Volume 2 chapter 27

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Before the Wall of Holy Light, a Giant of Darkness walked slowly forward. Each step shook the mountains and cracked the earth.

"Hahahaha... No one can stop me now!"

When Clyris's consciousness fully awakened, the first thing she saw was Phyllis, controlling the giant, standing before the Wall and laughing maniacally.

The Wall of Holy Light, towering ten thousand meters high, only reached the Giant's chest. Phyllis looked down from her god-like vantage point at the sea of demons surging toward the barrier on the other side.

"It seems she hasn't realized I'm awake yet... Time to give her a surprise!"

Clyris watched Phyllis, who was completely oblivious to the intruder in her own mind. She snickered, gripping the Sword of Light.

She channeled the majority of the spiritual energy gifted by Phyx into the blade. The already glowing weapon became blinding, a condensed star of pure will.

"Hey! Eat this!!"

Seizing the moment, Clyris materialized instantly. She seized control of the spiritual space, freezing Phyllis in place for a fraction of a second, and thrust the sword forward!

"What?!"

Phyllis's eyes widened in shock. She hadn't expected this ambush. Before she could react, the blade pierced her chest!

"AAAAHHH!!"

The mental light exploded within her, illuminating her dark soul from the inside out and evaporating the surrounding darkness. In the physical world, the Giant suddenly froze.

"Damn you! You useless trash! How dare you?! How dare..."

Phyllis screamed, roaring in fury.

"Hmph! Surprise! There's more where that came from! Take this!!"

Clyris pressed her advantage. She slashed again and again, each strike shaving off a piece of Phyllis's soul.

"DAMN IT ALL!!!"

Phyllis manifested her Scythe of Darkness, blocking Clyris's blade and parrying it aside.

Recovering from the shock, Phyllis unleashed her terrifying aura. A crushing pressure descended like a collapsing sky, sweeping through the mental space with the force of a tsunami.

"Ding! Level 3 Threat Detected. Activating Mental Shield..."

"Activation Successful!"

Just as the crushing pressure was about to flatten Clyris, the System activated.

A mysterious force surged out, enveloping Clyris and isolating her from Phyllis's aura.

"System, you can block this pressure?"

Clyris asked internally while trading blows with Phyllis.

"Answer: This System protects the Host's mind from spiritual attacks to prevent the System's existence from being leaked. Beyond this, no substantial assistance will be provided."

"Is that so... well, that's enough!"

Clyris slashed down, breaking Phyllis's guard, and laughed freely.

Without the suppression of the aura, she easily split her focus to reshape the mental space.

The endless darkness shattered. The world changed as if creation itself was being reenacted. Darkness receded; the sky and earth separated.

Sunlight flooded in. Flowers bloomed. The sky turned a mirror-clear blue, and the earth became rolling green hills.

Ironwood Territory in Spring.

"This is..." Phyllis looked around in confusion. "How are you... unaffected?"

"Guess..." Clyris twirled her sword playfully and smiled.

Standing on the memory of Ironwood's soil made her heart sing. Indeed... after becoming Clyris, this was the only place that had ever brought her true happiness.

"You..." Phyllis saw her relaxed demeanor, and her face darkened. She gritted her teeth.

"You are nothing but a failure! A freak that is neither man nor woman! You have the face to show yourself?! DIE!!"

Phyllis roared, swinging her scythe in a lethal arc.

CLANG!

Clyris raised her sword to block, then tilted it, sliding the scythe to the side. She sidestepped the attack, switched her grip, and slashed upward, knocking Phyllis into the air.

"Hmph! At least I'm more successful than you! A Demon Lord who led nine peak Saint-level Grand Dukes and still got beaten by a Hero? I beat my Hero so bad he doesn't even dare to show his face!"

Clyris returned the mockery mercilessly.

"By the way, I am a genuine woman now. If I'm a freak, then what does that make you, who used my body for so long?"

"YOU..." Phyllis was apoplectic. She swung her scythe like a chaotic storm.

"Ooh, did I strike a nerve? Makes sense. If I reached the Saint Realm, I could sweep Rodinia alone! Unlike some Demon Lord who nearly ignited her Divine Fire, had nine Saint-level subordinates, and still got hunted down like a dog!"

"SHUT UP!!"

Phyllis screamed, abandoning defense to hack wildly at Clyris.

Clyris dodged and weaved through the dense attacks with difficulty. Although Phyllis was a mage—or rather, a High Demon naturally gifted in magic—her martial prowess was not weak.

Clang! Ping! Ding...

"What do you know?! The Hero you faced is a coward! A trash like you! Have you ever seen Ian?! Do you know what kind of monster that was?!"

Phyllis roared as she swung her scythe. "That was a monster like the Primordial! A monster that could cut down even the descending will of Father! If not for him... If not for him!!"

"I would have destroyed this world twenty thousand years ago!! What right does an ant like you have to speak to me?!"

"Heh! Aren't you the one who judges people by success or failure? Can't handle the truth? You had nine Grand Dukes and the Demon God's blessing, and you still lost. That's a fact! Seems like you're just incompetent!" Clyris continued to taunt while looking for an opening.

"SILENCE!!!"

Phyllis went berserk. Her terrifying aura exploded, ripping the ground up as if by an invisible hand and shredding it in mid-air.

But Clyris remained unaffected. Seizing the opening created by Phyllis's blind rage, she charged in and pierced Phyllis's chest.

Squelch—

She pulled the sword out and struck again instantly!

"Storm Nine-Slash!!"

Nine rapid strikes. Four severed limbs. Four split the torso. The final strike cleaved the head.

"Ugh..."

Shattered, Phyllis could not fight back. Her split head flew backward.

"You... and your lover... neither of you are affected?!"

Phyllis's blood-red eyes stared at Clyris, her gaze sharp as daggers.

"He entered, and you came out. He gave you something to immune you from my pressure!" Phyllis realized something and sneered. "So you're still the same! A useless waste who relies on the charity of others! What right do you have to lecture me?! TRASH!!"

"That's right. Thanks to him!"

Clyris smiled, unfazed. "But I will repay him. When he needs me, I will never refuse! I've been ready for that for a long time!"

Worst case scenario, I'll work overtime for him every day. Teaching during the day, testing runes, engraving arrays at night. As a Ninth-Rank, I can work 24/7 without eating or drinking. As long as I get two hours of rest, I can go on forever!

"Hah! Fancy words! He didn't show up, did he?! How will you compensate him? He's dead! He can't use your rotten meat anymore!"

Phyllis laughed cruelly. She misunderstood the situation, assuming Charlo had died in the mental intrusion.

But her words had no effect on Clyris. Clyris chased after her and split her open again.

"Ah... FATHER! SAVE ME!!"

Phyllis’s split head fused back together, and she screamed in desperation.

"Dream on! This is my mental space!" Clyris said triumphantly, raising her sword to finish it.

"Watch me end th—"

BOOM!!

Before she could finish, a pressure far more terrifying than Phyllis's descended. A will vast as the heavens crashed down.

"Tiny ant. You dare speak such arrogance!"

A voice like a celestial bell slammed onto Clyris's head, shaking her internal organs to the point of rupture.

"Father! Quick, kill her!!"

Phyllis was overjoyed and shouted immediately.

"Shut up! You cannot even handle a mortal! Phyllis, your regression over these twenty thousand years disappoints me greatly!"

The Demon God's cold voice echoed through the space, instantly turning Phyllis's face pale.

"Father... no, it's not like that, I... I just..." She trembled, stammering incoherently.

"Hmph... Forget it! Perhaps you are simply incomplete... I will give you one last chance! Do not disappoint me again!"

"Yes... Father!"

The Demon God's voice faded, and the crushing pressure lifted. When Clyris looked up, Phyllis's will was gone.

"She... was taken away by the Demon God?"

Clyris scanned the space. Apart from herself, there was no other will.

Simultaneously, with Phyllis gone, the Authority of Charm vanished. Clyris was left with three Authorities, and her connection to the Demon God was severed.

Outside.

The Giant standing before the Wall of Holy Light collapsed into smoke.

The core was revealed. The Demon Lord with black hair and red eyes slowly opened her eyes.
