Chapter 30

"……"

Kuzuya had become a broken man. His eyes were vacant, and he sat slumped on the ground. Being cut off by someone he cherished must have finally shattered him. Pitiful, really. He brought it on himself, of course, but still... pathetic. I felt no sympathy. Nor did I have any intention of abandoning my revenge.

"Now then, Yuka. Ready to move on?"

"Yes. I think it’s about time."

"Good. Then let’s finish this. Are you prepared?"

"All set."

"I see. Then, Yuka—bring this piece of trash to an end."

"Yes, sir!"

I turned my focus inward. I could feel a heat coursing through me, different from blood, circulating deep inside my body.

I looked within my heart. I thought I saw my partner, "Yuka," smiling.

That day, I learned the truth—that another "me," called Yuka, existed within me.

That day, I made a vow—to overcome my past together with Yuka.

I gathered the raging magic into a single point. Sparks cracked and snapped around me. At first, it was just invisible static, but little by little, it grew visible, the sounds growing louder. If only I could cast spells as effortlessly as Lord Albert... Maybe someday. I’d have to train for it.

I pointed my palm, charged to its limit with magic, straight at Kuzuya. This would end it.

"(Let's go, Yuka.)"

"(Right behind you, Yūya.)"

"『Fall!』"

The moment I willed it, a massive bolt of lightning crashed down on Kuzuya.

My vision was swallowed by blinding light. A deafening roar shook the air. I could feel the heat, so intense it seemed it would burn everything away. Instinctively, I shut my eyes.

When I opened them again, Kuzuya lay blackened and motionless on the ground. He didn’t so much as twitch; it was hard to tell if he was even still alive.

Lord Albert gave my shoulder a light, congratulatory tap.

"Well done. Your first real spell outside of training. No issues?"

"Nope! I feel great! Uh... is he dead?"

"He's still breathing, but barely. Leave him be; he’ll die soon enough. We'll handle the cleanup. You’re fine with that, Yuka?"

"Sorry to trouble you."

"Don’t worry about it. The priority is for you to see your revenge through and move past your past."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. Now then—"

Lord Albert turned his gaze to Kiyoharu .

"Mmph! Mmmph!"

Kiyoharu was bound tightly by El-kun’s earth and wood magic. Vines gagged his mouth, and he was blubbering through tear-filled eyes. Judging by the stain on his pants and the puddle at his feet, he had lost control of his bladder. His ridiculous state made it hard not to feel a dark satisfaction. So this is what they call 'serves you right,' huh? …God, I’m a nasty piece of work.

"Time for the main event. Yuka, just to confirm—you’re sure you’re fine with killing this one?"

Lord Albert asked me directly. It seemed he was concerned about how I’d feel killing a blood relative. He must be worried it would weigh on me later. He really is such a kind person.

"Yes. I have no doubts."

"Good. Then let’s end this."
