Volume 2 chapter 73
What is the world like?
For Clyris, it was Mana and Matter. These two composed the world.
Matter existed on the macro level, influencing the surface. Mana existed on the micro level, influencing the depths.
Clyris had read the knowledge within the System. Although she couldn't understand most of it, she grasped some concepts. Combined with her Ninth-Rank Elemental Sight, she could "see" the microscopic world more clearly than anyone.
Thus, regarding the understanding of the world, Clyris dared to claim she was the foremost expert below the Saint Rank!
However, in Phyllis's eyes...
Skipping past irrelevant memories, Clyris focused on finding images related to the Saint Rank and the Laws.
She saw many things along the way. She saw the Original Hero's Broken Sword standing in the Abyssal Passage. She saw countless powerful demons, including Saint-Rank Archdukes. She saw the glorious era of the Demon Race...
Demon cities towered over the continent, each more magnificent and fortified than the current Dark City!
Dwarves were mere servants, divided into nine tribes to serve the nine great Demon Clans. They forged weapons, served as slave soldiers, and died for their masters. Back then, they weren't called Dwarves; the Alliance called them "Goblins" or "Crypt Fiends."
There were Dragons, unlike now where not a trace remained.
But after Phyllis became the Demon Lord, one battle shattered the Dragon Race completely. In that battle, Phyllis fought five Saint-Rank Dragons alone. Five great dragons fell from the sky, their blood staining the earth red, while she remained nearly unscathed. That battle cemented her position as the Demon Lord.
Since then, the Dragon Race vanished from the Alliance ranks. The wings that once guarded the Alliance skies were gone.
Clyris flipped past the images of dying dragons and finally found the perspective of a Saint—the moment Phyllis first ascended!
Her gaze sharpened, and she immediately switched her view from third-person to first-person.
And then she saw it...
Eight Elements weaving, tangling, fusing, and colliding on the "Water Surface"!
Time flowed from the void, dividing chaotic space. Mana flowed from the void. Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water composed the material world. Light and Darkness merged, giving birth to souls.
Matter was not simply macro or micro, but the crystallization of Laws. From a mountain to an atom, all was the material world. The four elements cycled endlessly, making matter impermanent.
And Light and Darkness were not merely illumination and shadow. They were two... chains? Extending from beneath the "Water Surface"?
Clyris blinked, confirming she wasn't seeing things. They were two intertwined chains stretching from beneath the surface. The consciousness of all life was born within them and perished within them.
They were not simple light and dark, but the Birth and Death of Souls!
The Eight Laws were contained in all things. Light and Dark at the center, wrapped by Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water, with Time and Space rotating outside.
But... why did this image look so familiar?
Clyris rubbed her eyes in disbelief, confirming again that she wasn't mistaken.
The rotating Eight Laws: Earth and Water sank below, Fire and Wind rose above. They wrapped Light and Darkness respectively. Time and Space separated chaos on the outside.
Phyllis cut out three parts Light, five parts Darkness, two parts Time, two parts Space, and one part Earth. Like a skilled tailor, she cut out the needed laws, combined them, and filled them with her Charm Authority. Driving that space with her Authority, she formed her initial Domain—The Chaos Domain!
But the more Clyris looked at the rotation of those laws, the more familiar it seemed. Where had she seen this?
She stared for a long time, then suddenly remembered.
Wasn't this exactly like that strange diagram Charlo gave her?!
"Heavy" Earth and Fire sank. "Light" Wind and Water rose. At the very bottom, Water and Fire merged to form a boundary. At the very top, Earth and Wind pressed against each other, also forming a line.
The two lines connected—wasn't that the S-curve dividing black and white in the diagram?! Except on the level of Laws, the line wasn't distinct; the colors faded and deepened where they touched.
In the depths of Earth and Fire, Light shone brilliantly. In the center of Wind and Water, Darkness was conspicuously present.
Yin within Yang. Yang within Yin.
"This... how on earth did he know that diagram?" Clyris murmured, incredulous. A little guy who was only a Fifth-Rank Knight at the time had revealed the operation of the world's laws to her!
"What exactly... is he?
Suddenly, the scene shifted. Clyris saw a tall man standing in front of her.
"Hm?"
She blinked. Before she could react, she saw him raise a long blade and chop down at her head!
That slash pierced the firmament, separated Time and Space, and split Chaos itself. It felt as if the world was being cleaved in two!
Infinite blade light illuminated the world like a sun. Even the earth melted beneath its radiance.
In the next instant, this peerless blade light reached Clyris's face. The violent laws contained within were in their most primal and powerful state! Her brain froze, unable to process the attack. She could only watch helplessly as she was hit.
BOOM...
After the terrifying roar, Clyris blinked blankly. Her first reaction was to touch her body.
Face is there... hands are there... chest is also...
Wait! Clyris realized. She hadn't taken that hit. She was in Phyllis's memory. It was Phyllis who had taken that peerless slash in the past!
And to possess such world-ending power...
Clyris switched back to third-person view and looked closely. A tall man with red hair and blue eyes stood in the air.
He wore a white combat robe with a silver trench coat draped over his shoulders. In his hand, he held an extremely long blade (Odachi).
The blade was white overall, with red patterns running down the center. It looked about two meters long—as tall as the man himself!
"Yo! So you are the Queen of Greed. Pretty cute!" The man rested the blade on his shoulder, chuckling softly.
"You are the Hero of this generation?" Despite taking the hit, Phyllis remained calm, looking at him with surprise.
Phyllis wore a black short skirt and vest, a shawl over her shoulders, long lace arm warmers, and sheer black full-body stockings that tightly wrapped her long, slender legs, ending in knee-high heels.
Although she had been struck first, the attack had only scattered her long hair. Aside from that, she was unharmed.
"Though you are indeed stronger than those trash, you are just a boor with no manners! Sneak-attacking a lady!" Phyllis lifted her chin, speaking haughtily.
"Hah! That wasn't a sneak attack, just a greeting!" Ian waved a hand dismissively. "I hate people who pretend to be masters. So I like to say hello with a slash first! Based on how they respond, I decide how we communicate!"
"Since you dissolved it so easily just now, you must be the legendary Demon Lord!" Ian lowered his blade. "Truly a master... Let me test your mettle!"
Saying this, Ian flashed a sunny, brilliant smile—and swung his blade!
Again, it was like a sun rising. Infinite light and heat bathed heaven and earth. Mountains dissolved. Continents sank.
Even watching in third-person, Clyris felt like her eyes were being blinded.
Violent laws swept across half the continent. In the center, Phyllis faced a blade light that shattered even space-time, turning everything into primal chaos.
The blade light wasn't a line, but a mass. It was everywhere, enveloping a zone hundreds of kilometers wide with Phyllis at the center.
"Darkness Domain! Chaos Domain!"
Phyllis's expression changed. Her two great domains expanded instantly. But she wasn't done—
"Chaos · Era of Turmoil!"
Phyllis spread her hands. Infinite darkness roiled, swallowing all matter and existence, turning into the deepest black abyss. Even laws were twisted and devoured, sinking into countless eras until they were ground into nothingness.
BOOM!!!
The blade light collided with the black abyss. One side was a supernova explosion; the other was a black hole devouring everything. Immeasurable mana collided within, finally forming a vortex a thousand kilometers wide that threatened to suck in and shred the entire world.
"Haha! Take another one!"
Ian laughed maniacally, his eyes sharp as knives. He swung again. Ultimate light condensed into a straight line, sweeping out like a gamma-ray burst.
"Damn it! This guy is using power that doesn't belong to this world..." Phyllis gritted her teeth, straining slightly.
"Scythe of Death!"
She summoned her scythe and swung it violently at the blinding beam of light.
BOOM!!!
Clyris watched the apocalyptic battle from the sidelines, knowing this was only the beginning. Yet it was already so terrifying...
"If those eight Saints were here, they'd be dead already... This is a completely different dimension of strength..."
Before Clyris could finish her thought, nine figures with terrifying auras and oppressive pressure arrived.
"Your Majesty! We have come to aid you!!"
The Nine Demon Archdukes roared in unison. Their auras linked together, forming a towering giant of darkness that touched the sky.
Every step the giant took shattered tectonic plates. Every wave of its arm summoned wind and thunder, whipping up a terrifying tide of mana.
"More masters?! Just in time!"
"Hahahaha..."
Ian laughed wildly, swinging his long blade in an impenetrable defense. The vast blade light resembled the First Day of Genesis, dimming even the sun in the sky.
Clyris watched in awe. Although summoned Heroes sometimes brought their original powers, she never expected it to be this strong.
"So this is... the power that broke the Demon Race's ten-thousand-year plan..."
