average profit of the commoner's tailor shop you manage is already almost the same as the highest-profit noble tailor shop in the Soteland Empire. As expected of the Langwendi family, your business acumen is still as formidable as ever."

Liang Di nodded politely to Donald.

"Grandpa, as one of the heirs of the Langwendi family, these are things I must accomplish. Of course, my expectations go beyond this; it's still not enough, too little."

"Oh?"

Donald stopped twirling the quill, his sharp gaze falling on Liang Di. He asked, "What are your expectations?"

"My expectations..."

In Liang Di's sapphire blue eyes, an unyielding ambition and a tremendous thirst for power shone through.

"My expectation, of course, is to restore the Langwendi family to its glory of a hundred years ago!"

A century ago, the Langwendi family was incredibly wealthy, even maintaining long-standing marriage alliances with royalty. A prince who married a Langwendi daughter was practically guaranteed a place on the throne.

How glorious they once were!

Now, everything has faded. The Langwendi family is no longer a shining force, and even some newly rising families dare to speak ill of them.

Grandpa Donald admired Liang Di's ambition and confidence, but deep down, he harbored deep concerns.

Reviving their former glory was easy to talk about, and sounded incredibly inspiring, but in reality, it was so difficult.

Previous generations had squandered so much wealth; how could this generation possibly revive the family so easily?

But Grandpa Donald didn't say anything. He patted Liang Di's shoulder, "Grandpa believes in you, but… while you're rebuilding the family, don't forget to take care of yourself."

Old Master Donald had always been a very gentle elder.

Knock, knock, knock.

The door was knocked on.

"Come in."

Miranda led Edwin in, hand in hand.

As soon as they entered, Edwin excitedly jumped into Donald's arms, sweetly calling out things like, "I missed Grandpa so much!" Liang Di's expression remained unchanged.

"Father, Edwin has been saying he missed you these past few days, but we've been out dealing with shop matters, so we haven't been able to come see you recently." Miranda looked at her son's affectionate behavior with fondness.

"Well, after finishing up with the shop matters, I brought Edwin here immediately. Edwin, did you miss Grandpa a lot?"

"Yes~!"

Edwin hugged Donald's waist tightly.

Donald naturally loved his grandson dearly; after all, they shared the same blood, and his bloodline was worthy of his love.

Edwin pulled a bill from his pocket. "Grandpa, I've taken care of a lot of things these past few days. Look! The dessert shop's profits have gone up."

Liang Di had heard about this from Bellica.

Discount sales can only attract customers temporarily; they can't last. Moreover, consistently selling at low prices will incur the ire of competitors. If this continues, other nobles will probably teach Miranda and Edwin a lesson.

These two fools never think about solving the problem at its root; they're always trying to be clever.

Liang Di has never taken Edwin and Miranda seriously; they're just dogs with Queen Doris as their master. But she can't touch them now, because even when beating a dog, one must consider its owner.

Grandpa Donald naturally understood the pros and cons, but he didn't tell Miranda a thing.

This is a fair and just competition, and Grandpa Donald as the referee in this competition, cannot help anyone. Although, Grandpa Donald already knew the final result would be an overwhelming victory for Liang Di.

It's fair to say that effort pales in comparison to talent. Compared to a cursed genius like Liang Di, Edwin was destined for failure from birth, destined to be nothing more than a foil to his sister.

“Very impressive.” Donald reached out and affectionately patted Edwin’s fluffy head. Then, he looked at Miranda and asked, “How is Auston?”

Miranda’s smile froze, and a visible sadness appeared on her face.

“Austin… he’s paralyzed in bed, completely unable to move. The doctor said he’s still conscious, but he can’t speak or move.”

“I see…”

Donald nodded, his voice softening. “Miranda, take Edwin out first. Go to my study and wait for me. I need to say a few words to Liang Di before I come find you.”

“Okay, Edwin, my darling son, off we go.”

Edwin waved to Donald, “Grandpa! Come here quickly! I recently learned backgammon!”

Miranda really went to great lengths to please Donald, even observing what kind of games Donald liked to play and then having her son learn it.

Liang Di scoffed inwardly. Instead of wasting time on such useless things, she should learn how to manage a shop.

After Edwin and Miranda left, Donald turned away from Liang Di, remaining silent for a long time.

Liang Di didn't speak either; she knew what Donald wanted to say. The old man had just inquired about Auston's recent situation, so the next topic would definitely be about his good-for-nothing, unlucky son.

Sure enough, after a long silence, Donald turned back. His expression was somewhat forlorn; the vicissitudes of time were vividly displayed on his wrinkled face.

"Liang Di… I've taken care of that matter for you." His tone was filled with weariness.

"Yes, I know, thank you… Grandpa."

"But, promise Grandpa one thing, okay?"
