Prologue: Once Upon a Time, There Was a Magical Girl—So Let’s Sum It Up
An utterly ordinary town in Japan, on the planet called Earth. The city of Sazanami.
Among the people of this town, there was one name everyone knew.
That name was the Silver Magical Girl, Silver Witch Luna.
Flowing silver hair, clear azure eyes.
Her porcelain-like skin was wrapped in a blue costume resembling a dress—she was a champion of justice.
Her activities began about a year and a half ago.
It was the same day invaders from another world appeared.
"Legion Brigade." That was all they called themselves before beginning their assault.
Their goal? The emotional energy of Earth’s people.
In other words, they came to plunder.
Using every trick in the book, these invaders gathered emotional energy.
And standing in their way was the magical girl who rushed to foil their schemes.
She was loved and respected by everyone in town, young and old alike.
And so, for a year,
Luna and the Legion Brigade clashed in fierce battles.
Roughly once a week, their battles unfolded—until they came to an abrupt end.
That day was December 24th.
Coincidentally, the very day Earth called Christmas Eve.
Though struck by countless mishaps, she defeated the Legion Brigade.
And then, for three months,
She returned to a peaceful daily life, living as just another girl.
And so, all was well—
…Or at least, that’s how it should have been.
But fate had other plans.
Because Luna wasn’t a "she."
He was a "he."
His true identity? Hidaka Youta.
An utterly ordinary boy attending Konami High School.
If you had to name his most distinguishing traits, it’d be his androgynous face (unusual for a male high schooler) and the fact that he was ridiculously kind-hearted.
He wasn’t even physically strong—I never understood why he was chosen to be the Silver Witch.
Youta just happened to be there the day the Legion Brigade attacked.
Inside a collapsing department store, his natural kindness drove him to save others—even at the cost of his own life.
For the sake of strangers, he threw himself into danger.
And because of that, the holy beast pursuing the Legion Brigade took notice of him and bestowed him with magical power.
Bad luck really does come in chains.
And so, the boy who narrowly survived… became a "she."
Normally, he was Youta.
But in battle, he was Luna.
Thus began a strange double life.
A lonely battle known to no one—not even his family.
…You might be wondering how I know all this.
Simple. He told me himself.
My name is Kurosaki Haruto.
Though I’ve known Youta for less than a year, he—no, she—calls me her best friend.
As for how the battle ended…
The boy named Youta vanished from this world.
To put it simply, it was the result of the Legion Brigade’s last-ditch effort.
After fighting—after struggling so hard—the fate dealt to him was cruel.
It’s a miserable story, really. A tale that began with misfortune ended in misfortune.
And so, I decided to rewrite that story by force.
Of course, what’s done can’t be undone.
But even so, I believe I can bring Youta back.
Maybe this is my way of atoning.
