V1: Chapter 55: Sister's Letter

"No..."

Octaville shook her head, her gaze filled with helplessness.

The stars in Liang Lin's eyes vanished, and her upturned lips drooped. She even suspected that Octaville hadn't told her sister about this at all, and that there was some conspiracy between her and Liang Di.

Hmm, maybe my sister was being held captive by Octaville!

My sister was such a fragile girl...

If Octaville knew this, she would be both amused and exasperated.

Indeed, someone was being held captive, only the person was reversed.

“However…”

Seeing the disappointment on Liang Lin’s face, Octaville quickly pulled a letter written by Hilary from her pocket and handed it to her.

“Your sister wrote you a letter and asked me to give it to you. Although she can’t see you, she still misses you very much.”

Liang Lin’s eyebrows rose again, her hands even trembling slightly. She snatched the letter from Octaville’s hand, shakily opened the envelope, and pulled out the letter inside.

Yes.

This was definitely her sister’s handwriting.

“My dear brother… no, I should call you sister now.”

“I’m doing well here, but something happened during our escape. My face was burned by a fire, and I’m currently receiving treatment in a remote village. It’s not that I don’t want to see you, but I really don’t want you to see me like this.”

“My treatment will be over in less than two and a half months. I’ll come to pick you up with flowers then. Sister, stay at the Langwendi residence for now. If you suffer any misfortune, tell Octaville; she will protect you.”

“I’m so grateful you didn’t die. When I heard you died on the battlefield, I was so heartbroken I almost fainted. You were only sixteen, and at fourteen, you shouldered the heavy responsibility of defending the borders of the Soteland Empire. I witnessed your tender little hands gradually becoming calloused. My heart ached for you, but the Soteland Empire doesn’t allow women to go to the battlefield, so I couldn’t share your burden.”

“Thankfully, you survived in this way.”

"Little sister, you should also thank Liang Di. If she hadn't discovered your identity and told Octaville, she wouldn't have come looking for you, and I wouldn't have acknowledged you."

"Finally, I truly miss you terribly. See you in two and a half months. I hope you won't cry when I see you then~"

The letter was signed by Hilary.

After reading the letter, Liang Lin's eyes were already brimming with tears.

It was indeed her sister's handwriting, and it was undeniably her sister's gentle tone.

Liang Lin wiped away her tears and suddenly gave Liang Di a grateful look. Liang Di was startled, confused, and blinked blankly.

"Thank you, Liang Di."

Liang Lin suddenly thanked her.

"Hmm? Hmm...? Yeah...?" Liang Di was completely bewildered.

In the past, Liang Lin's attitude towards her had never been this kind; it had always been extremely harsh.

Now, this sudden thank you made her feel a little uncomfortable, even wondering if the person in front of her had been possessed.

"Thank...thank me for what?"

Liang Di looked at Octaville with a puzzled expression, hoping for an explanation.

Octaville shrugged, indicating she didn't know either.

"I'm really grateful that you told Octaville about my situation."

Liang Di: "..."

Feeling inexplicably guilty, she forced a calm demeanor.

"You're welcome, Sister Liang Lin," Liang Di tried to make her expression appear natural, "I'm also very happy that you found me. I know you've always cared about me. Don't be so polite, it's what I should do."

In reality, Liang Di's voice was becoming increasingly weak; although her volume didn't decrease, it was clearly trembling. Fortunately, her acting skills were still on point.

Liang Lin was genuinely grateful to Liang Di, even forgiving her past grievances. She reasoned that Liang Di was different from ordinary people, her personality and thoughts must also differ from normal people, so her strange behavior was understandable. Liang Lin wanted to help her more and teach her how to be a normal person.

However, Liang Lin seemed to forget one fact: she herself wasn't a psychologically healthy little girl. Although she was full of a sense of justice, she would sometimes sacrifice many other things to maintain her own sense of justice.

For example, if there were a hundred people on one side and only one person on the other, and only one side could live, she would not hesitate to kill the one person with her own hands. She called it "letting him die without pain."

Furthermore, she was capable of personally eliminating innocent people to save more lives.

She was righteous, but her justice was distorted.

Octaville was suppressing a laugh.

“Oh, right, little sister,” Octaville tried to ingratiate herself again, putting her arm around Liang Lin’s shoulder, “If anyone bullies you, tell me, okay? I’ll fight back for you.”

As she said this, Octaville deliberately glanced at Liang Di out of the corner of her eye.

Liang Di’s expression sharpened as she looked at Octaville.

Liang Lin gave Octaville a suspicious look. “Octaville, you… you’re not strong enough for that, are you sure?”

When she was little, she had witnessed her older sister punch Octaville, sending her flying. Octaville had clutched her stomach, tears streaming down her face, lying on the ground sobbing.

“You were knocked down by my gentle sister, such a delicate girl, with just a light punch…” Liang Lin’s voice was soft, probably afraid of hurting Octaville’s pride.

Octaville: "..."

Gentle? Delicate? Light punch?

This child, does she have some huge misunderstanding about her sister?

Octaville's face darkened.

"It's okay, I've been working out a lot these past few years, I won't get beaten to the point of vomiting by your sister anymore." Octaville showed off the muscles in her arms.

Speaking of which, Liang Lin suddenly remembered something.

"Ah, right, there's something I forgot to ask you," Liang Lin pulled Octaville upstairs, "This should be explained slowly."

"What is it, little sister?"

"Why did you suddenly disappear? Abandoning my sister. Do you know how heartbroken my sister was?"

Damn, so she's going to get tortured by her sister-in-law too.

Octaville scratched her head sheepishly, "Well... I've already explained it to your sister, and she understands."

"Tell me, why, what was so important that you left without even saying goodbye?"
