Volume 2 chapter 87
Talisk Fortress.
Looking down from the ramparts, the magnificent fortress stood defiant upon the earth. Having weathered countless battles, it remained unbroken.
The craters surrounding it had been filled, replaced by lines of winding, extensive trenches. Inside, machine guns and mortars overlapped their fields of fire, creating a broad, deadly kill zone.
Behind them, within the fortress itself, a forest of giant cannons pointed toward the horizon, their muzzles gleaming with cold lethality.
Clyris stood high in the sky, gazing forward.
On the other side, in Seres Territory, Charlo watched through the System interface while instructing the officers of the General Staff.
Charlo: "You don't actually have to fight... Just showing your face to let the Alliance know you're there is enough!"
Clyris shook her head. Hiding inside the fortress while her warriors fought and died? She couldn't do it!
Clyris: "No, Charlo! I cannot watch my soldiers die and remain indifferent! I cannot live with that kind of peace of mind!"
Charlo: "But if you fight for real, you really might die... If you die, the Demon Race is finished!"
Clyris paused. Finished? The current Demon Race was basically finished anyway! She had already begun to conscript workers from the production lines into the army, further depleting their already strained manpower.
Clyris: "At least... before I retreat, I want to give the soldiers destined to die here some confidence! Even if it's a tiny, almost non-existent hope, it is the motivation to persist in despair!"
With that, Clyris looked at the massive silhouettes appearing on the horizon. She accelerated, breaking the sound barrier instantly. Trailing a sonic boom cloud, she streaked across the sky like a meteor.
Seventy to eighty kilometers in front of the fortress, over a hundred towering figures emerged over the horizon.
The Holy Theocracy's War Knights.
The Elven War Ancients.
The Mage Association's Mobile Towers.
Three types of colossal steel beasts marched slowly toward Talisk Fortress!
The War Knights were humanoid, standing a hundred meters tall. Their feet and legs were fitted with massive rams. Their arms mounted Magitech Cannons, and their hands were specialized Anti-Magic Blades. Their heads housed three cannons, and their chests bore a massive cannon designed to focus Faith Power for the ultimate attack: "Divine · Light of Punishment."
The War Ancients were the Elven Behemoths—massive trees standing a hundred meters high with canopies spanning kilometers. Each main branch was a cannon, each twig held a defensive array, and the trunk acted as a giant mobile mana source to replenish exhausted Elven mages.
The Mobile Towers of the Mage Association were literally giant mage towers with four legs. Integrating offense, recovery, communication, and defense, they amplified every spell cast from within before smashing it onto the enemy's head!
Behind these titans marched the main Alliance army, perfectly protected by defensive arrays.
Elven and Theban Shock Troops. Elven and Mage Association Magic Legions. Theban Priest Corps... and Seven Ninth-Rankers!
"Quite the lineup..." Clyris chuckled lightly. Her blood began to boil, burning away fear and leaving only bloodlust in her eyes.
Charlo: "Clyris..."
Charlo looked at the opposing lineup, moved. He almost dropped his teaching materials.
Just a dozen of these Behemoths could shake a fortress with a single-layer Ninth-Rank array. Here, there were over a hundred!
Eighth-Rankers, each capable of leveling a city in an hour... there were over fifty!
Not to mention seven Ninth-Rankers... Charlo dared not imagine such a scenario. Even on Earth, this force could sweep the globe. Aside from nuclear weapons, he couldn't think of a countermeasure.
"Don't worry... I will live! The ones who will die... are them!"
Clyris's eyes were cold. She dove toward the massive cluster of Behemoths like a moth to a flame, yet radiating an aura that made heaven and earth submit.
She made no attempt to hide her intent. Naturally, the Alliance Ninth-Rankers wouldn't ignore her.
Four Knights and Three Grand Magisters rushed out to intercept. One Grand Magister stayed in the rear, raising his staff with both hands. The power of Time and Space gathered, twisting reality.
"Space-Time Control · World Disarray!!"
With a wave of his staff, chaotic space-time eroded the sky like a computer virus. Everything inverted! Up became down, forward became back. Space flowed, time solidified!
A full-power strike right from the start, instantly banishing Clyris dozens of kilometers away.
"Seems there are capable people... Can't underestimate Ninth-Rankers!"
Clyris resisted the space-time force trying to tear her apart. With Gravity in one hand and Death in the other, she formed two vortexes and pressed them forward!
"Vortex of Death!!"
Extreme gravity shattered space-time, dragging all matter and energy into the crusher. The power of Death, like an invisible spectre, devoured everything, bringing an end to all things!
"Eternal Body!!"
A Knight roared, shattering the sky as he charged Clyris. The chaotic space-time couldn't inflict a single effective wound on him; every injury vanished in an instant! Sword in hand, he was unstoppable.
"Gale Annihilation Slash!!"
Sword light swept across the sky like a storm, cleaving even the gravity vortex apart!
Simultaneously, another Knight wielding a giant axe transformed into a golden giant standing between heaven and earth. One axe strike, like Pangu splitting chaos, separated earth, fire, wind, and water!
"World Killer · Dark Ruin!!"
Clyris drew her sword and swept it horizontally. Extreme darkness and gravity erupted like the birth of a star! Absolute destruction swept the sky, wiping away the sword wind, axe light, and the world itself!
Terrifying power expanded, melting clouds and mountains dozens of kilometers away like snowflakes under a scorching sun.
"Divine · Wall of World Protection!!"
Two Archbishops poured out their full power. Blinding light erupted from their bodies, forming a wall of light that connected heaven and earth, encasing their allies.
"Guardian Light!!"
An Elven Grand Mage waved his staff, covering everyone in a veil of green light.
"Take this, Demon Lord!!"
"And me!!"
Two Grand Magisters combined their power, clashing their staffs in mid-air!
"Light of Chaos!!"
The sky was split open instantly, revealing the void beneath. Light bloomed from within, like the first light of creation, separating space-time and tearing apart chaos!
"Ruin Killer · The Great Tear!!"
Clyris swung her sword. Gravity tore space-time, Darkness eroded Light, Death ended all things.
Heaven and earth were shredded into a ball of chaos. All existence was sucked in and torn apart!
"Divine · Punishment!" The two Archbishops swung their weapons. Faith Light turned into golden thunder, piercing the chaos.
"Flame Storm!!" The Elven Grand Mage waved his staff. Fire swept the world like a storm, twisting space with heat and burning through the earth!
"Eternal Wind · Flowing Sword!!" The first Knight swung his sword. Static wind turned into flowing sword light, granting momentous death to all things.
"Chaos · Cleave!!" The Golden Giant struck down with his axe. The gilded blade was like the light of creation, illuminating the firmament.
BOOM!!!
Meanwhile, with the threat of the Demon Lord removed, the War Behemoths easily cleared the minefields and advanced toward the fortress.
At 40 kilometers, they encountered heavy fire from the Super-Charged Large Fortress Cannons.
1.5-ton Armor-Piercing shells traveling at Mach 3 slammed into the defensive arrays like boulders dropped into a lake, creating ripples that refused to calm.
But ultimately, they failed to penetrate. The War Behemoths continued to advance.
At the same time, the War Ancients extended their branches. Countless Mana Rays covered the sky, intercepting almost every incoming shell in mid-air.
"Damn it..." Inside the fortress, Seraphina punched the wall, gritting her teeth as she ordered: "Cease fire! Let them come to 25 kilometers! Only at that distance can we penetrate, and only then will we have enough shell density to overwhelm their interception!"
