Chapter 33

[Bad News] About My Past Life Being a Yandere Beauty

This is no time for jokes. I need to do something about this situation. But what? For now, maybe I should hear her out.

"Um, Lumière-san, there’s something I want to ask—"

"Let us strike a bargain."

"A bargain? For what?"

"I shall not harm you or your sister, Yūya-san and Yuka-san. I will only eliminate those who seek to harm you or Lord Albert. I shall lend you my strength. In exchange... I ask that you allow me to take the lead in matters of romance with Lord Albert. Do not worry—I have no intention of usurping your body. You will remain its rightful owner."

So, in exchange for her power, she wants to get lovey-dovey with Lord Albert? There are benefits, but... why go this far?

"This seems advantageous for us, but I don’t see much benefit for you. Why would you go to such lengths?"

"...He was my 'light.' He saved me when I was alone. I have loved him ever since that day. Even after we became lovers, even after we wed, my feelings only grew stronger. On my deathbed, I swore it—I would find him again. ...I’ve longed to see him. And now, I wish to stay by his side for eternity."

"...Does Lord Albert remember you?"

"...I do not know. He may have forgotten. But if he has, then I shall forge a new bond with him. Fortunately, you are already his fiancée, are you not?"

"Yes. That’s right."

"Then we shall start from there. So that I may stand beside him once more... This time, never to part again."

I still don’t know the full story of Lord Albert’s past life or Lumière’s history. But her devotion was unmistakable. Honestly... I’m starting to think I wouldn’t mind letting her take over. I’m such a simpleton.

"Moreover, my power will be necessary to break Lord Albert’s curse. The one who cast it is likely a Mazoku like him—or something even greater."

"What do you mean?"

How could she know that? Was it Lumière’s power? As if reading my thoughts, she answered:

"The Mazoku now rule the Demon Realm in place of the extinct (Majin). Even with Lord Albert’s constitution—his Mana Circulation Disorder—he surpasses most demons. By nature, the Mazoku possess extreme resistance to magic; any harmful spell cast upon them is nullified. A curse should never have taken hold of him. And yet, it did. That means the caster must be his equal... or superior."

"I see... So the culprit might be stronger than Lord Albert?"

I’d wondered before who could’ve cursed him, but I had no answers. Yet her reasoning made sense. Though I’ve only known him a few days, it’s hard to imagine Lord Albert losing to any ordinary demon. He’s that formidable. If so, the curse’s caster must be something far beyond.

"...Understood. This might be beyond our abilities alone. We’d be grateful for your help."

"Then our bargain is sealed, yes? Leave it to me. I shall protect Lord Albert—and you both."

"...To be honest, I still don’t fully trust you, Lumière-san. If I judge this arrangement harmful, I’ll reconsider our deal."

"Of course. I shall strive to earn your trust. In return, you must uphold your end as well."

"Naturally. Yuka, are you fine with this?"

"If Yūya's okay with it, then so am I."

"Alright. Then, Lumière-san—pleasure doing business."

"The pleasure is mine."

And so, my past-life self—Lumière—joined our party.

"Now, let us begin by disposing of your uncle, Yūya-san. Witness my power firsthand."
