Chapter 70

"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!"

Ignis screams in his death throes as Lady Cecillia’s azure flames consume him. Every last remnant of his duplicates burns away in the inferno.

"Eeeek…"

"As terrifying as ever, that firepower…"

"To incinerate that many at once… That’s our See-chan for ya."

Each of us reacts in our own way. And the woman responsible?

"Oops, went a little overboard. Teehee!"

Not a shred of remorse—just a mischievous grin and a playful stuck-out tongue. But when you’re that gorgeous, even cheekiness looks regal.

"Anyway, he’s already done for. Let’s get out before this place collapses on us."

"Ah—right. Understood!"

"Ready, Se-chan?"

"Mhm! Plus, Yuka-chan and I have a girls’ talk waiting. Let’s hurry!"

And with that, we leave the church behind.

The Black Garden of the Supreme Demon Cult—Ignis Branch: Annihilated.

Branches remaining: Four. Headquarters: One. Total: Five.

As my body burns to ash, my sanity returns. The church will crumble soon, too. My hand twitches, reaching unconsciously toward their retreating backs—not a single glance spared my way. Just like before. The searing heat, the pain—worse than last time.

Why was I so obsessed with her? Because she humiliated me? Shredded my pride?

"Ah… No."

She was beautiful. Unlike anyone I’d ever seen. Maybe that drew me in. But more than that—

"I… admired her."

Yeah. That’s it. Her dignified bearing. Her fierce flames. The way she had someone she truly loved. I envied everything about her. Because Ignis had nothing. Because I knew I’d been fooling myself, filling a hollow heart. I denied it. Told myself I wasn’t wrong.

"I knew… none of this meant anything."

I was an orphan. Never even knew my parents. By the time I could think, I was in a dump—a place where all the filth of the demon realm gathered. To survive, I had to take. The corpses littering the streets were tomorrow’s version of me. Fear drove me. I stole, called it mine, lied to myself that this was happiness. Struggled to fill the void. And in the end, all that scrambling birthed a monster.

"Ah… I was jealous. Envious."

Happy people pissed me off. I wanted to break them. So I did. Luckily—or unluckily—I had the power for it.

"Heh… Too late now. After ruining so many lives… What’s with this pathetic crap…?"

A self-mocking laugh. If hell exists, I’ll get the worst punishment. I’ve earned it.

"What… should I’ve done instead?"

Pointless question. No answer, no matter how many times I ask. My damn durable body’s taking too long to burn—just prolonging the agony.

"Eh, whatever. Cecillia Rose Belkland. Minato Raika Belkland. Albert Lond Belkland. And Albert’s lackey, Yuka."

"I’ll be watching you from hell. Struggle all you want. See ya."

Not like you stand a chance against him anyway—Cloud Rogue Foster.
