Chapter 73: Miyamoto, Look at My New Move!
After changing into their uniforms, Miyamoto Tokima and the others prepared to enter the court.
The first team to take the floor was Shōei Middle School. Their ace was “Iron Heart,” Kiyoshi Teppei.
As the name suggests, the nickname “Iron Heart” came from Kiyoshi Teppei’s personal willpower. No matter the situation, he possessed an unyielding fighting spirit and an indomitable soul that protected the paint, earning him that title.
In the original story, even when facing a massive point deficit against the awakened Generation of Miracles, he still maintained unwavering resolve—something that left even the awakened Atsushi Murasakibara utterly baffled.
“Shōei Middle School is here. Do you think they can beat Teiko?”
“Probably not. Miyamoto Tokima is just too strong.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? With our Miyamoto God here, Shōei has no chance!”
The crowd buzzed with excitement, anticipation filling the arena.
“They’re here! Teiko Middle School is coming out!”
“It really feels different now. Teiko’s presence has completely changed.”
“Yeah, their aura is getting more and more terrifying.”
“Ahhh! Magic Cube! Magic Cube! Miyamoto God!”
Miyamoto Tokima glanced awkwardly at the girl shouting his name, silently begging in his heart.
‘Please… stop yelling already.’
Unaware of his inner turmoil, the girl felt it still wasn’t enough and pulled her friends along, shouting together:
“Magic Cube! Magic Cube! Magic Cube!”
After the girls started it, the entire arena somehow fell into perfect rhythm, chanting in unison:
“Magic Cube! Magic Cube! Magic Cube!”
Miyamoto Tokima dug his toes into the floor and lowered his head in despair, wishing he could crawl into a hole. After all this time, his reputation was completely ruined.
Satsuki Momoi walked beside him, laughing softly.
“Tokima, you’re really popular.”
Miyamoto Tokima pulled her closer and whispered pleadingly,
“Please don’t tease me.”
Satsuki Momoi nodded, covering her mouth as she giggled.
Daiki Aomine’s eyes lit up as he turned toward Miyamoto Tokima.
“Hey, Miyamoto, you’re seriously popular. The whole arena’s shouting ‘Magic Cube.’”
“I’m honestly jealous.”
Miyamoto Tokima clenched his fists tightly, doing his best to calm himself. Otherwise, he was afraid he might actually punch Daiki Aomine in the head.
The unified chanting startled the Shōei players as well.
Kiyoshi Teppei shifted his gaze toward Miyamoto Tokima and murmured,
“‘Magic Cube’? What kind of nickname is that?”
“Kiyoshi, time to warm up.”
Shōei’s power forward called out to him.
Kiyoshi Teppei nodded and joined his teammates in warming up.
Teiko Middle School also began their warm-up in an orderly manner.
Notably, Coach Shirogane did not allow Shintaro Midorima to join.
Despite Midorima repeatedly insisting that he had already recovered, Coach Shirogane firmly refused. Left with no choice, Shintaro Midorima sat dejectedly on the bench.
Miyamoto Tokima patted his shoulder to comfort him.
“Midorima, don’t overthink it. Coach is doing this for your own good. Don’t worry—you’ll definitely be on the court in the finals.”
Shintaro Midorima raised his head, thought for a moment, and then replied,
“I understand, Tokima.”
Only then did Miyamoto Tokima feel at ease and head out to warm up himself.
Daiki Aomine walked over with the basketball and said excitedly,
“Miyamoto, check out my new special move!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Daiki flicked his right hand and hurled the ball in an extremely awkward motion.
Miyamoto Tokima stared at the movement in shock, his heart skipping a beat.
‘No way… an unorthodox shot?’
Just as Miyamoto Tokima was stunned and Daiki Aomine was feeling smug, the ball unexpectedly turned into a… complete airball.
Well, not entirely. It flew with pinpoint accuracy and smashed straight into Shogo Haizaki, who was standing under the basket picking up balls.
Shogo Haizaki cried out in pain and spun around angrily.
“Which bastard ambushed me?!”
Daiki Aomine immediately turned around, tilted his head up at a forty-five-degree angle, and started whistling, as if that shot had nothing to do with him.
Miyamoto Tokima stood petrified for a moment before finally forcing out a sentence.
“So… your new special move… is an airball?”
Daiki Aomine scratched the back of his head and laughed awkwardly.
“Haha… just a little accident. A little unstable, that’s all.”
Shuzo Nijimura walked up from behind and smacked Daiki Aomine on the head.
Daiki Aomine yelped and clutched his head.
“Ow, ow, ow! Nijimura, what was that for?!”
Shuzo Nijimura clenched his fist and warned through gritted teeth,
“I don’t want to see you throwing the ball like that during the game.”
Daiki Aomine nodded pitifully.
“I got it, Senior.”
Shogo Haizaki had already figured out who the culprit was and stormed over.
“Aomine!”
Daiki Aomine raised his hands quickly.
“Haizaki, wait! Accident—just an accident!”
Shogo Haizaki kept advancing step by step.
Miyamoto Tokima stepped in and said,
“That’s enough. Hurry up and warm up—the game’s about to start.”
Shogo Haizaki stopped immediately, shot Daiki Aomine a vicious glare, and snorted.
“I’ll let you off this time.”
Daiki Aomine nodded apologetically. Thanks to Miyamoto Tokima, Haizaki’s relationship with the rest of Teiko wasn’t as bad as in the original story. Besides, Aomine really had been at fault this time, and Haizaki wasn’t truly angry—mostly just running his mouth.
Tetsuya Kuroko watched the whole scene with a faint smile, finding this kind of friendship surprisingly comforting.
Seijuro Akashi walked up beside him and said quietly,
“Warm up, Kuroko. We’ll need your strength later.”
“Okay, Akashi.”
Tetsuya Kuroko nodded and turned to take another shot.
The ball flew… and once again turned into a perfect airball, smashing directly into Atsushi Murasakibara’s head under the basket.
“Huh? Who threw the ball at me?”
Atsushi Murasakibara looked around blankly. He didn’t see the culprit—only Seijuro Akashi holding a basketball nearby.
“Akashi, did you see who threw it?”
Seijuro Akashi’s mouth twitched slightly as his gaze flicked toward Tetsuya Kuroko standing beside him.
‘Kuroko is completely ignored by Murasakibara…’
He shook his head calmly.
“I didn’t see anyone.”
Atsushi Murasakibara nodded slowly, let out an “Oh,” and continued warming up.
“Thank you, Akashi.”
Tetsuya Kuroko thanked him softly.
Seijuro Akashi smiled faintly.
“It’s fine. Even if Murasakibara found out, he wouldn’t say much to you.”
“Hurry up and warm up. The game is about to begin.”
“I understand, Akashi.”
