Chapter 9: The Impossible Made Possible
Chapter 9: The Impossible Made Possible
[Star-Eclipse Eye · Future Sight]
Ability: Allows 100% observation of one’s own and the target’s “energy flow,” enabling short-term foresight of the opponent’s next move during combat.
Future Sight—this was one of the fundamental abilities of the Heaven’s Eye Beast Star Core.
The name sounded intimidating, but in essence, it was nothing more than “outcome deduction.”
By observing the opponent’s star energy flow, one could predict their movement to a certain degree.
But his current opponent wasn’t just anyone—it was a Terravaran, a level two Starbeast with a stable energy level of over 3000.
For Tendou, fully predicting such a creature’s every action was simply impossible.
Fortunately, he didn’t need to predict everything.
He only needed a single, fleeting chance to strike.
—Boom.
As Tendou activated Future Sight, a peculiar star energy wave rippled outward from his body, spreading into the arena.
In his vision, the colossal body of the Terravaran turned translucent.
Countless star energy veins—some thick, some fine—branched out from its core crystal, weaving together to form the monstrous being.
The streams crossed, converged, and pulsed with terrifying rhythm.
Staring at these flows, Tendou’s mind flooded with information.
Lines of potential outcomes collided in his thoughts, forming a chaotic storm of possibilities.
Tick… Tick…
Even though it was just an initial calculation, the overwhelming disparity in raw power made the strain unbearable. Sweat rolled from his chin, dripping onto the ground.
Then—his eyes gleamed.
—I see it.
Almost at the same moment, the Terravaran closed the hundred-meter gap between them in a single bound.
Its vertical pupils glimmered with human-like disdain as it loomed over the boy.
Raising a claw lazily, it swiped down toward Tendou.
The motion seemed simple, almost casual… yet the sheer pressure behind it made the air itself tremble.
There was no doubt about the destructive power of this strike.
And no one in the audience doubted the outcome either.
No one thought the boy could possibly win.
But then—shocked gasps filled the stands.
Tendou had moved before the beast’s claws even began their arc.
As if he had already seen it coming.
Flash Step.
Channeling a surge of star energy into his legs, he ignited the power beneath his feet.
The explosive recoil blasted him sideways with blinding speed, carrying him just barely out of the strike zone.
—BOOM!
The beast’s claw slammed into the reinforced arena floor.
Screeching metal tore through the chamber as sparks erupted like fireworks. The impact carved three deep, jagged trenches into the steel plates.
When the dust settled, the lizard’s eyes narrowed.
Its gaze swept the empty ground where its prey should have been.
It hadn’t expected the boy to dodge.
But that was fine.
After all, it had never regarded him—or any of the so-called “Children of the Stars”—as real opponents.
To it, they were no more than fragile toys.
Without hesitation, the Terravaran lunged again.
Its follow-up attacks came faster, heavier, more vicious with every strike.
Tendou continued to dodge, his Future Sight allowing him to anticipate each motion by half a second.
But half a second against a monster of such speed and strength was far from enough.
Every evasion came by a razor’s edge.
Every breath felt stolen.
And no matter how desperately he tried, he couldn’t find a window to counterattack.
Watching from the sidelines, the other Children of the Stars turned pale.
The sight of Tendou—the strongest among them—being forced on the back foot with no chance to retaliate sent a chill through their hearts.
“This… this has to be a joke. Are we really expected to last three minutes against that thing?”
If he couldn’t fight back—what chance did they have?
The thought alone was enough to drain the color from their faces.
This wasn’t a test.
This wasn’t combat.
This was execution.
“...Sister.”
Chen Kong’s voice trembled as his eyes darted to his elder sister. His gaze was fixed on Tendou, who was desperately dodging inside the arena, his figure hounded relentlessly by the Terravaran.
It was clear—Chen Kong didn’t believe for a second that they, or anyone else here, stood a chance against such a beast.
Chen Xing, however, shot him a sharp glare and barked, “Shut up. Watch carefully.”
“...”
Unlike her younger brother, who was already panicking, Chen Xing’s expression remained calm and stern. Her crimson eyes locked firmly on Tendou, as though she were trying to discern something hidden in his every move.
At the same time, up in the VIP chamber, several of the guests were displaying similar focus.
They watched Tendou, cornered again and again, yet each time managing to twist fate and survive thanks to his Future Sight. Inevitably, murmurs of admiration slipped past their lips.
“To last this long against a level two Terravaran… truly, the boy lives up to his title as the strongest.”
“Indeed. Though if I’m not mistaken, what he’s doing right now is stalling—buying as much time as possible for that Heavenly Mechanisms Feline of his.”
“Exactly. Otherwise, he could’ve already pulled back, widened the distance, and let his two teammates help shoulder the pressure. That way, they might’ve prolonged the fight.”
“Yet instead, he chooses to provoke it head-on.”
“Clearly, he knows the that besides him, his teammates wouldn’t last even a single blow.”
“After all, even if this level two Starbeast is deliberately holding back… one casual strike from it is still something these half-grown children could never endure. Wouldn’t you agree?”
The canary-masked noblewoman swirled her champagne with a faint smile as she spoke.
Beside her, the man in the griffin mask tapped his golden cane against the floor, nodding.
“Quite right. The greatest strength of the Machina Type isn’t raw power—it’s information. Gathering it. Processing it. Turning it into opportunity.”
His gaze drifted down to the arena, where Caroline still stood stock-still at the edge, eyes glowing faintly, never once moving.
“She hasn’t budged since the beginning. Clearly, she’s collecting and analyzing the precious combat data Tendou is feeding her.”
“But…” He paused, his voice trailing with doubt.
“Oh? But what?” the canary-masked noblewoman asked, tilting her head.
The griffin-masked man leaned heavily on his cane, eyes narrowing.
“Any data, no matter how refined, serves but one purpose—to calculate, among countless impossibilities, a single fragile possibility.”
“Without that end goal, data is nothing but numbers. Cold numbers can never transform into a miracle.”
“So the question is: what possibility are they chasing? What is it they seek?”
“To merely delay for three minutes? …I doubt it.”
The canary-masked noblewoman froze mid-sip, her glass lowering as the implications began to sink in.
Meanwhile, the Doctor, hidden behind his silver mask, allowed himself a slow, knowing smile.
Of course they couldn’t guess. They didn’t know Tendou’s heart.
They couldn’t imagine that beneath that playful, frivolous exterior… lay a pride sharper than steel.
Stalling for time?
Impossible. Tendou would never allow himself to choose that.
Because doing so would mean admitting defeat in his heart before the battle was even decided.
And that was something Masamune Tendou would never accept.
Eliminate all impossibilities, and no matter how absurd the remaining choice may seem—what remains must be the truth.
Which meant only one conclusion:
Tendou wasn’t buying time.
He was waiting.
Waiting for a perfect chance—for a single, decisive counterattack.
Everyone else believed the Terravaran to be invincible.
But Tendou… intended to prove them wrong.
‘Come then, boy,’ the Doctor thought with a shiver of anticipation.
‘Show me. Show me the true extent of your limits.’
