Volume 2 chapter 90

When Clyris returned to the fortress, she was exhausted beyond measure.

She didn't even have time to see Seraphina or ask about the fortress's status. She went straight to the Mana Pool to recover.

Fortunately, although the demons had lost the original Demon God's Pool, they now had numerous artificial Mana Pools formed by liquefying pure mana stones. Thanks to the extraction methods Clyris had brought back from Seres, the demons had a lower-tier substitute. While it couldn't regenerate severed limbs or heal as instantly as the original divine water, it served as an effective high-grade healing potion.

For non-critical injuries, these pools were nearly as effective as the real thing.

"Suppressing seven Ninth-Rankers throughout the entire battle... was still a bit taxing for me..."

Clyris soaked in the pool, feeling her body relax and refill with energy. She sighed with emotion. "Although I haven't completed my Domain, I am still getting stronger!"

Charlo: "It’s absurd! Before, fighting seven Ninth-Rankers would have cost you some blood. Now, it's just mana exhaustion?! You were already at the Ninth-Rank Limit! How can you keep getting stronger? Is there some hidden tier like 'Semi-Saint' or 'Quasi-Saint'?"

Charlo's voice teased her through the mental link.

Clyris: "Haha! Impossible!" Clyris chuckled softly. "There is no such classification! The Domain is the fundamental difference between a Saint and a Ninth-Rank. You either have it, or you don't! There is no 'half-finished' Domain. The only difference lies in the control and development after achieving Sainthood!"

Charlo: "Then the fact that you are still strengthening without ascending... does this mean the 'Ninth-Rank Limit' as we know it isn't actually the ceiling? That one can reach even higher?"

Clyris: "I don't think so..."

Clyris shook her head in the water. Ripples spread outward, her black hair floating on the surface. Her twin peaks breached the water line, swaying gently with the waves.

Clyris: "I might be a special case! Think about it: My body was first reshaped by Phyllis's power, then repaired by the Lord of Light's power, and finally modified by the Demon God..."

Clyris: "To be honest... I don't even know what I am anymore..."

She smiled bitterly, her eyes losing focus for a moment. "So, my strength is likely an anomaly."

Charlo: "The Lord of Light... Have you tried asking Him about the situation?"

Clyris: "I tried! But there was absolutely no response! Honestly... He said to just call His name if I needed anything. Was He lying?"

Clyris complained. The mention of this made her angry. He had promised help, but when she actually had questions, He was ghosting her.

Charlo: "Mm..."

Charlo fell silent. He knew nothing about gods and didn't know what to say.

Clyris: "Forget it, let's not talk about Him!"

Clyris dropped the subject. Discussing a god behind their back—especially complaining—was blasphemy.

Clyris: "By the way, my control over mana is now comparable to a Saint!"

Clyris raised her hand. Various elements gathered and danced around her slender, pale fingertips.

Clyris: "Thanks to that Diagram you gave me, plus my exploration of Phyllis's memories, I've acquired many Saint-level techniques. Although driving them with Authorities is strenuous, it's not impossible! Plus, I have three Authorities, making it easier than for an average Ninth-Ranker. That is the source of my confidence to crush them!"

Charlo: "Is that so... It's good that I could help."

Clyris: "Hey! Is that all you have to say? Just that?"

Clyris chuckled, clenching her delicate hand into a fist. "Right now, below the Saint Rank, there is nothing I cannot do!"

Charlo: "Uh... that's exactly what I'm thinking! Is there a problem? As a friend, I'm happy to see you advance on the supernatural path, and I'm happy I could help! I was actually worried you'd despise me for being too low-level to be useful!"

Clyris: "Ah! No!"

Clyris quickly wiped the smile off her face, panicking slightly. "I can't thank you enough! How could I despise you?! That's impossible! You have to believe me! That will never happen!"

Charlo: "Relax! I believe you!" Charlo comforted her. "I'm just a bit... melancholic. After all, you are so much higher than me now..."

Charlo: "When I was in the Mid-Ranks, I didn't feel it. But after advancing to High-Rank, I realized the gap between Seventh and Ninth is wider than the gap between Low and Mid!"

Clyris: "T-This... You are still young! Don't overthink it! You are already amazing!"

Clyris looked at his melancholy face on the screen and comforted him clumsily. "A Seventh-Rank under thirty... that was something I couldn't even dream of before! I..."

Charlo: "It's okay... Clyris!" Charlo shook his head, interrupting her. "I'm not that fragile. It's just that I want to do something, but I find even a Seventh-Rank is powerless to do it. So I feel a bit urgent..."

Clyris: "Did... something happen?"

Clyris asked cautiously, afraid of touching a sore spot. "If it's inconvenient to say, then don't."

Charlo: "Nothing I can't say! It's just that the Paper Currency matter leaked."

Charlo: "I really didn't expect the Landon Family's control over the Eastern Border to extend even into the Imperial Administration Hall! Even the Chief Justice is their man!"

The Empire had Administration Halls in all four borders, structurally identical to the Imperial Capital's, serving as administrative bodies directly under the Emperor. After all, the Emperor couldn't let the four Grand Dukes rule the borders like independent kingdoms.

But Charlo had underestimated the decline of Imperial power. Even one of the Chief Justices of the Eastern Administration Hall, a direct subordinate of the Emperor, was a Landon man!

Clyris: "Ah, this..."

Clyris was genuinely shocked. In Thebes, she had never heard of such a thing—an official in the Emperor's own institution loyal to a Grand Duke instead of the Emperor? And a leader at that?

Charlo: "Forget it. Let's not talk about that bad luck! Emperor Hook is truly senile. To be infiltrated to this extent... no wonder he's being held hostage by the Dukes!"

Charlo shook his head, ending the topic.

Charlo: "I'm hanging up. I have a meeting! Bye!"

Clyris: "Ah... Bye!"

Clyris watched reluctantly as Charlo went offline, waving goodbye to the empty screen.

_____________

After ending the communication, the Mana Pool returned to silence. Bored, Clyris chose to empty her mind, her gaze growing vacant.

Through Elemental Sight, mana naturally flows from high concentration to low concentration. But here, low concentration flowed toward high concentration—because the Mana Gathering Array inscribed below was functioning, pulling in the surrounding mana!

But the most important components were the layer of pure mana stones, the Channeling Array, the Condensation Array, and the Hydro-Array.

The stones provided the raw power. The Channeling Array drew it out. The Mana Gathering Array prevented dissipation. The Condensation and Hydro-Arrays ensured the mana existed in a high-energy liquid state rather than crystallizing back into stone.

This complex system compressed and refined the mana from the stones, making it incredibly efficient for absorption.

One could soak in it, or even drink it! This allowed for maximum absorption with minimal waste. For demons, most external injuries could be healed rapidly just by soaking.

SPLASH!

After a long time, Clyris finished her recovery. She stood up from the water.

Mana flowed over her body, weaving instantly into her heavy dark-gold armor.

"Finally recovered..."

Clyris whispered to herself, and the look in her eyes turned cold once more.

[Role: You are an expert literary translator and editor specializing in Chinese-to-English localization, specifically for the genres of "Kingdom Building," "Industrial Magic," and "Military Fantasy."

Objective: Translate the provided Chinese text into high-quality, immersive English prose. Your goal is not just literal translation, but narrative enhancement. The final output should read like a professionally published Western novel, not a machine translation.

Style & Tone Guidelines:

Enhance the Prose: Smooth out choppy sentences. Expand on descriptions to create better visualization (show, don't just tell). If the original text is dry, add atmospheric flair without altering the original meaning.

Narrative Flow over Stats: If the text contains lists of statistics, military organizations, or technical specs, do not leave them as dry bullet points unless necessary. Weave them into the narrative or dialogue to maintain immersion (e.g., instead of a list of ship specs, describe the character looking at the massive hull and noting its dimensions).

Emotional Resonance: Focus on the characters' internal monologues and emotional states (e.g., the despair of the demons, the ambition of Charlo). Make the dialogue sound natural and distinct for each character.

Military & Political Weight: Treat the military maneuvers and political machinations with seriousness. Use appropriate terminology (e.g., "General Staff," "Charge Formation," "Logistics").

Formatting Rules:

Character Names (e.g., Charlo, Clyris).

Place Names (e.g., Seres Territory, Talisk Fortress).

Key Terms/Spells/Abilities (e.g., Charge Formation, War Behemoth, Authority: Gravity).

Structure: Break up long walls of text into shorter, punchy paragraphs for better readability. Use Horizontal Rules (***) to separate scene changes.

Key Context (The Story So Far):

Protagonist: Charlo (Lord of Seres). He has a "System" and is industrializing a fantasy world using Earth knowledge.

Key Ally/Rival: Clyris (The Demon Lord/Queen). She also has a System and communicates with Charlo.

Setting: A war between the Alliance (Humans, Elves, Dwarves) and the Demons.

Technology: A mix of magic and WW2-era technology (tanks, planes, dreadnoughts).

Instructions for every response:

Read the Chinese text provided.

Translate and Enhance it according to the rules above.
