Chapter 59: Counterattack
(Those who play dirty deserve what’s coming to them.)
“What?!”
Meisei’s small forward cried out in shock.
The very next second, he felt as if he’d been hit by a truck, his body sent flying.
Right after Miyamoto Tokima finished speaking, he attacked from the right side—but this drive was different from before.
Instead of slipping past, Miyamoto Tokima initiated direct body contact, smashing into Meisei’s small forward and knocking him aside.
With the paint completely open, Miyamoto Tokima gathered the ball and prepared to rise for a dunk.
The Meisei small forward, his face twisted in rage, scrambled back and hurled himself at Miyamoto Tokima, clinging onto him with all his weight.
Die!!!
Huh? What—no, no!
He thought he could drag Miyamoto Tokima down and ruin the play. But once he actually latched on, he realized something was wrong.
Miyamoto Tokima was barely affected.
The only difference was that the dunk turned into a layup.
Just when it seemed like that was it, Miyamoto Tokima suddenly lost his balance, his body tilting backward as he fell flat in midair.
And don’t forget—
Behind Miyamoto Tokima… was Meisei’s small forward.
So you like playing dirty? Then goodbye.
A faint curve lifted at Miyamoto Tokima’s lips. As his falling posture shifted from flat to sideways, his elbow snapped upward, aimed straight at the small forward’s face.
Thud!
“Aaah!!!”
The sound of bodies crashing to the floor rang out, followed by the small forward’s shrill scream.
“Tweet!!!”
Yamada immediately blew his whistle to stop the game.
Everyone rushed toward Miyamoto Tokima.
“Tokima! Are you okay?”
Daiki Aomine and the others hurried over.
Atsushi Murasakibara and Shogo Haizaki reached out and pulled Miyamoto Tokima up.
Miyamoto Tokima clasped their hands and smiled faintly.
“I’m fine. But the one underneath me… not so much.”
Aomine and the others looked over in confusion.
Meisei’s small forward was lying on the floor, clutching his face and screaming.
Blood poured steadily through his fingers as his cries echoed across the court.
“Aaah!!!”
Meisei’s players and coach rushed onto the court as well. The coach carefully pulled the small forward’s hands away to examine the injury.
The instant he saw it, his expression changed completely. He spun around and shouted at Miyamoto Tokima,
“Is that how you play basketball?!”
Seijuro Akashi rushed over. When he saw the injury, his pupils shrank sharply, shock flashing across his face.
The Teikō players followed his gaze, and their expressions stiffened one after another.
It was obvious why.
A deep gash had split open at the corner of Meisei’s small forward’s right eye, blood streaming nonstop. His entire face was drenched red, making him look like a living bloodstain.
Facing the coach’s accusation, Miyamoto Tokima shrugged indifferently, returning the words in the same tone the small forward had used earlier,
“Come on. He committed a malicious foul on me. I just lost my balance by accident. If he hadn’t fouled me, would he have gotten hurt? If you want to blame someone, blame him for fouling me in the first place.”
The Meisei coach pointed at him, shaking with anger.
“You… you… that’s sophistry!”
“I think you’re the one twisting things,” Daiki Aomine snapped. “We all saw it. He fouled Tokima on purpose. This is what he deserves.”
Seijuro Akashi nodded calmly.
“Aomine is right. He brought this on himself.”
Atsushi Murasakibara chimed in,
“Yeah. Akashi’s right.”
Shuzo Nijimura stepped forward.
“We haven’t even held you accountable yet, and you’re already accusing us?”
The Meisei coach jumped to his feet, pointing at the Teikō players.
“You people—!”
Before he could finish, Shogo Haizaki stepped in front of him, wearing a wicked grin.
“Hehehe… us? What’s the problem?”
The coach stiffened. Feeling the dangerous aura radiating from Haizaki, he instinctively backed away several steps.
He turned to look at his own players, only to see Makoto Hanamiya and Kentaro Seto standing far away, watching quietly with no intention of stepping in.
Furious, the coach shouted,
“Hanamiya, you all really—”
Before he could finish, Hanamiya waved his hand and smiled.
“Coach, we’ve always hated players who commit malicious fouls. Even if they’re our teammates.”
He then turned to the rest of Meisei’s players.
“Right?”
Kentaro Seto nodded immediately.
“Absolutely.”
The others hesitated—but the moment they met Hanamiya’s gaze, they quickly nodded.
“Yes! We hate players like that the most!”
The coach felt his heart seize. His hand trembled as he pointed at Hanamiya and the others, unable to finish a single sentence.
“You… you all…”
With no other choice, he turned to Yamada, pleading,
“Referee! Look at the Teikō players! Why are players like that still allowed on the court instead of being ejected?!”
Yamada nodded coldly.
“You’re right. I almost forgot.”
Then he raised the whistle to his lips.
The Meisei coach immediately assumed Miyamoto Tokima was about to be sent off. A smug look crept onto his face as he stared at Tokima.
But his smile vanished almost instantly.
Miyamoto Tokima wasn’t panicking at all—instead, he wore a strange, faint smile.
The fog of anger cleared from the coach’s mind in an instant. This incident was clearly caused by Meisei’s small forward committing a malicious foul. There was no way the referee would eject Miyamoto Tokima. Instead…
He turned toward Yamada in horror.
Yamada’s words confirmed it.
Meisei’s small forward was ejected.
The coach stood frozen in place, knowing this still wasn’t over.
At that moment, Okuyama Shuzan stepped forward, blew his whistle, and assessed a technical foul on the Meisei coach.
That was the final blow.
The coach stood there numbly, as if abandoned, feeling like the loneliest person on the entire court.
Medical staff quickly carried the injured small forward off for treatment, while the coach sank down onto the bench in a daze.
Makoto Hanamiya glanced at him and muttered under his breath,
“Idiot.”
Then he turned back toward Miyamoto Tokima, his expression dark.
Hanamiya had already realized something was very wrong.
Because in this game…
The referees seemed to have opened their eyes.
